India should have a one more fast bowler like Nehra, that is Irfan Patan, he is good at bowling as well as batting like Praveen kumar.Though Zaheer Khan is a good bowler he is very very expensive. Yuvraj Singh should be there for the remaining three one day matches. Instead of Jadeja Ohja should be given a chance and also Sudeep Tyagi should be tried out. India should improve their bowling and fielding.

Irfan may nt b the best but seeing the current form of nehra, team should replace NEHRA with Irfan Pathan. Team shud also replace jadeja with ojha.
In the current ranji season, Irfan pathan has scored 397 runs in 5 ranji matches and his batting average is almost 50. he also got lot of success as a bowler for his ranji team. in the 5 ranji matches he has played so far in 2009, he got 22 wickets. As a all-rounder, he is much better than jadeja. He is a better batsman than jadeja. He is also capable of putting pressure back on the opposition team through his hard-hitting batting. His place in playing 11 allow the team to play with 2 specialist spiners, Ojha & Bhajji. Team mgnt can include him as a replacement for Out of form NEHRA.
Nehra normaly bowls at an economic rate of around 6, he leaks 8 to 10 runs through his fielding in each and every match. he drop catches & never TRIED to charge the opposition batsman by picking the ball quickly & throw it back to striker or nonstriker end. Rather than going to pick the ball quickly, he wait the ball to come to him.
Jadeja may be economic bowler but he lack the ability of taking wickets. his bowling average is 71. In 11 ODIs he has played he took only 5 wickets (economy rate 5.47). A bowler who gives 58 runs in 10 overs and take a wicket is much better than the bowler giving 50 runs without taking any wicket. OVERALL, IRFAN is a much BETTER BATSMAN than poor JADEJA.
BOTTOM line Jadeja & nehra shud b replaced by Irfan & Ojha.

Instead of banning the captain for matches they should cut down the no of runs scored by the team which bowled slow. This will have real impact on the result of the match. Banning for some number of matches will be like a very welcome rest in this packed schedule for the captain. Modify the rule to reduce the no. of runs scored by the team bowled slow lets say 10 runs each over not bowled.

Most foolish assessment I have ever read. What is the purpose of these punishments? Slow over-rates are there nowadays in every series. Whether these punishments improved over-rate? If the real purpose is get the overs bowled in stipulated time then this is most wise decision as none of the captains will risk the result of the match.

most foolish suggestion as the other reader said. will they stop the game in between and say, your team lost because we reduced these many runs?

I dont think you have analytical ability to assess the situation. Most foolish assessment I have ever read. What is the purpose of these punishments? Bharani:
Great point. So you mean to say that if the Captain decides not to bowl any overs at all and just sit still on the ground, then the opposing team should NOT be declared as the winner? :)
I think the best captain and vice captain pair were Ganguly and Dravid, though many might not agree with it.They had good rappo while they were doing the job.The vice captain was supporting his captain and was giving his suggestions too. I don't see such communication between the captain and vice captain.I think you can say that due to better communication between captain and vice captain, India were able to reach the finals in 2003 world cup.

india reached final of 2003 due to every one knows who and then captain and vice captain made sure india could not win the final by their genious strategy of inviting aussie to bat first and score like they were playing against a club team...
I think instead of blaming ICC Indian players should be blamed for Dhoni's ban.You had players setting their own field(Tendulkar setting the field), bowlers setting their own field(Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan) setting the fields,You had players taking mud out of their boot,Players chatting on the fence and many more.Captain and Vice Captain were made to look like jokers there.I think Dhoni needs to be strict with the team.Captain is the boss.
this is nothing but another instance of a sub continent team player getting penalised when another captain has the habit of doing what msd in almost every match.you can very well guess who is the captain.dhoni might have used more time.but if i am right i think 1st time he is warned and if the same happens again then this harsh penalty comes in to play.can anyone enlighten as to whether captains of australia or england or rsa have been given this harsh punishment?here it looks as though jeff crowe was waiting to punish msd.technically he may be correct but is it followed with out bias?i am not sure going by what is happening in australia now.i am firm in my opinion that asian countries are targetted by match refrees more and if one goes thro history there is plenty of evidence.not fair punishment is what i feel.bcci i am sure will do nothing as usual.
it is really a big blow for the indians to play without dhoni as he is their middle order mainstay for quite some time. but i still think that india has the capablity to trounce lanka any day. don't you think formula is simple, get DILSHAN and SANGAKKARA early and the match will be half over. even though i know that it is better said than done. also. i think we shoild really drop ashish nehra. he looks totally unfit to play at this level. playing ishant will serve india better. and also i think that a big hundred from sachin is round the corner as he is in a great nick in recent matches. so better luck in cuttack. i will be really happy to get some feedbacks on this friends.
Re: india can do well without dhoni
by gaurav manchanda on Dec 19, 2009 07:29 PM
well said Mr. souvik chatterjee. Lanka's batting totally depends on Dilshan and Sanga.
Selecting ishant is very good decision (seeing the current form of world's laziest fielder, unfit bowler ASHISH NEHRA). Ishant has caused lot of trouble to DILSHAN in the 1st T20. he didnt allow dilshan to play freely in his first 3 overs. he bowled stump to stump and gave away just 5 runs in his first 3 overs.
in the 2nd T20, he also bowled at middle stump line & got his wicket very early.
Ishant shud play in the next ODI. If ur main bowler is going for 75 runs in 10 overs without taking any wicket then it will be better to try some other bowler. replace nehra with ISHANT.

u need a medical advice. BCCI has already said the action is OK. After match fine there is clause of match ban for captain.
