There are some idiots who never learns. They always find pleasure in criticising and opposing the best in business.
Yes they have no regrets.
"We" here means the family of 14 generation idiots, which one should not confuse with "we" meaning people of India.

This is life .You have to accept the reality .It is not that you cannot play any more in test/odi .Yes you can but cricket is such a game that even God like Sachin also got brickbat sometimes .Better late than never ,you have taken a right choice and lot of young generations are just waiting to play .I would have love if you could give a statement like I am leaving for giving a chance to younger players instead typically Bengali feeling ,you are leaving cricket with lot of pain it seems .This is not professionalism Mr. gangully .Take lesson from great like Sachin who said "I want to convert stone to a milestone " .What a statement ,perhaps a statement all professional should talk .Anyhow goodbye Sourav ,We have also seen enough of your cricket as you said "I have had enough".We would like to see your vedio in future to cherish the game and some delightfull shots you have played worldwide .I would advise you to join extra commentry job in cricket which is much more demand than playing and worthy a professional career .

I don't know Sachin is God or not but he is definitely one of the greatest batsman world has ever seen. But that doesn't mean that Ganguly,Dravid is a not a good player. No one can deny that Sachin-Ganguly is best ODI opening pair.Ganguly is not only a good batsman, he has got one of the best cricketing brain.A player should be judged by his performance--as long as one can lay well.....why ignore him.If you want younger players to groom, you can follow rotation policy. But please don't just dump a player or any person who has given a lot to his country; this will demoralise the upcoming players. Now that Ganguly is saying Good bye,he atleast deserves a Good Farewell. Please don't dump him with a regional or other ill feeling.

Those who critiseze foolishly Sachin in terms of wining only does not know cricket at all .Cricket is not for wining alone it is the delightfull shots which brings enjoyment to the spectators. How delightfull when Sachin playes that backfoot cover drive with audacity and ease to a goodlenght ball to the fence moving along the grass or a beutifull cover drive by Sourav to the offside or a mid on wrist flick on drive of Laxman or a straight drive of Rahul Dravid .Have you observed anytime this shots ? or always want to see how many World cup/ ODI Sachin has won for the country

Biggest contributor to Indian cricket
by Anju Sinha on Oct 19, 2008 12:14 PM  | Hide replies

The biggest contribution of Ganguli to Indian cricket is that he made the dressing room comfortable for those who belonged to smaller places of India for cricketing like Raebareli, chandigarh, Ranchi or kerala. Cricket was basically 80% Karnataka, Mumbai and Delhi. Now it is other way round and players like bhajji, dhoni, sreesanth, yuvraj, raina, pathans, zaheer, r p singh etc should be really thankful to him. We all know how earlier doshi was treated by gavaskar or saba karim by Ravi shastri. Hats off to dada for making cricket a real all india game.

Ganguly...we are all prouf of you and the fact that you have been the most successful among the indian cricketers after the comeback, also you have proved chappell and gud for nothing More wrong....you have shown the best way to retire by scoring...you have also shown how to focus on the game amidst all pressures and controversies...you have the guts, instict, leadership(born leader...no doubt..),determination and would prove to be a perfect case study for riches to rags and back to riches.....you are my inspiration after kapil...thanks for all the entertainment...And now its time to kick More A$$...the day your biography hits the stalls I would be the first to grab one....waiting for that and also would appreciate if you can get into the commentary box as you have a clear perception of how the game has to be played...

This is a rare attitude and strength with Ganguly. His come back despite More-Chappel episode is an exmaple for his strong execution ability, quite inspirational.

Congtrats to you Sourabh for that valuable 100, as he rightly said, there could not any regrets for him on declaration of his rtirement. More so when he proved a point

Retiring Players
by ravindra kp on Oct 19, 2008 11:49 AM

The BCCI seems to have a unwritten policy of retiring players forcefully. Performance should dictate whether a player should be in the team or not. Some of the decision makers in the BCCI have not held a Cricket bat or a Ball in their life, but call the shots on player selection. Though the BCCI claims to run the game of cricket professionally, the claims look hollow.

DADA deserves better respect...........
by Chintu on Oct 19, 2008 11:46 AM  | Hide replies

This rediff blog has seen some real crap being written against the Fab Four (or is it Five). The one reason that I feel this is so is because these bloggers basically consisit of youngsters (20-30 yr olds) havent really seen these guys at their best, since they have been playing for the last 10 years, when most of these bloggers were in their knickers. This is the reason of their disrespect for these senoir players. As Ganguly has shown, thebest way to silence the critics, is therefore to let the on-field performance speak for you.
And for all those armchair idiots who talk about Ganguly only doing well against minnows, well all I can say is that they just dont understand cricket........and that it is their frustation at having to eat their own shit they spoke about Ganguly that is forcing them to hunt out obscure statistics .

I LIKE GANGULY...... AS A LEADER & A FIGHTER
by roopesh raghavan on Oct 19, 2008 11:38 AM  | Hide replies

It all started with the arrival of Greg Chappell on the scene. Being an arrogant and exclusive person, Greg tried to snatch the all powerful dominance that Ganguly used to wield in the team. Chappell did not like this, as Ganguly remained the biggest hurdle in his experimentations that hurt India dearly. He asked the skipper to quit. The BCCI and the selection committee endorsed Chappell’s recommendation. There were uproars in the media for months. Finally, Ganguly was shown the door at the behest of Chappell, who proved a disaster for Team India. But brave Ganguly made a flying comeback, and in 2007, he scored 1023 runs in 9 Test matches in 2007, more than any other Indian cricketer.

Now look at the performance of the big three. While Sachin scored a total of 95 runs in 3 Test matches in the recently concluded India-Sri Lanka series with highest score being 31, Ganguly scored 96 runs with 35 being the highest score. Even Dravid who scored 148 runs in three Tests was found struggling against Ajantha Mendis. All the three stalwarts did not perform as per their caliber and expectations. So, judging on performance basis, Sachin and Dravid must also be dropped or they should announce their retirement. But that is not the case with the members of the selection committee.

According to former India cricketer Kirti Azad, “the selectors discriminated against Sourav Ganguly by ignoring him for the Irani Trophy while retaining Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, w
