Former Pakistan captain and batting legend Hanif Mohammad has termed Sachin Tendulkar as the "cricketing jewel of subcontinent" and said the 36-year-old right-hander was destined to break many more records in the coming years.
Hanif said he ranked India's Lala Amarnath and Sachin Tendulkar, West Indian Sir Garry Sobers and Brian Lara as some of the best players of the last century.
"His (Tendulkar's) hunger and passion as a batsman and for the game is amazing. I still make it a point to sit down and watch him bat. He is a cricketing jewel of the subcontinent," he said.
The former wicket-keeper batsman also rated India as his favourite opponent.
"Playing against India was always the best moments of my career and some of my best innings came against them," Hanif said, on the occasion of his 75th birthday today. Hanif, who played 55 Tests and 238 first class matches in a glittering career where he earned the sobriquet of "Little Master" for the longest innings in Test history - his 970-minute 337 against West Indies in Bridgetown in 1957-58, said he was delighted to be a part of Pakistan's cricketing history.
"It has been a wonderful career and great life. I am thankful to almighty Allah for celebrating my 75th birthday," he said.
Asked about Pakistan's chances in the upcoming Test series against Australia, Hanif said, "We have a very strong bowling line up which is capable of bowling out Australia twice in a match."

Hanif Mohammad wants IPL contract, this is all maskaa_baji !!
Sachin should have taken the batting powerplay when he came on strike to Suraj Randiv with just 10 runs reqd to win & HIM NEEDING 9 RUNS FOR HIS CENTURY. He would have easily got his century.

maybe he didn't need his century as much as u people did? why cry over split milk yaar? game is over and india won...enjoy and go to sleep.
kartik was in hurry to finish the game.. Maybe he was under pressure... pressure to go to the loo..otherwise would he have managed to hit a 6?.. has he every hit a 4 in other circumstances?

Why he got out in 2003 World Cup final where as Ricky Ponting performed in every finals scoring beyond 150 against India twice. Sachin is no doubt a great batsman but mentally weak not as tough as Ponting and that is what gives Ponting and edge above Sachin as he is able to win matches. Can you tell me why in Sydney test when he was the last batsman aside Ishant Sharma gave him the strike and did not take it as a regular so called batsman very simple only to remain not out in that innings.

Define SELFISH. While he could have easily got the ton, he did not get it and let Dinesh Karthik go for the final runs inspite of team India having several balls to spare. I guess you can never satisfy some people
As a batsman itself,Karthik is better than both Kohli & Jadeja. He has this fluency about the way he bats. Its just unfortunate that he has to compete with a champion cricketer like dhoni for his spot.... ....Maybe selectors should give him a chance as a batsman alone
why do people criticise dhoni? just bcoz he comes from a small town and has become succesful in a short span of time? stop being jealous of him and take him as an inspiration.

so, how can one expect a genuine appreciation from you, if you go blind on things you don't want to like.

Have watched it and he is the gutsiest player in this team. Yes he has seriously screwed up the T20 tema and I hate to see him in T20 but he is must in ODI and Test..
Who cares how stylist he is as long as he adds value to the team cause

jealous of a mediocre batsman who is yet to perform against good quality pace attacks like south africa and australia outside the subcontinent? do u follow cricket or gulli danda?

Because they have this fiction that a) some of their favorite batsmen was pushed out of the team by dhoni b) cant see the value of a finisher and persistence compared to style c) maybe dont like a smalltown chap. Who knows. Their wiered logic only they know. We have a plyer who has for the first time showed what consistency is and playing responsibily is. Bur rather than appreciate his abilities, they bad mouth because of some wierd hate they have.

exactly...it was just one of those tricky situations...if anyone had to be blamed it is Sangakara...what he achieved by denying Sachin a century God alone knows....but Sachin himself is happy...he is on his way to becoming Man of the series...2 more games to go and he can hit another century...amazing the hunger that Sachin shows for runs at this age.

Sachin has acquired a lot of maturity over last 2-3 years . He now stands when it matters

Earlier Sachin used to play the role that Sehwag is playing now. But, unlike now, there were no reliable batsmen in the middle who could finish the game by scoring the remaining runs.
Sachin is the most complete batsman ever played the game---thus considered the greatest batsman.
Dhoni is a champion cricketer...Some ppl hate him thats another issue...he might not be the most attractive to watch but he is mighty effective...he has proved to be worthy successor to ganguly...as far as karthik goes,i think he is a really fine player, just a little hyperactive i think, nerves maybe...but he is a good player too.

lots of such losers. They just love to hate. Karthik is a good player and hope he gets more chances to play.
