Agarkar alert
by kgc on Dec 09, 2009 10:38 PM  | Hide replies

Maybe some relative of him has been pushing for him as if Indian team selectors make their choices after reading rediff boards :)

But I must admit Agarkar was a great entertainer, I still remember him getting out at Zero again and again and watching his sorry face walking with a duck hahahaha
Agreed he could swing the ball and ocassionally take wickets but most of the times batsmen used to hit him out of the ground hehehe
I see no reason why should anyone be even thinking of bringing a failed 32 year old medium pace bowler in Indian squad?

Really? Did he win ONE match for India? I dont know about that match but even if it was him solely or majorly responsible for the win, that is a miniscule contribution in terms of his entire career and 400 chances that he was given and also count the loses India had becuase of his Ducks :D AND getting hit for 25 runs in hundereds of overs.

u don't know anything about real cricket...all u know is watch 20-20s like teenage girls and think u are watching real cricket.

if u knew anything abt cricket, u will never put down a bowler who has 291 ODI wickets at a strike rate close to that of Mcgrath.

that ONE match was a historic win for India in Australia in a test match after 25 years...youngistan like u with no knowledge of test cricket will never realize the importance of that win.

This is cricket not an international war that ONE historic win is all you need to change the history of the world!
You need to perform consistently and by that I mean not getting out at zero consistently hehehehhe

Reasons for Today's Loss:
by rahul bajaaj on Dec 09, 2009 10:32 PM  | Hide replies

1. Srilanka player better cricket.(Sangakarra-Batting, Jayasurya-Bowling).
2.India's bowling was bad.
3.India's fielding/field placements was worse.
4.Dhoni coming in at No-3 is/was will always be a mistake either in 20-20 or ODI's.
5. Absence of quality bowlers like Zaheeer (Dinda), Praveen kumar (Rohit sharma),Ravindra Jadeja (Yusuf Pathan).
6.If yusuf pathan is in the side, by not promoting him & Raina up the order instead of Dhoni/Rohit Sharma.

Finally, missing 4 easy catches, easy runouts & allowing 10-15 runs by misfielding, chasing a huge score of 215 cost us the match.

But, we can definitely win the next match, if half the above deficiencies are rectified.

Test hype evaporated....
by netpal buddy on Dec 09, 2009 10:22 PM  | Hide replies

Felt bad for losing by mere 29 runs...top order collapse is common for India for first few matches in any format of the game. Indians always seem to need a few matches to settle before they start blasting away, but by that time, things would have already been decided. This happened in the first test also...India trailed Lanka by 333 runs and they managed to draw the test. And they bounced back in the remaining tests. It happened in the last T20 world cup also. They don't come into 'heats' for teh first time around, it seems.

Irfan the biggest match winner in 20-20
by sajan on Dec 09, 2009 10:15 PM  | Hide replies

he was the reason for winning the world cup final.
He single handly won match against Srilanka..scored 34**
he actually won us 20-20 in Newzeland..as my frnd forrest gump had not seen that match

he took two wicket in two balls one of Elliot and Oram..
and scored a brezy 21 run...to get to a good total..
last ball becoz rohit dropped the catch we lost the match..
in the semifinal against australia he took three wickets...
he was the one of the bowlers who took hatrick in test matches...
i think he proved more than agarkar as a potential match winner..

Name any oneday where agarkar won the match with bat or bowl..i guess five or six in 188 matches..

i m not against agarkar but he never showed his potentials..

irfan definitely deserve a place in ODIs & T20s. As a batsman, he is much better than Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja.

in ODIs Ishant, Munaf, RP generally bowls with an economy rate of more than 5.8. Irfan also gave same amount of runs (sometimes less than that). He is brilliant fielder.

The best thing about Irfan Pathan is that he can bat at any number & he know how to approach or build his inning. he can take singles, 2s, fours and sixes. he is capable of scoring quick runs.
At number 3, he batted for 18 times with an acceptable average of 29 and strike rate of 85.
Whenever he has been promoted at number 3 in IPL matches his batting average is 25.

sehwag is a lottery batsman
by Forrest Gump on Dec 09, 2009 10:12 PM  | Hide replies

never outsmarts his opposite team...look at the way sangakkara changed the field and asked bowler to bowl round the wicket to get him out today...this is what differentiates sehwag from Sachin...Sachin can outwit his opposite team...thats why he has such a good record against Australia...with sehwag it is just hit and miss cricket...he can never be of same stature as Sachin.

Sehwag - Ultimate Match winner (never plays for himself)
Dravid - Ultimate match drawer (always plays to consolidate his position in the team
Sachin - Ultimate match loser (always playes for records / centuries, gives a damn about the team )

Avishek, I lol @ your comment. Sehwag is a wondeful player to have in the team. When he plays well India does well, but we all know he's not the most reliable batsman in the team. I'm yet to see him play well against the likes of Dale Steyn in pitches that favour fast bowlers. Sachin and Dravid are proven champions in all conditions against all kinds of bowling attack.

Yeah true .. flatter tracks and lack of quality bowlers and better bats have helped. He cannot be treated on the lines of Sachin,Dravid and LAxman .But you got to admire his hand eye cordination ..

Well, Sehwag is a more entertaining player than even Sachin. But yes Sachin is a greater player. But why compare them? is it because of your insecurity that Sehwa, Dravid and Gambhir played extremely well in the test series whereas Sachin didn't? Sachin is one of the best things to ever happen to cricket. But you don't need to over-praise him.

ur an absolute dumb0...Sachin saved the first test against Sri Lanka in Ahmedabad which kept India from losing morale in the series...he did not do badly in the remaining two tests...Sachin was MOM in the only test match that we won in NZ and won the test series there...Sachin also made 71 in the perth test that India won...he chased a score of 387 too against England...its people like u with no knowledge of test cricket that u try to put down Sachin...have u even watched Sachin at age of 16 against bowlers like Wasim and Waqar..something that your sehwag never had to do?

FG, you're too Sachin centred to talk about cricket. You like Sachin more than cricket. In the first test Dravid was the main player who saved the match. Dhoni, Yuvraj, Gambhir and later Sachin also contributed. Sachin batted very well in NZ for his MOM award. In Perth Dravid again scored more runs 93! Sachin again played well against England last year but Sehwag was the main batsman for India and got his MOM. Sachin is fantastic but some over obsessed fans suck!

anybody can play like sewang. who is no bothered to hit when you are always in the team whether you score or not and hence sehwang is still in the team. Match is played not only for entertaning but also for winning. i dont agree if any one says sachin is only playing for recrods. it is true that evry one is cautious at reaching century or half century including sehwang. if he is not playing for records why he continued batting with Dravid a few years ago against pakistan in psite of rain. They wanted to break a pakistan batting partnership record. Play was called off when sehwang was out. p4
