India - Second test winner
by mahendra sapa on Jan 10, 2008 12:04 AM  | Hide replies

India would have comfortably won the second test. Australia in the 1st inning were 134-6. Had Symond been given out, in worst case scenario, Australia would have been all out within 250. India scored 500 , so with 250 run deficit Australia would have been under tremendous pressure on day 3-4.

Chances of India winning the second test and keeping the series alive were very very high.

Despite everything I like and respect Team Australia and I also like the new aggressive India.

Unfortunately Yuvraj and Dhoni hasn't been able to click on tour.

Hi Mahendra:

Good to do a lot of IFs and BUTs with the benefit of hindsight.

How do you say India would have scored 500 in first innings? If umpiring was perfect, India would have lost Laxman on 26 and Sachin on 38. So we would have been almost 200 runs short, at around 300.

So the deficit would still have been around 50 runs.

I agree it's tempting to indulge in the IFs and BUTs. BUT even Gilly gave a few gifts to the Indians by dropping catches. What did it result in? Dravid's century? Yuvi's double century?

So leave the IFs and BUTs. We need to concentrate on Perth and make the best out of it.

i am not surprised by ur post.
u proved u r menon

@australian posters and australian fans

symonds score = 162
actually out but not given = 30
official stats = aus win by 122 runs

162 - 30 = 132 (umpire blessed 132 extra runs to aus along with 2 more life)

132 - 122 = 10 (so india won by 10 runs)

also count other 9 errors by jokers umpires, and given 2 out to indian batsmen being no balls and decisions went against indian batsmen in 2nd innings dravid, ganguly, r.p. singh etc.

do all stats and tell me in actual australia lost the match by how many runs

Change the term ''Umpire''
by Raj vardhan on Jan 09, 2008 08:30 PM

Umpire means person having power in cricket same thing is going on the umpire is changing the entire match situation.
ICC has to change the term Umpire and put a name as valentator or some other just for to count balls carry bowlers accessories
all other things should be done by Technology which will display the result on SCREEN as soon as ball completd.
There should a person who observe things as which is third umpire is doing now and he has to correct the things if any technical problem occurs by seeing Video replies.
What do u say friends

Taufel is arguably the best umpire in the world. He can't stand in this series because he is Australian. Isn't it about time that we used the best umpires for the most important series? It's an indictment on cricket nationalism that we don't have the best umpires looking after the best matches. Who would be the second best umpire standing today? Dar? Billy?

There is no 'best' umpire. I've seen experienced umps. make stupid decisions, I've seen rookies making amazing calls. If your good enough for the elite panel, you should do elite games.
While Taufel is considered the 'best', the first mistake he made he would be vilified as being biased (sound familiar, and he wasn't an Ozzy). Dar's good because he goes on what he says, not perception. Billys a perception ump (like Bucknor) and goes on what he thinks went on.
Give you one idea, without C9 replays from 6 different angles, super slomo, the infrared, snicko, hawkeye and all the other gizmos you get on TV, the umps decision would be pretty final. Instead of looking for infallible umps, get rid of the big brother and let them do their job.

Yeah, gotta agree but can't see us going backwards in terms of technology. How long before we start to use google earth to track the balls trajectory? I quite like the 'hotspot' but Hawkeye should be retired and return to MASH. Why not have 4 umpires-each pair takes a session? I doubt that i could keep concentration for 6 hours x 5 days. Maybe we should look at using more umpires just in test matches. I reckon Chopper Reid would be an obvious choice as a stand in ump..he'd be all ears too.

Your right, not with Tony flogging every bit of new technology under the sun. (I'm not making accusations, but the majority of the tech comes from a company called pineapplehead (I think), love to see their share register). We don't need google earth, we already use. Hawkeye tracks the ball from an arena perspective, swap the arena for the Earth and its all the same.
As dismissals like LBW are based on perception, having standins would lead to inconsistencies. I could concentrate 6h x 5d over 42 days/yr for $120k/yr plus expenses and w/wide BC travel. Not a bad deal. I like your idea regarding Chopper, maybe Roger Rogerson at the other end. There'd be no dissent. Another idea is Tony and Sunil umpiring. They seem to have a better idea of how cricket should be played then the rest of us, if only they would deign to share with us their infinite wisdom by showing us how on the cricket field.

The only way out is to lay new laws. We can have, say, each team can appeal for 2 decisions in each innings if they have any doubt about umpire's decision and the 3rd umpire will give the final decision. This law is in tennis now ,I heard.

I'm not sure that would work. In tennis, there is very little grey area, either the ball is in or out. How many times in cricket have you seen a decision referred upstrairs and even then its not conclusive. Decision given is probably wrong and we are back to square one. Scrap all the tech, put in neutral umps and take the good with the bad. Everyone gets a fair shake of good and bad decisions. Ump'ing is hard at the best of times, these guys need some slack, not more restriction. As Charlie said though, we won't go back, only keep going forward.

The ICC rule clearly states that the comments concerning an individuals parentage are in the same vein as racist comments. I suspect, being a comment that isn't racist, he'll get the lower end of the suspension. (Especially given it will then be hard for the BCCI to weedle out of Harbis racism).
And guess who we replace him with, the fastest bowler in the world on the fastest pitch in the world. Guess you guys thought complaining about Hoggy was a good idea at the time. Especially now, with this suspension, you've just made the Ozzy team very, very angry.
Yuvraj knows whats coming, why do you think he gave his wicket away and walked. Thought walking two weeks early would help him avoid Perth. Smart man, young Yuvraj...

Bucknor WAS disgraceful but he wasn't the reason you lost. The indians still don't cope well with pressure. When you had us 2/86 in the second innings, you should have finished us off..but you didn't..and now you keep going on about the umpiring. the gulf between the 2 teams is still wide. the difference is that the aussies cope with the pressure and have a little more depth to their bowling stocks.

Cant say what cud have happened on the rest 4 days, but the 1st day whcich was for all of us to see, we can very well put India on the top.

And its not just abt one day, Bucknor & bensen has been hilarious/ridiculous/pathetic starting frm Day I ending at Day V.

Only one side sufferd the 95% decsions.

Pranky,

Context is everything. The context Hogg used the 'B' word in (in Oz) is the same as you would say to a brother fighting with you in the trenches. Its a term of utmost respect, saying your a hard, tough man. I have no problem with Kumble, Dravid and Sachin - amazing cricketers and have generally held the highest standards (of course 2 of the three are ball tamperers but lets not go there - cultural misunderstanding). Richie Benaud had a chucker in his team (Ian Meckiff). When he was called for chucking, Benaud accepted gracefully the decision and he never played again. So who was the captain when Harbi got called???? The 3 you mentioned in todays age stand above others, but comparing them to players past is ridiculous (like I just did :))
