I agree that Akhtar has some problems with his attitude but hopefully Ganguly will be able to manage that. Remember, he's also one of the world's fastest bowlers. India batsmen have struggled against him many a times.

I think kolkata team has done a big mistake by picking agarkar. I'm sure it was Ganguly's choice as he used to be one of ganguly's favorite bowlers when he was the captain of india

Agarkar has got great talent...He's got a hundred in tests at Lords, His holds the world record for the fastest 50 wickets, has the indian record for fastest 50 runs (21 balls), and is a great out-fielder. So , that makes him a decent 20-20 player, if he hits form. SRK and Ganguly have taken a gamble, that more often than not, Agarkar will perform. Its their money and only they hav a right to decide where and when to spend how much of it

yes dear Rajan, i know it's their money and their startegy. I'm only airing my views....

Agarkar has always been one of the more expensive and less successful bowlers especially during critical stages of the game. Hope he's not been selected because he's been Ganguly's chamcha....

by rahul g on Feb 20, 2008 07:53 PM  | Hide replies

its so disgusting that deccan chronicle bought symonds for 1.3 million only to make him the 2nd most costliest after dhoni.. and its deccan chronicle that pleaded with bcci not to give laxman iconic status that they need not pay him extra money..
well if symonds is the most valuable player for deccan chronicle the people esp hyderabadis know how to treat DC..the best place for it is the garbage bin..

Ah, so you are a laxman fan! Dear, Symonds is one of the best ODI players in the world today. Laxman is a test player and definitely not a 20-20 player. Other people are correct in pointing that out. So don't go barking at them

Stop crying...n learn to come to your conclusions on basic economics and not emotions.

IPL will only provide more job opportunities, not only for players but thousands of support staff neeeded. More revenues will mean more taxes that govt can use. IPL is the best thing to happen to India...make it succesful and move into the future, instead of crying and doing nothing at the present.

It is the overall contribution to the economy, dear. not just through direct employment. Tax revenue collections through 20-20 itself will be very big.

Are you saying SRK, Mallya, etc should give away all their money to charity instead? Will you do the same? Even if this was done, we can't wipe out poverty. Poor people need education and job training, not handouts.

I fully agree with you. All these people who go on and on about mallya, SRK spending the money are the ones who actually do nothing for this country. Do they know that SRK is one of highest personal income tax payers in the country? He paid 27 crores of tax last year. How many of those people who're complaining have paid even a small percentage of that tax?

sputnik: i agree with the problems but you just can't expect the businessmen to do the job which the government has to do. Our government is not answerable to all this due to which such problems are not addressed. Don't dump the burden on a few businessmen and stars....
