it is very disheartening to see
that rediff bloggers r insulting ganguly and sachin for supporting dravid
comments like" dravid won more matches than sachin in odis"
shows the ignorance of some rediff bloggers
and ganguly is like vellian of indian cricket for DRAVID FANS
i mean give give respect to other great players also

munaf should have been picked
by antonio valencia on Aug 18, 2009 01:18 PM

munaf should have been picked ahead of parveen kumar as he performed far better than parveen and ishant in IPL with 16 wickets from 11 matches at an average of 15 runs whereas parveen's bowling average in IPL was 30 runs. ishant, nehra and parveen kumar will flop in tri-series and Champions trophy but RP will perform. only one gujarati has been picked for tri-series and CT.

why r dravid fans insulting and bringing tendulkar and ganguly in disussion
the world knowa that
sachin fastest 10000 runs maker in odis
and ganguly fastest7000,8000,9000 runs maker in odis
dravid is not counted in brakets of sachin and sourav as far as ODI GREATNESS is concerned

i am not underming dravid
but its foolish from dravid fans to undermine other greats of indian cricket while supporting dravid
dont forget
dravid struggeled to be in indian odis side from 1996-2000
it was after ganguky bcame captain in 2000
dravid was a regular in odis

Sachin & Ganguly opened the innings for india in most of their matches so they scored more runs as compared to Dravid. During Ganguly's captainship Dravid played brilliantly so he was the regular player its not like Ganguly supported him(as in case of Dinesh Mongia..etc)

ODI greatness is not measured in terms of how many centuries scored. It depends on how consistently you played.
Either Ganguly or Sachin scored century because they had no worries of falling wicket on other side as Dravid was holding the fort always who is least bothered about his own strike rate. If you take 2003 world cup Sachin failed to score in some matches, but Dravid scored minimum 40 runs in all matches he played. In 2007 world cup only Dravid played no one else.

Which means Dravid is a Team player never thought of individual score. If he was keen abt his individual record he would have made big issue when ganguly declared the innigs when he was on 92*, everybody knows what thendulkar did when innigs was declare when he was at 194*

If you think he cant play fast look at his strike rate at score in IPL1 and IPL2 which is more than Sachin and Ganguly.

Dravid is the only player in Indian team who adapted his batting position as per the req. In Australia test series to accomodate Yuvraj Dravid was opening the innings why was afraid to open? That is the difference b/n playing for individual and playing for team.

Ganguly made him keeper to keep him in the team, so it is obvious that he thought high enough of Dravid to make this compromise. If this is not support, then what is? I am not running down Dravid, I think he is one of the all time greats of cricket, but keep this also in mind that he had a captain who was willing to back him

GUYS JUST THINK OF LAST WORLD CUP LOOSING TO BANGLA AND SRILANKA
by shobha on Aug 18, 2009 12:41 PM

Look at the proformance of each and judge including Sachin, Dhoni, Yuvraj, Harbajan. When needed you do not. Including Vengsarkar was non co operative to Dravid when he was captain. He has not lost captaincy, he had resigned, all need to know why??? Now yes, Srikanth has to bring back the old glory, remove the politics, He needed time and now it has come.

Dravid's Inclusion
by Narasimha on Aug 18, 2009 11:41 AM  | Hide replies

BCCI on most of the occasions ill treats the south indians, I dont find any reason for removing Dravid from the team in 2007. in world cup most of the players failed to keep the tempo including youngsters why axe fell only on Dravid? now answer for this. Now recalling him is not a bad decision, On foreign soil only two players are most successful those two are Laxman and Dravid these two are classy players and with tremendous technic with the help of Dravid youngsters can learn so much from him. With regard to Dhoni our Captain now a days he is not playing his natural game his batting become slowed down when he entered the team he was very good pinch hitter but now he is playing slow cricket which is not suitable for One dayers and 20-20s. So it is a good decision to recall Dravid in to the team

dear narsimha all of us know that BCCI is the most unprofessional sports body in the universe...managed by politicians and bureaucrats..

