Hey what have you got against Tendulkar? I have been reading your posts and most are pretty venomous. Whatever anybody says, Tendulkar is a great and a model cricketer. Anyone who knows something about cricket will agree. So what does that make you?
I feel both were the best. but as per record Gaveskar had average is 80 runs whereas boycott had 75 runs in a match. firstly, making a run in the older age is difficult. secondly No body is sure whether Mr. Boycott make 2000 runs in 17 more matches i.e each inning 60 runs. Thus leave it no need to compare. Everyone know your value.
Its not a joke to survive against class bowlers like Malcom Marshall, Micheal Holding, Andy Roberts, Imran Khan and many class bowlers in the list. And then there is the fact of playing long innings too.

Ponting is lucky that there are very few bowlers of real pace and that there are very few quality spinners. These two are his weakness. Ponting is very good, but it is not right to call him the best.

Gavaskar and Border were better than Boycott. Boycott was a very slow batsman. But Boycott played more against pace batteries of Australia, West Indies and scored runn on foreign soil. Gavaskar made most of his runs on home soil. Also, he had the opportunity to play against B teams of West Indies and Australia during 1977-80 (Kerry Packer series too.
Boycott matches Gavaskar selfishness. Both were equally selfish players, playing for personal landmarks. Both were completely outdone later by an Indian player - Ravi Shastri.

And later by Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly, the selfishest of the selfish.

Just by wearing boxers helmet which was useless.Nowdays players like tendulkar wears each & every guard even while facing spinners.

Yes that was a horrible innings. But Gavaskar played in a period when 1 day cricket was not given high importance. Anyway before finishing his career, he scored a 100 in 88 balls in an ODI.

LOL....Actually true gavaskar and tendulkar have only individual records to show, they never won us any matches.

Go look up the statistics. Also look at the team composition. Individuals can come up with great performances;success comes with only team effort. So think before saying anything.

Can u score 100 in test match out of 94 balls against likes of marshal, holding, roberts etc
Re: Re: Boycott answer me
by ASHISH KUMAR on Jul 28, 2009 11:26 PM
That can be beaten only by great dhobi that also in T-20, the way he played last w cup just for his survival & not for team
Re: Boycott answer me
by S Shrikanth on Jul 28, 2009 03:29 PM
Thats Gavaskar's record in 1975 World cup. He scored 36 n.o. and played all 60 overs against England. India lost miserably, but Gavaskar got another record.
Re: Boycott answer me
by Michael on Jul 28, 2009 03:21 PM
This is equivalent to scoring 12 runs in T20.... opening the batting and staying till end of 20 overs.

Not half as much as you are a nonsense here on the Rediff boards. You should just do whatever else your duties are apart from talking nonsense here, unless that's your only occupation.Dont insult the greats of the game,Clone boy.
Re: both were only test level
by Michael on Jul 28, 2009 03:19 PM
Boycott was a better one-day player. He scored in faster rate. Gavaskar never learnt one-day game playing. Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri were the shame for the team, both playing due to recommendations from the bombay cricket association.
Re: Re: both were only test level

India won Bensen & hedges ODI Wcup in Australia 1985 when Gavaskar was captain & Ravi sshatri was Man of the series. Michael correct ur cricketing knowledge. Only in early days, gavaskar was not good with ODI. later he adopted & even scored century against NZL in reliance worldcup 1987. Shastri was always a good allrounder in ODI much better than these new useless players .
Re: Re: both were only test level
by Balaji Krishnamurthy on Jul 29, 2009 07:21 AM
Look, both Gavaskar and Boycott were not very outstanding ODI players. But ODI's were not that prominent then. And by the way, they are two of the shrewdest brains in cricket, so both know what they were talking about. And finally about Gavaskar and Shastri playing only because of recommendation, you are forgiven because you don't know what nonsense you are talking
