ADIEU - prabhakaran..please retire
by Another Indian on Mar 08, 2008 05:06 AM  | Hide replies

Dhoni's statement looks fair. But prabhakaran's doesn't. It looks severely biased, one-sided, prejudiced, jaundiced and full of personal illogical beliefs..
Saar... please retire from this forum.. you will have done a great service to a lot of people who bore you no harm, yet get subjected to messages from you every day, day by day, and usually its CTRL-C, CTRL-V stuff.
So remember - you have it in your control to spread a lot of good will..

Hi Nilesh:
How are you? I completely understand that this must be driving you crazy, looking at a string of messages between me and Swami, Prabhakaran, prabha karan etc.
Bear with us mate. I just keep acknowledging these guys with a smile wherever I see them, they keep coming back with their nasty mood. Surely can't be a pretty sight for you. Just hoping my smiles will keep you from feeling too low..
Cheers! :-)

Hi Nilesh:

Bye Nilesh. It was nice having you here. But it seems ultimately the high points of the conversation got your mental equilibrium.

See you some time posting through your own keyboard, as opposed to your current message, which somehow prabhakaran swami has typed on your behalf.

Cheers!

RE:ADIEU sachin..plesae retire
by HARD HITTER on Mar 08, 2008 04:14 PM
what has dhoni done in this series to win the CW series? what ever is done, it is by sachin, gambhir and ishant. what is dhoni's personal contribution?
after he has become captain of our side, how many times has he managed to scorer at a brisk rate? Now don't think that scoring at brisk rate means hitting each and every ball. Brisk rate can be achieved by stroking singles and doubles!
Look at the current series, he has scored 2 good scores 88 of 95 balls and 50 of 62 balls, rest of the scores are under 50%.
To stay at wicket is not a big deal and thats what dhoni has did! how many match winning performance he had delivered?(after being captain)NONE!
The number at which he comes to bat requires brisk scoring and that is what he doesnot do. So most of the times it depends on the batmen up the order to set a platform for him to play according to his wish and most of the time, they ahve done it and dhoni took his time to make his scores. Look at the chase of 150 runs against OZ which we won, had sachin not led a foundation of 44 runs, we would have ended losing the match.
Talking about youngsters, excluding gambhir's performance, which youngster has performed with consistency. Look at yuvraj, uttappa and rohit sharma's contribution.
why yuvraj and uttappa were in team inspite of consitent failures?
So tom, this series is won only becos of expirience batting from sachin, gambhir and fierce balling from ishant. about dhoni only on ething is commendabe, that is the balling

You have to give him credit for playing well in this series. Get rid of the bias, granted he has not always won crucial matches, but on the other hand, 14000 runs in ODIs are still not easy to get; if it were so, you would see a long list of batsmen getting there. You don't have to praise him, but you may need to withhold the criticism when he did do well. Unless of course, you intent is to spark the usual pointless debates you see in this forum.

Hey abhinav:
How are you mate? prabhakaran has just unravelled a list of 99 Crore, 93 Lakhs, 48 thousand, 366 Indians who have made donations in the past 44 years to about 9,336 causes..
Give him credit where it is due.. :-)
He has also raided the ICC record room and discovered that there are actually 973 players who have surpassed the record of 26000 One Day International runs in their careers. The first time the 26000 mark was breached was by Glenn Pietersen of Norway in 1869 and he achieved it in a mere 18 ODIs..
That he has revealed to the world an ICC conspiracy is another feather in his hat.. :-)

So let us all salute the one and only prabhakaran... :-)

Give some more time to Dhoni and see how he performs
by CricFan01 on Mar 08, 2008 12:22 AM  | Hide replies

Every time India got a new captain and performed well in few games, then they are praised like anything. It happened with Ganguly in 2000, with Dravid in 2005 (when India won 17 games in a row on subcontinent pitches) and now with Dhoni. Lets wait and see after 1 year. If he continues with this winning habits, great. But you cant call some great or bad based on just a few games. If India loose to SA at home then the same people who are hailing Dhoni as the great leader will ask for his removal.

To succeed in international cricket, temprament plays more crucial role than technique. just remember how ordinary sort of technique ,Javed Miyadand used to have but he still dominated the game.so Dhoni shouldn't be criticised for his avergae technique and his keeping has improved by leaf & bound in recent times.his caiptancy skill is unmatched and deserves due praise.

Sourav used to play with passion and also get excited. Unfortunately he couldn't keep his emotions in check, like for example the shirt waving in England. Credit goes to him for leading India to the 2003 World Cup final and inparting an aggresive approach to cricket. Dhoni is different, in that he's maintained a calm demeanour and stayed away from controversies. The gloves issue was artificially manufactured by Healy and co. and ultimately proved to be a false allegation. To compare him with Sourav is not fair since he hasn't played the same number of matches. Let's wait for a few more series before attempting to make a comparision. Fair enough ?