the problem vth selection in indian cricket is dat its too zonal...i mean from wichever zone the selectors r frm v ve players frm dat zone getting selected, irrespective of whether they deserve it or not...
so if hails frm north zone or south or west or east more often than not player frm dat zone gets selected...

as a result DESERVING players are often the casualty....der are ample examples..AMOL MAZUMDAR,S.SRIRAM,MURALI KARTHIK,CHETESHWAR PUJARA, just to name a few...

so jus dont conviniently pitch the south indian, north indian debate....

the problem lies vth the system...!

there are players from diff parts of the country who were victims n just not south india...!!

slam the system if u like...

and as to the last part...u said only dravid n laxman were successful overseas...ha ha...
more den half of sachin's hundred are outside the subcontinent...which is more den the total number of hundreds laxman has made..!!!

This is a joke ... Under Ganguly - at one point of time 6 out of 11 players were from karnataka ... Srinath, Prasad, Dravid, Kumble, Sunil Joshi, Sujith Somasunder ... Think before u talk ... BTW Dravid should have been thrown to arabian sea much earlier ... (We couldn't clear 1st round under his pathetic captaincy) ...

If one has to be removed from the team because he not a great captain then Tendulkar should have been removed from the team 10 years ago!!!

Ganguly is a f@rt no doubt about that. He hops around like a clown against short pitched bowling probably craps his pants on his way to the crease.

Dude, if u think dravid cnt play 1 dayers, ask sum1 called mr. allan donald, he wil giv u d answer. Very recently in IPL wen most of d so called 1 day grts like ganguly n yuvraj wer struggling, dravid again showed wt he is capable of, n wen required he cn even score at a gud rate, n if even aftr all dis u think dravid is nt suited for 1 dayers den eithr u r biased who has a fixed mindset wch wil neva change or u knw nthn abt criket, criket is a team game n its nt only d captain who cn win u d cup if all 11 players dnt perform, so pls stop watchin criket wen u dnt undrstand it

See the issue is that Vengsarkar is an azzole and after Dravid stepped down from captaincy Vengsarkar went after him mercilessly and axed him from the ODI team. The truth is Dravid did become a bit of a bore and is run rate was low but I think after IPL-2 he has made the necessary adjustments to score at a quicker pace. And there is no doubting his technique against the quicks and the short-pitched ball...something that youngsters like Raina and Rohit do not know how to play.

it wasn't vengsarkar ... it was Dhoni .. and he wanted even Ganguly dropped from the aussie series. His idea of getting youngsters in the team is to have bunch of raw players who could be ruled by him.
Tell me something, why in any series , competent wicket keeper batsmen like Dinesh kartik are not featured. Thats what i observed when Dhoni became captain.

Wat are the selectors gonna say to youngsters like Rahane, virat kohli, manish pandey...dat we are giving another chance to a 37 year old in ever demandin one day cricket...!

COME ON NOW..MR SRIKANTH WE THOUGHT YOU WERE NOT A REGIONALIST LIKE UR PREDECESSORS...
BUT I GUESS SYSTEM MAKES EVERYONE THE SAME EVENTUALLY....

Nah!! Rahul Dravid came back because the younger guys haven't performed and give the Indian team the solidity he did. It is a warning the young guys : Don't take your place for granted just because you are young and talented, you have to perform.

where was dhoni?????
by uma somappa on Aug 18, 2009 11:39 AM

well it is an unexpected call. Dravid was sidelined from 2007 onwards, not bocoz of his form. Then there were youngsters doing well during this period and rightly the Selectors especially chairman and Dhoni backed youngsters and dumped Dravid. Suddenly these young guns fell to the short pitched bullets during WT20 with ease. With same hastiness they were given boots.... Where was dhoni????
Is he also party to this decision???? If so why???? Is he also afraid of short pitch stuff???
