This Government has gone Bonkers
by Mak Kumar on Apr 21, 2009 07:00 PM

Why do they have to get so tough for some absentees. Why don't they use their power for getting some regulations in thousands of other things which need attention- No traffic rules followed any where in India, Thousands of illegal buildings on Government land, Laks of Electricity thieves.

And how about the Sports minister which almost killed Hockey in India by his politics in the Indian Hockey Federation- shunting away the immensly gifted Dhanraj Pillay and axing talented players just because they didn't lick his a..

If people with no credentials occupy such high posts, why should Dhoni accept the award? Bring someone better and then announce the award,i'm sure both Bhajji and Dhoni will come to the ceremony

Awards
by indranil mukherjee on Apr 21, 2009 06:51 PM

Why such a important and controversial order is signed by a junior person( Jt secretary, A person with 16 years of service after qualifying a Entrance test for IAS)and not a very senior beurocrat/minister? This is how beurocracy is serviving.

do not mix sports & politics !
by Jayaraman V on Apr 21, 2009 06:49 PM

The UPA govt is mixing sports and politics.
They decided to give Padma awards to Dhoni at the time of this election, only bcz of one-upmanship since Dhoni's brother has joined BJP !
There have been so many instances when people had rejected the govt awards and even recently so many army jawans returned their medals to the UPA govt, in protest. What action has been taken by this govt ?
All a hogwash !!

This issue is important
by Bharatiya on Apr 21, 2009 06:45 PM

The awardees are mainly of two types:

1. People with the "right connections" and
2. Celebrities, who are awarded in order to cash in on their popularity - in short, a populist measure.

In fact most of the deserving people never even get nominated, forget awarded.

I am happy someone showed the country the real importance and worth of these awards.