Saurav took India to 2003 finals? What a joke. India reached 2003 finals due to Sachin scoring heavily in almost every game - he scored 623 runs and was highest run getter.

One man, be it Sachin or Sourav cannot take India anywhere. It's a team effort. Obviously one of the batsmen will get the runs and one bowler has to get a good haul. And don't forget the fielders who don't drop catches when they come their way.

The captain deserves the credit for the coordination, bowling changes, field placements, morale building and a bunch of other things which Sachin cannot do by himself. Imran Khan got the credit for the 1992 World cup win by Pakistan, but of course, everyone recognized Inzy's role. If your boss looks good, you look good.

Only time will tell what stuff Dhoni is made of
by S Hegde on Mar 07, 2008 09:34 PM

I like his calm under pressure, I like how he has changed his batting (not a good batting technique, but ) to situations in few matches. He used to be a wicket thower like Srikant. His wickt-keeping has improved (since Dinesh Karthik was on his heels) Now, he seem to be not a money obsessed person. Hopefully he will not go Yuvraj or Zaheer way.
In terms of supporting youngsters, Ganguly was good too - who supported Sehwag, Yuvraj, Bhajji when they were off color.
Hi batting performace in tests have to get better. We need to see how he handles some failures (which are bound to happen).

Dhoni is a great leader!
by Rohit Kanwar on Mar 07, 2008 05:55 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni has wonderful leadership qualities which have to be acknowledged. For example, it is very difficult for any captain to handle a player like Tendulkar in the team, whom everyone treats like God. But Dhoni, with all his frankness and grace, handled such white elephants (Manjrekar's words) quite well, and actually got performance out of them.

Dhoni got his glory due to consistent effort from sachin, gambhir and ishant. Only these 3 players performed in a team of 11. So why did not dhoni's leadership influence other 8 player, including himself!!! He did not have a single match winning effort. Now don't talk about the victories, where he came to bat and when match was more than won by sachin and gambhir!
Why was his leadership not able to influence his close friend called yuvraj, whom he picked up in every match, inspite of consitent failures! what happen to uttapa?
why couldnot he influence Rohit sharma to play consitently.
He has very minimum contribution in this CW series victory and that too behind the stumps.
On the other hand look at Kumble, in the test series he himself led an example, by firing his balls and getting consitent sucess inspite of the sydney contraversy. Now thats what you should call a true leadershio quality!!!

A good captain is one who who extracts best performance from the men in his team. As u know management is basically ManageMenT(echnique). India has had greats like SachinSaurav & Dravid in their team for a long time but they had not been winning like this. And in T20 he won without any of these greats. Dhoni has done just that. That is why he is the best captain India has had in a long time. I rate him above Ganguli also.

then why was dhoni not able to extract performance from uttapa and yuvraj? why did he retaine dthem inspite of consistent failures???
Talking about T20, it is a game that is entirely unpredictable, and full of luck and that the only reason we won it.
If it was dhoni's leadership that won us T20, they why did we got out under 100 in a recent T20 match against OZ? where was his leadership quality at that time!!!

You land in a new country, new type of pitch and then u r asked to perform in T20 match.Any one who understands cricket would call it cruel joke. It was a conspiracy by CA to redeem their lost prestige to which BCCI tamely became a party. If u remember, on the match eve itself Dhoni had said that he is treating this match as a practice match.

Yuvraj got 38 in 38 balls in the final. If this not performance then what is? Performance is doing enough to meet the needs of the team and not scoring hundreds and fifties to immortalise yrself and encash the reputation. Uthappa also did what he was aked to do as per his capability. It was not great but good enough for a win. Yuvraj is a multi-dimensional players so he is getting a long rope like Sahwag but dont be surprised if he is replaced by a new guy like Virat Kohli if he is not consistent enough. In his brief talk at Kotla Dhoni gave clear indication of this. U will see in course of time, Dhonis team will comprise only players who help him win. This fellow is fixated on winning. He is going to be one ruthless captain like of which we have not seen too many. Of course, this will bring a day when he himself will be be shown the door but that is how things should be. It is amazing in country of over 100 crore people we have just one Lata Mangeshkar, just one Tendulkar and so on. In my opinion talent is only waiting to be discovered. There is so much of it India. One has to only let the talent be the sole criteria for giving opportunity.

We are so much used to the era of Kings and Emperors that we are unable to think freely. With the kind of money cricket is now giving a whole lot of yougsters are trying to break into the arena. I find it impossible to believe that an improved and younger version of Kumble is not on the horizon. Perhaps this replacement will also be a dependeable batsman and an energetic fielder.
