A maiden centurion ..... another feather in his cap
by dsilva_p on Nov 03, 2008 08:11 PM  | Hide replies

Correct me if I am wrong guys ... Anil is the only leg spinner cricketer (if my memory serves me right) who has added feather on his cap by scoring a maiden century very recently. Goes to show that all his potential was just not limited to the ball, but with the bat too. Long live Anil, we will always be proud of you.

Kumble is a special man.
He never crossed the limits of decency, never booked by umpires or punished by match referees.
Never sledged or was sledged.
He a true gentleman.
His departure is painful to a cricket lover like me.
Long live Kumble.

But is the spelling of his name okay. His name's spelling sounds like crumble or trouble - you know what I mean?
The spelling should have been Koomblay like display or Grindlay- you know what I mean, Sengupta?

Anil Kumble the great
by belur vas on Nov 03, 2008 07:18 PM

Hats off to Anil Kumble, the warrior on the cricket field, a gentleman from the land of gentlemens, GR Vishwanath, Prakash Padukone to name a few.

By sheer determination he performed, crossed 600 wickets which no other Indian bowler has done and only the 3rd in the cricketing world.
If he had got all the chances like Murali or Warne, he too would have crossed 700 if not more.
When he ran through the tail, people said what so what, but when he did't, opposition tail wagged frustated the Indian camp.

When he took wickets on home soil they siad so what, what Murali or Warne or any other bowler did on their home soil was OK.

Praise can go on & on, but rarely one comes across another Kumble, particularly a bowler who toils a lot.

Adieu to Anil Kumble, best of luck.

Srinivas.B.R. Mumbai

The only remaining Karnataka
by dsilva_p on Nov 03, 2008 06:48 PM  | Hide replies

With the departure of Anil Kumble, the sun has set on the cricketing horizon. The curtains are almost down with the fact that there is only one Karnataka cricketer now presently in the Indian Team - Rahul Dravid. There was a time when this Karnatakaite bandwagon was supported with the big wigs like Javagal Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad, Sunil Joshi etc. to name a few. Rahul will surely feel the vacuum created in the absence of his compatriot, since both of them were very good mates. It remains to be seen now how long Rahul will stay put to get another compatriot from his hometown into the Indian Team. Will it be lucky or will he be the next person to disperse quietly into the sunset horizon of cricketing era. Only time will tell. Anil has always been an upright cricketer who put his heart and soul into the Indian cricket arena. As far as records can speak, I will always relish his 10 wicket haul with the Pakistanis in Feroz Shah Kotla - the way he humbled them off in a tizzy. My salutes to you Anil and my best wishes in all your assignments you undertake in your future endeavors. May God bless you for everything that you have done.

Yes Prakash, as you say boss. You guys are ALWAYS right. No confrontation whatsoever. I was specific on the linguistic point-of-view. Yes, our motherland comes first above all at all times.

Kumble is a source of imspiration for many ppl---when he could take 600 plus test wickets that too without turning the ball-what does it indicate---nothing is impossible in life--we salute you jumbo
