Hii,.how many guys here of that era remember that evening ? I remember after the Indian innings, there was a break in the transmission of the match. We used to watch TV in a neighbour's house. And during that break, I heard on radio that Viv was going great guns. And there was a beautiful program of Md. Rafi : Rafi ke saath - ek shaam. I remember this particular song on TV, 'Duniya ke rakhwale...sun dard baare mere naale'. It was as if Rafi was praying for some divine intervention to help India in the match. And when the telecast resumed, lo and behold..Windies were 5 down all of a sudden. And in the night, the sound of crackers told the world, India had achieved the impossible. I remember the headlines too in some of the newspapers ...'By Lord's - Its India', 'India on Top of the World'. I guess the very lack of mass communications like cable TV those days, made it a much more special moment to savour, unlike today, where in a overdose of cricket is killing the game and other sports as well.

Yes Rajesh, the break in transmission that day made be come closer to cricket (I was just 9 then, playing only homely games like hide-seek). During the break my dad told me that Windies r 5 down. I informed the neighbours who were following the match on TV. They promised me ice-cream if that was true. And when telecast resumed, we were just inches away from history. Next day I was treated with lots of cream in the neighbourhood. Only sad thing is that we have waited long 25 yrs. for history to repeat at T20 WC

Yes in those, doordarshan (or boredarshan) use to intermittently stop cricket for broadcasting some useless program which no one would watch. I remember Christopher Martin Jenkins was doing the commentary on BBC when Richards was going great guns and then got out to one of the most outstanding outfield catches by Kapil, he ran from short mid wicket to almost square leg boundary to take that catch.

At that time, I was from a remote place, Trichy in Tamilnadu, where we did not have TVs, I still remember the transistor which my father got for me at that time and the whole night enjoying the match with my Grandpa..Memorable Moments!!!!
Winning the WC in 1983 is to me the greatest victory in Indian sport. It was a time when everyone thought that the Indian team was only participating. It was also time when cricket on TV had just made its entry.I remember watching the semi and finals on a balck and white TV on Doordarshan. It was a team effort from each and every individual and it is hard to believe that 25 years have gone by.Even if India wins the Wc again to me the victory in 83 would still be the greatest sporting history for India
