India needed a sheet anchor and Dravid did this role entire career. His average was 39 with strike rate 70 in this role. Post Dravid era (since 1998) Tendulkar has taken this role and he has done this role much better than Dravid with average 48 and strike rate 85 in this role. Besides Tendulkar faces the new ball too i.e. provides sheet anchor for opener too. This is the specific reason that during post Dravid era India’s average score per ODI innings and India’s success rate has risen and Tendulkar’s average has risen from 42 to 48 (whereas his strike rate has come down by just 1 point from 86 to 85) and also India has won WC………Indian team who do not have good containing bowlers cannot afford slow scorers in side. Good bowling sides like SA AUS can afford such player as Dravid. Like AUS had Beven who won many (180 – 250 score) matches SA has Kallis. When you always have to score over 300 and chase down 300 a batsman with 70 strike rate is a big liability the longer he stays the more pressure he puts on batsman at other end. Besides Dravid has never been able to keep up with the required rate for 300 run matches. Which means you are merely playing to reduce margin of opposition’s victory which is no point of playing Even the last
Why do we forget that this man has scored over 10,000 runs in ODI's??. It is time we give Dravid his due credit as one of the greats. One-day cricket is not about hitting out and there is a requirement for a Anchor around which the others can play freely. The recent Final in Sri-Lanka is a exmple, where due to Dravid's presence Tendulkar could play his natural game. He should definitely be included in scheme of things for 2011 World Cup. And we have seen how the youngster's have fared against genuine pace bowling!!!
Are internation cricket matches played as a practice or selection match for world cup. Are all team selections made with World Cup as the goal. Isn't there a 'thing' called international cricket match?

u man 2 say drop sachin and bring vengsarkar, wow what an idea sirji?
Dravid has versatality and coolness in his batting style which is next to none. His adaptability to any kind of pitch is unquestionable. His return to one day side was long awaited and purely on merits, whatever are the thoughts expressed by his critics. All the very best to him for a successful stint in one dayers again. I am sure he will be proving himself in Sri Lanka itself.
I have been watching this discussion board. Entire cricket community have said what is done ie selection of Dravid is right choice. Whether it is north-south-east - west 99.99% have voted as right move. Offcourse there are few who were against which is always there. SO NOW IT SHOWS THAT BCCI and SRIKANTH HAVE DONE THEIR HOME WORK AND RIGHT DECISION. The selectors also should watch in SA that next who have negative attitude and play against the country should be axed next. GOOD JOB
