Sachin not suitable for this format
by Raman on May 04, 2008 12:46 AM  | Hide replies

1)He needs 50 overs to score his trademark centuries and in 20-20 he dont have that luxury
2)He likes to score very slowly everytime he reaches a milestone be it 50 or 100 and he cant do that in 20-20
3)He has to hit sixes more than 4s which he isnt known for, though he has a healthy strike rate his game revolves around ground shots and copybook strokes,he took 74 odis to score his first century and always struggled when he was in Middle Order.
4)Last but not least he chokes under pressure and 20-20 is all pressure thruout.
I highly doubt we wouldve won the 20-20 WCUP if he or Dravid or both played in it..

VVS Laxman
Dravid
Wasim Jaffer
and lot more players are not suitable for 20-20,at least the international version

Where is Ganguly in that list?

If Ganguly is suitable for 20-20, Sachin is suitable too for sure.

Lol, Ganguly never scored faster than Sachin.

Ganguly's strike rate never surpassed 80s and Sachin's strike rate never came below 80s, after two decades of his cricketing career. I don't think you need more than that.

I would not select Sachin for Indian 20-20 team, but for Mumbai, yes.

Thas all i meant as well, that he isnt fit for National team but for Mumbai he may play
cause like u said Dravid Laxman and others are playing

Remember his strike rate is better but Dada sure played faster in his prime, from 1996 to 2002 look
at Gangulys record it is much better than Sachins and tell me one innings of sachin
similar to Dadas 180 plus against SLANKA in 1999 WCUP and his 137 against Pak in Bangladesh
chasing over 300 under fading light in 48 overs.
Remember so many times he outplayed Sachin when Sachin was focussing on his 100s,look at the score
of the first ODI against SAF in SAF in 2002,u will realise i am right,he hit like 5 sixes
and when he got out Sachin was not even half the way he was and sachin scored a slow 100 and india lost

What about 186 scored by Sachin against NZ?
What about the century he scored in Desert Storm against Australia in Sharjah that took India to the final in that Series? Sachin also followed that innings with another century in the final?

He scored 130s and 140s numerous times in his ODI career?

Well, if Sachin had scored 42 centuries, there was a reason for that, and may be he is cautious after he reaches 50 and milks the bowling, and he has better conversion rate of 50s into 100s than any other player. The bottom line is his strike rate overall never comes below 80s, so he can play in whatever way he wants. And, despite this, if you could find a better ODI player than Sachin, that replace Sachin with that player. I am sure you and the selection committee will not find that player until Sachin announces retirement on his own. And none of the members in the selection committee has the guts to replace Sachin.

Sachin is too great a player to be touched. Only Don Bradman is eligible to make negative comments on Sachin's batting.

Mr. Raman I know u r Bengali.Man just move over Bengal. They both play for India. And 4 ur kind info.,Sachin's career strike rate in ODI is 85.49 and where dada's 73.70.What that means to u?????Which is better,85 or 73.Thats a huge difference.I really doubt u have ever seen Sachin's innings, bcoz u only watch cricket 4 dada.Yeah u r right to some extent that Sachin,Dada,Laxman and Dravid are unsuitable in 20-20 format. But Sachin is much much much better than Dada in any format in any day in IPL.

Shivlal Yadav was showing too much influence on the Hyderabad Ranji team. Players got so fed up, some of them changed to Andhra Ranji team. Next most of the players from Hyderabad Ranji team joined ICL. Shivlal Yadav's son later became the captain.

Kick Laxman,
by Ravikumar on May 03, 2008 10:55 PM  | Hide replies

Laxman is the most shameless player i have ever seen.In t20 match there are 120 balls.Laxman might have scored 50 but by consuming 44 balls which is not at all good in these type of format. We need players who can utilize first 6 overs field restrictions.
DC which was projected as hot favourite to win the tournament stands lowest because of Laxmans ineeficency as captain and poor stratagies.

agreed with vvs rama. although laxman is not fit for t20, this much hyped afridis r the worst players who perform once in blue moon but the problem is that moon doesnt turn blue at all.

Who cares if he scored 52 off 44. Sharma scored 57 off 42 & the next highest score was 17 off 7 by bangar & 10 off 11 by gilchrist. Then it was 5 by gibbs & 3 2 1 by yadav styris & afridi.

Now would you rather he score 0? Why do people like you go after players without an evidence. So what if he scored 50 off 100 balls. The team around him fell like the KKR team vs the punjab kings XI.

Theyre 62/5 off 11.5 overs. Would you rather have the DC team perform like that?

Laxnman lol, who made that typo!!!?
by Jasper kim on May 03, 2008 10:25 PM  | Hide replies

I thought the chargers would win but I guess not even against a side thats losing games also. I guess they'll need to play mumbai indians again to register a win.

To the guys before me arguing that laxman shouldnt open. I am for that but I really wonder how much of a diff. it would make since afridi hasnt done well with the bat & neither has gibbs. Gilchrist hasnt any any good innings either except his 100. The last 2 matches its been laxman & sharma that made the most contributions. So blaming laxman just because hes the captain/on the team is pretty stupid. The chargers bowling side is awful its the worst in the league & their batting line up isnt coming through for them.

Now the question is how many games will the win before the end of the tournament & what about the next ipl season? Also are the players contracts only for this season or how long are they for? I read that the teams were bought for the next 10 years.

Today the bowlers have bowled OK. They did OK with Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai, by limiting the teams to 160 or below scores, which is pretty good for a 20 over match. The bowling attack is without aggression and quality bowlers though. Who selected the team should take the blame for this choice. But they have to now perform with what they have. I have to agree with you that Laxman batted well in some matches, but this is a 20 over match. It doesn't matter if you bat well or not when you are between the wickets till 15th-16th over and unable to lift the average. It's better to get all out than staying not out in that case. DC has good batsmen(best batting squad in IPL), but the captain doesn't know how to make use of the available resources. I don't know how the franchise owners are dealing with him right now.

3 years? Thats not bad I guess although I wonder if the players will be available.

Yea I understand, laxman isnt a 6 hitter. In tests its ok but in t20 you can hit 4s but you have to hit them hard so they race to the boundary before a fielder gets to it. Plus would you rather him score less than 10 while the team is folding like KKR right now. Theyre 49/4 at 9.2 overs.

Atleast DC did better than them.

You make a relevant point. But when the team lost it does not matter at what score it lost. DC kept a pathetic show today even after losing 4 matches. Rohit Sharma at least hit a 4 and 6 after seeing that run rate is really less by the end of 15th over. Laxman should have exited by then. There were 7-8 wickets left by then. Bangar hit 2 sixes in last over. Only if these bowlers like bangar had one more over left, they could have made it with and six or four.
