Money or country ??
by RKT on Jan 27, 2008 11:56 AM

With respect to all cricket players and what they have done for the team I am making following statements. " Tennis is individual game and the winner gets money for himself. But I have found LEANDER PAES a person above the personalities of any CRICKETERS of India. He plays best when he plays for country in DAVIS cup of GAMES like Asian, Commonwealth or Olympics where it is not money but honour to country comes. In davis cup Leander defeated likes of Ivasinevic, Andre Agassi. I still remmber his marathon match with ANDRE AGASSI for Olympic medal. (Leander got Bronze). AGASSI sweated blood out to defeat Leander in semi final (5 sets 7-6 , 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4). Cricketers got a chnace in commonwelth but lost the glory as money was not involved. Commitment like LEANDER miss in cricketers.

But 3 greats cann't chase 124 in West Indiis, 120 odd in Zimbobwe....and the recod maker goes for duck & 4 in respective matches. Bowlers did their job (Srinath, Agarkar, Kumble, Prasad) then Zaheer, Nehra, Kumble, harbhajan) but record makers failed.

For Indian players there is no retirement age until they are literally thrown out of the game. They keep thinking that after paying another test atleast one more test hundred can be added and few more runs will be added to them. Instead of quality cricket and quantity of cricket is important for India. People like Gawaskar failed many times and finally he got his hundred in Lords and suddenly he retired and every praised him that he retired in his peak of his career. The same will happend to Sachin, Saurav and Rahul. Even if their concentration levels comes down, they keep going asking for their places in test and ODI and someday they start playing with fews runs here and there with few centuries and the whole of India think that these people should be given more chances. We in India need to grow in our mind that few days of quality cricket is much better than quanity cricket. Even today people remember Don Bradman for his quality cricket. My words here are not with an intention to criticize players like Sachin, Saurav or Rahul and their contribution to Indian cricket is certainly good. My intention to say here is to take the example of Gilly like guys to call it a day when it is time.

Gilchrist - He is a start
by Checksum Error on Jan 27, 2008 11:42 AM

A player of high caliber..Adam Gilchrist has been a player who can walk into any Australian team. I mean Australian team which has played till now starting from day 1. After Rod Marsh, Australia got Adam Gilchrist, who was more successful in bat than anybody else in the world and whom all the teams feared for the way he scores runs...almost demolishing the bowling in his days. He chose the right moment for him to retire...Congratulations Adams ...you have made cricket proud.

india lost WC 2003 not coz of BIG3...but coz of three erratic young bowlers on d final day...bhajji,nehra n zaheer

india lost FINAL FRONTIER to Aussies aft 35 years coz of poor wicketkeeping by a young parthiv patel

in this series...the aggregate of dhoni, yuvraj n jaffer combined falls short of Kumble's....jus leave tendulkar or laxman

I M NOT AGAINST YOUTH....THEY SHUD B GROOMED....N THEY SHUD NOT B SUPPLANTING EXPERIENCE

n more so, in ATHELETICS...its PHYSIOLOGICAL or FUNCTIONAL AGE which matters n not the CHRONOLOGICAL AGE.....n on that ground sachin n co look younger than many other younger guys

winning a 20-20 WC doesnt mean u shud sacrifice your older cricketers for stuypid reasons

Ganguly n Tendulkar averaged above all in ODIs last year...in indian team...only yuvraj climbs in the list there

if they are performing....then putting up stupid AGE THEORIES is nothing but irrational....

in Aussies...Tendulkar turned out b the best batsmen....against pakistan...ganguly was the one.....laxman did well in both....kumble is batting like an orthodox top-order batsman....

what reasoning u r adhering to???

n if anyone plays well consistently...records will pile up....WHY U R LABELLING IT SELFISH???

its really surprising

i ll only say...NJOY THE NOSTALGIA AS LONG AS THEY PLAY......COZ ONCE THEY LEAVE....WE WILL MISS THEM FOR SURE.....

India lost because bad captaincy. Nobody will opt for fielding first on that wicket. Moreover, the way in which Ganguly played Magrath, I am 300% sure no other country would have given him any more opportunity but for Dalmia from the state.Even when he was forcebly given captaincy against Zimbaqwe, I still remember that in all the 6 one-dayers (triseries with Zim & Newzealand)he was out in the same fashion hooking and people were simply laughing.

read d history bookks again....all teams sent their A teams with only a few senior players...
RSA won gold,AUS silver

sachin played n made 1 decent score.....dravid n ganguly were playing in sahara cup....blame BCCI not these 3

There was a series that was giving money and another that was giving medal for country. Cricket was introduced first time. All countries send best teams to win this medal where as India cricket teams and money minded baord revolted. After long - long discussions etc. they went and played so marvellous that India finished second last in medal tally. So called great 3 didn't even made any 50 . Only one Amay Khurasiya played to get 1 odd victory. These suckers came back with heads down. How good are cricketers and their bosses for country is clear from this incident. AND OUR CITIZENS ARE CRAZY FOR THESE JOKERS.....ANYONE ON BOARD WHO CAN RECALL THE INCIDENT....NAME THE SERIES AND GAMES ??

Commomwealth games in malaysia or singapore and the sahara series against pakistan in canada!!!! anyone here who has any idea as to wht kinda team pakis fielded at both events??

However this is only for info purpose... i will only partly agree with wht Mr. RKT. board sucks n not the players. in this case even the board acted fairly.

BCCI had to send two teams to the two events cos it wd hav incurred huge losses if it had given a miss to the sahara cup. only an exceptionally insane cricket board would do tht. if other teams sent their best teams to the commonwealth games, its only cos they had nothing better to do at tht time. the aussies, brits, kiwis etc wouldnt even have sent a team to commonwealth games if they had a bumper money spinner like sahara cup in their schedule at tht time of the year.

Adam Gilchrist was without doubt one of the best wicket keeper of this era. in addition to his he also had the batting powers which could easily get him a place in the all time great one day world cricket teams listed. he was also one of the very few players who would walk off the crease without waiting for the umpires finger to point him out. his absence will make the aussie team and the world cricket arena poorer.

Unfortunately.. Gilly would also be remembered for cheating in the Sydney Test... Remember Rahul Dravid dissmissal, he was closest fielder and must have surely known that the ball had come off the pads.. still he appealed vociferously.

hey, But in the recent interview with Harsha bhogle, Gilly said he realised that Dravid was probably not out after about 10 seconds of appealing. But by then the umpire had declared Dravid as out and Gilly said he didn't have the courage to go against rest of the 10 players on field. He said the rest of the players would question him and would compel him to mind his own job on field. But he admitted that he couldn't clearly see and at first and felt that it was a pad and glove catch that he had taken
