speechless

I'm speechless that the author has compared in this manner! Isn't it meaningless to rank based on the differences in the averages for the same batsman?

Boss, yeh Rajneesh Gupta 'gadhaa' hai. Yeh aise likhta hai jaise woh khud bahut bada tees-maar-khan hai. Isey balla bhi pakadna nahin aata hoga. Air-conditioned office mein baith kar gyan mein bhi de sakta hoon. Probably, he went to Dravid and Ganguly to maango some bheekh in his life and they didn't oblige. He's out to prove to the readers that these guys are worthless. We didn't even ask for his opinion whether Dravid and Ganguly failed or not. Yeh khud hi apne aap ko khuda bana raha hai. Don't worry Shri Rajneesh Gupta... you are not a selector and we don't care for your opinion. Cricket is a game and we are perfectly fine losing it also... as long we know that the guys played well. We'll enjoy watching the test matches with these very Sachin, Kumble, VVS, Ganguly and Dravid. You don't like it? No problem... we couldn't care less.

i am shock to see, the way u compare.....its totally otherway....i dont understand wat u want convey on this analysis....look at the no of runs scored against australia not the Avg difference....if a playet career avg is 20 and if he palyed 5 matches against Aus...scoring at Avg 30..u are making him top ten batsmen...shame on ur analysis.....if u dont know...never publish such stupid analysis....

ab be gadhe,

average is computed by using number of runs scored only. To be precise it is Number of runs scored divided by number of matches.

Abe, gadha woh nahin...tu hai.
What Sandeep is saying is that you cannot compare the difference of averages... if somebody plays only 5 matches against Aus (look at Abid Ali's case) and his average (mind you average doesn't depend on the number of matches you played) is slightly higher than your normal average, then you are the winner, even though you played hugely against the Aussies. So Abid Ali with an average of 30 is much much superior to Sachin Tendulkar (who by the way, averages 56 against the Aussies and yet fail to make the top 10).

Ab samjha?

Shastri is ADC of Gavaskar
by ganesh shyam on Oct 06, 2008 02:02 PM

Shastri slowest batsmen after Sardesai & most of his runs are off the pads ie leg glands & never took chances & played days together for his century..Ha Ha a real "BORE" he was & still he is & has no fluency in English as a commentator & comments are childish & rubbish & no posistion to comment as not in the league of Gavaskar etc

This is a joke.

There is a joke that says "Given enough samples, anything can be established by statistical means." The author has proved it emphatically.

Hillarious Thoughts from the Author
by ravi boppudi on Oct 06, 2008 06:48 AM

What kind of silly talk is this from the author? Some lower middle order batsmen and bowlers may have upped their average against Australia but still that contribution is no where near to what Rahul Dravid and VVS have done against Australia - An everlasting happiness for the rest of our lives with those magnificent centuries and double centuries. How can anyone ever forget the stupendous 233 from the blade of Rahul Dravid that acted as a shock absorber to nullify the double century from Ricky Ponting and then followed it up with an unbeaten 72 in the second innings to give one of the most famous overseas victories for India? At the end of the day, I think, one can only pity the Author for his 'shrewd' talk :-)

Shastri was dropped 7 timed in that knock of 206
by madhav hegde on Oct 05, 2008 09:18 PM

One more thing is that Ravishankar Jayadrath Shastri was dropped on 6 to 7 occasions during that knock of 206 and incidentally he was Warne's first test victim, ridiculous stats!

What contrived nonsense in the name of stats...
by Aditya on Oct 05, 2008 09:06 PM

This idiot of a statistician called Rajneesh has come up with avgs and then ranked them as most sucessful according to their difference in avgs... SO Abid Ali and Kirmani with avgs of 30 and 36 against Australia are supposed to be more sucessful than Tendulkar, Dravid, Sehwag and Laxman even if all these four have avgs over 50 in test cricket against australia. Who covers cricket in rediff, that person should be sacked for coming up with such nonsense...
