A sad article
by rajanikanth nayak on Oct 11, 2008 09:12 AM  | Hide replies

I am really sad to read that the writer has used the occassion of exit of one of Indian crickets best players to spew venom at everyone seen to be against ganguly. It seems that the writer has completely forgotten that we live in a flawed world and that some sacrifices have to be made to achieved desired results. I am not a great fan of ganguly but I have to accept that he took Indian cricket to great new levels. But, the truth also is that Ganguly achieved some of his greatest success because of off the field factors that none of his other mates had. Ganguly currently stands at the helm of being the best captain India ever had. But, let us not forget that Ganguly achieved all that he did because he had a godfather who controlled Indian cricket. Before Ganguly, Sachin and Azar were probably better srategists than he was but they never had the luxury of getting the players they wanted. Selection committee meetings were regional politics potpans with everyman trying to take a piece of his own. Ganguly on the strength of Dalmiya's backing was able to prevail over all selectors and get the players he wanted. The writer tries to point out the injustice done to Ganguly by the coaches, captains and selectors conviniently forgetting that ganguly did push out kumble and laxman from the odi team. Its not vendetta that talks here guys it results. Ganguly's biggest strength has been his courage and attitude but that attitude slacked after the world cup finals. (to be continued)

It took a drastic action of dropping for him to get the juices back. The writer here talks here about chappel opposing ganguly. Here again he has forgotten that under the Chappel-Dravid regime we had a string of impressive before the west indies tour. The debacle that followed saw a political pressurised vengsarkar bringing ganguly back when what was really required was to give chappel some more leeway. The fact also remains that most of the points that chappel made regarding the team and players were subsequently proved to be true. What chappel did fail in was the management of Indians. Let me be clear here I am no Chappel lover but the fact remains that we had some good victories under his rule. The World cup debacle might have been avoided if some Indian manager had been appointed to oversee chappel and manage the Indian team. Let me reiterate the point I was trying to make. Everything is done to ensure a winning team. To get a winning team, it was necessary for ganguly to dump laxman and kumble and to get a winning team it was necessary for dravid/Chappel/Dhoni/More to dump Ganguly. Many people will ask the question as to why ganguly is being the worst treatment of the four. The reason is simple, Ganguly as a player bring the least to the table. Sachin for all his loss of form is still the most intimidating player for opposition. Plus he is close to a record.

Sachin is seen to suffer in batting when close to milestones. I hope that once he gets the record he plays more freely. Dravid for all his runs is also on of the greatest slip fielders ever, ditto for laxman. Ganguly on the other hand is at best an ok fielder whose presence on the field post-captaincy doesnt inspire confidence. The pressure was definitely on Ganguly to quit and I think that he has chosen the most honorable way of doing it. Some people will say that ganguly knows best when he says that he has two more years left, well there is always Ranji cricket where Bengal post ICL will need him badly. Before, closing off I would like to make a point with the writer on Dhoni. The writer says that dhoni never played a great test innings. Obviously the writer belives that only centuries count for great test innings, because I clearly remember dhoni playing a pressure cooker 70 in england to save defeat at lords and if that is not enough I would definitely point out that Dhoni is probably the best wicketkeeper among the current lot and also probably the best batsman keeper we had since probably Bhodi Kumaran. Of all the players in the current team Sehwag is yet to regain his batting in ODi and Yuvi needs a permanent Test spot so news flash we are stuck with dhoni now and he leads the team to victory and defeat so get over it. He has a say in the kind of players he wants and the oldies will stay far away. Stop throwing stones at people whose opinion differs from you.

Mr Nayak...you said that sachin is did not have the proper team...dude so did Ganguly, thats where a captain has to step in and spot some good talents and be brave to drop the seniors.Sachin failed on that and ganguly succeeded on that...Do not give some rubbish reasons....

