Dhoni must be a relieved man
by gopalan karthikeyan on Feb 19, 2008 10:50 PM

Till the lankan match it looked like Yuvraj would be a baggage in the Australian tour .At last he has discovered his bat .Dhoni must be a relieved man more than winning the match he must be happy that the player he backed has started scoring.Let us hope it stays this way since the rest of the Indian batting looks pretty shaky.Thank god Dhoni sent Irfan Pathan down the order which is where he is best suited. At least Dhoni is scoring in every match.

by Srinivasan Renganathan on Feb 19, 2008 10:48 PM  | Hide replies

TODAY WIN SHOULD PROMPT US TO GO FOR A FEW EXPERIMENTS IN THE NEXT MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIA AND CERTAILNLY NOT AGAINST SRI LANKA.

1. GAUTHAM GAMBHIR,
2. ROBIN UTHAPPA,
3. ROHIT SHARMA,
4. SURESH RAINA,
5. YUVRAJ SINGH
6. DHONI,
7. PATHAN,
8. PRAVEEN KUMAR,
9. PIYUSH CHAWLA,
10.SREESANTH.
11.ISHANT SHARMA.

CERTAINLY, WE CAN TRY SURESH RAINA, PIYUSH CHAWLA & SREESANTH BECAUSE
1. SACHIN CAN BE RESTED TO GIVE A CHANCE FOR RAINA TO HAVE MORE OPTIONS DURING OUR FINALS INSTEAD OF PUSHING HIM AT THE 11TH HOUR.
2. PIYUSH CHAWLA CAN ALSO BE TRIED IN THE SAME WAY AND ALSO SINCE HARBHAJAN IS NOW TAKING HIS PLACE FOR GRANTED.
3. SREESANTH CAN BE ALLOWED TO REGAIN SOME FORM BEFORE THE FINALS & ALSO SINCE MUNAF CAN NEVER BECOME A BETTER BOWLER OR PLAYER.

THESE MIMNIMUM CHANGES CAN BE DONE TO HAVE FLEXIBILITY IN THE TEAM FOR THE FINALS AND ALSO TO LET KNOW OTHER PLAYERS NOT TO TAKE THEIR PLACE FOR GRANTED WHATSOVER BE THEIR STATURE.

My dear "Srinivasana Ranganathana" u want experiments to prepare the team for finals. Do u think the team will reach finals with this combination? With ur combination the team will loose remaining games. What is Robin doing in this team? He needs a kick. India should bring in Sehwag in place Utthappa. Shrishant should be in replacing Munag.

NOTHING TO LOOSE:-
Suresh Raina started his career in a promosing manner but surely he faded away as you have rightly mentioned. But,since presently 3-4 players are playing only 20-20 cricket and have no consistency, Raina may also be given a chance. If he plays well, it leads to flexibility, otherwise he can be ranked along with unconsistent players like Sewhag,Munaf etc.

Selectors should think twice for next matches
by balakuntlam nagaraj on Feb 19, 2008 10:36 PM  | Hide replies

Today's victory has boosted India's courage. But the dropping of Dravid and Ganguly for onedayers is unpardonable. youth should be mixed with experience in a one day match.Srilanka is playing experienced Jayasuriya and talented spinner Muralidharan. Selectors think twice before finalising 11 member team.

Yeah sure. Please call Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Sayed Kirmani, everyone. And yes! Why not Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Ajit Wadekar, Sandip Patil, Mohinder Amarnath? How can they be not in the team? They made India win 1983 World Cup, 1971 Series against England and West Indies as well as 1975-76 series against West Indies. They should not be dropped. In fact, every Indian player should continue playing. After all, age is in one's mind. If one feels and says he is 20, then even if he is 35-40, he should be taken as a 20 year old and should be there in the team. Who are these selectors who committed the blasphemy of dropping Lakshman, Dravid and Ganguly? Who says they gave poor performance? They are so rich cricketers. How can they give 'poor' performance? Keep them in team, please.

Some months back, there was this Ajit Agarkar supporter by the name of raju....he seems to have disappeared completely!!

Which makes me think..."was it Ajit agarkar himself in the guise of raju??"

Cos the guy has not been seen in these blogs from the time Ajit Agarkar got kicked out of the team!!

Ajit Agarkar has nearly 300 wickets in one dayers, he was instrumental in drawing our last Australian series, and in the W.I. series that took place in 2006. Mythologically, Bhasmasur was the thankless demon who on getting the boon of turning to ashes the person on his head he would place his hand, wanted to do so to Lord Shiva himself. He was also very foolish and was therefore tricked into placing his hand on his own head. You have shown both the qualities. You have been thankless to a really good player, and you have also shown yourself to be foolish by ignoring Agarkar's contribution to Indian victory causes.

Dear Sachin,

I place my apologies on behalf of all those who write bad about u on these columns. You were a great player and u still are and don't you think the time has to come for u? Please step out graciously like Gilly since you deserve such a kind of retirement as you have been a prolific batsmen during your prime and you have won lots of accolades and matches for India. We know you never played for yourself but for the nation, so sign off in a manner that befits you!

Regards and wishes,

I think he doesn't have enough money to supply gas to his Ferrari...thats why he cant retire...I think he should play No.3 or 4. Otherwise he unnecessarily create pressure on youngsters by giving his wicket cheaply..why Dhoni never speaks abt Tendulkar...but speaks more abt Yuvraj...they are sharing Deepika or what?

I am sure he will. Sadly all those who ask for sachin retirement forget that dravid and ganguly who are still playing are a year older than sachin. People have been asking for sachin retirement for the last few years. Fleming who is a couple of days older than sachin only just retired. And he isnt even as good a plyer as sachin.

Dear Indian,

Do you really think Sachin has reached saturation point? No man no. He still has some good years left in him and why should he loose out on that? If Gilchrist retired, that's his own decision and view. You have no right to tell him to step off graciously, just because some other international bloke retired. Whenever Sachin retires he still will have the greatest records in cricketing history for a very very long time. So be proud and enjoy the feel of being in the making of history. that's the least you can do, instead of writing some irrational philosophy.

Regards

Ajay

Why 5 Bowlers
by Kanwar Dinesh on Feb 19, 2008 10:02 PM  | Hide replies

The logic of playing 5 bowlers is hardly justified. it is the batting which is cracking time & again. Even after 5 regular bowlers, Yuvi is bowling. Last match was lost b'coz perhaps we were on batsman short. we almost lost this one too. Sehvag is a utility player in one-days.

Ricky ponting should be thrown out of the team as he is useless just like Sachin who hasnt made a 50 in this series. Isnt it? Shaun Pollock is one the worst players in the world n so is all south african n newzealanders n england players as they have not been able to win the world cup for their countries as some hypocrites critisizes sachin for this point. Great brain lara is also a bad cricketer who played only for money n Adam gilcrist who has been a part of 3 world cup winning teams played for charity.