I dont understad Ganguly answered with bat ,he was a failure in most of the matches after he lost his captaincy. He was a utter flop in Sri lanka. There should be no personal sentiments in the game of Cricket , if one performs , he can stay upto 40 , or more , if u dont perform it means ur age is taking toll and give way to thousands of others who are on the q.Who are the wolves? You bengalis canntot provide any other top player other than Ganguly ????Wh y are you making him a hero and fighting for his inclusion? when Ganguly is selected there is enjoyment on the streets, when he is excluded , there are riots.Cant u see the reason for his inclusion or exclusion? No state has such stupid sentiments.

there were never any riots in bengal due to his exclusion. pls chk ur facts bfr u shoot off ur mouth.
ur point regarding no other bengali player coming up is absolutely correct though. it is a shame that bengal has not had a permanent member in the indian team apart from ganguly. that is the real cause for concern. not his inclusion or exclusion in the indian team.
maybe, ganguly should have been like the other captains. he should have been regionally biased and included players from his own state instead of thinking for the betterment of cricket. i mean, look at the situation...badrinath, after scoring a highest of 30 odd in international arena, gets selected for the team, where rohit sharma and virat kohli, after scoring prolifically during their match against australia, get dropped. why does badri get in? because he's from the state of the chief selector. after all, we are a country run purely on qoutas, so why make an exception in cricket. talent and ability is irrelevant in south now. everyone who is anyone will get a chance and the real talent from north will get neglected.
this is a sentimental write-up, but the heart is placed correctly. is your heart in place?

Wolves always bite when you are hurt, Dada has stood Tall in his Game, by his word and action - I wonder if the others have had the same level of commitment and Love for the Game as Dada has shown. He is has done the right thing by holding his head high and leaving on his own term. Good Luck Dada, work on West Bengal Cricket as you have for Indian Cricket.

People say him prince of kolkatta they are wrong, he is King of Cricket...More and vengaskar are the losers, who did nothing when they were in team..they are liability of team and still a liability to cricket and board. There are other players like Tendulkar,Dravid, many more but always the axe falls on Ganguly..But on thing a group of dogs can kill a LION but can't Beat him..coz in jungle LION is King...and this what we are watching is jungle raaj in indian cricket...Ganguly is the biggest asset of Indian Cricket and More and Veng..are biggest liabilities of Indian cricket...East or West He's The Best...

THis is one of the best article I read after a long time.
You dont need hesitate in calling spade a spade.
And it is indeed fact that vengi, dhoni and media were after Ganguly.... they couldn't ouster him before as he was performing consistently. Just one series... Sri Lanka and they fked him.
Dravid, Dhoni.... total failure in test cricket since last 1 - 1.5 year.... still they are there. Dravid does make sense.... he great cricketer.
Dhoni.... he is nothing..... just a small drop of water in comparison to Saurav, Sachin and Dravid.
India will realise soon that whether this dhobi good for nothing is all after money or these greats.
Ganguly is great.
And I am not a bengaly.

If so many of the cricketers didn't want him in the team, there must be something wrong with him. Scoring runs is not the only criterion. In a team, you have to be a team man, not a behind-the-back schemer who cost Laxman, Kumble, etc their careers.

oh really? , this guy is the best captain we ever had..because of him zaheer khan owe their cricket careers to him ,he didnt promise and delivered silently, the great sachin tendulkar failed and got 4 runs in a crucial world cup final where even sehwag shone through, u may argue that sachin got india to the finals but the fact is players of his caliber could finish the job and even 38 year old players of lesser class like mike hussey do a better job when it matters, dada was a great cricketer and he went out swinging , nothing wrong with that , i respect him even more now

how many captains have been able to motivate sachin, dravid, kumble? azhar had all 3 of them and did zilch!
ganguly turned this bunch of individuals into a cohesive fighting unit! a team which met glare with glare, sledging with counter-sledging, and eye for an eye! what we see of team india today, is the result of the hard work put in by john wright and sourav ganguly.

Well no doubt that ganguly is one of the india's best. This doesnt mean that everyone in india likes him. People got different tastes and they have different choices and so different favourite players. Pl guys, dont fight over some silly issues like this. He did a great job and one has to go and he is going. Its not our job to know whats the hell is going on there between him and other people nor we get anything of it. Yeah, i like to ask u guys to have a mind at Y SO MANY PEOPLE ARE AGAINST TO HIM, y not to sachin or dravid or kumble. Y HIM ONLY?? There is a saying in india, Jaise Karni, waise hi barni. SO leave thse issues to them to resolve..

First question...is this even an article?

Was Rediff paid to have this kind of rubbish published? or its someone in the development team, who self created a web page, and then self wrote it as well.

I think small towns with those tabloid type newspapers have better articles than this one.
