I do not see anything wrong with the way the Kanpur pitch was prepared - it is called the home advantage. Guess Mahanama, was justifying his salary and role with ICC.

Ronaldo & Dhoni
by B J on Apr 16, 2008 06:35 PM  | Hide replies

Christiano Ronaldo gave Rupees 40 lacs to Red Cross for their relief activities in Afganistan and become a Hero. Our Dhoni gave Rs.10,000 to the curator and put India in shame.

i think u r right.i think thats why our team has vrey good record at home. otherwise they suffer everytime they go outside India. winning by making deteriorating pitch is awful. it is really shame. if they have guts they cud have won at ahmedabad.

An open message to genuine cricket lovers in these blogs!!
by John Miles on Apr 16, 2008 06:32 PM  | Hide replies

There are a couple of people out here who are hell bent on destroying these rediff cricket blogs by writing inanities or faking msn chat type convos and also by blocking all relevant cricketing messages if their irrelevent crap is blocked by us!!

The stupidest part is that the moderator goes by the rule of the book and disables the report abuse....
"Mujhe pyaar chayiye" does not use abusive language but is abusive in a cricketing forum cos it is inane, stupid and highly irrelevent!!

Message to moderator is that pls don't allow some frsustrated losers to spoil the fun in these blogs...once the charm is lost, people would stop visiting these blogs and the hits will reduce!!

So, pls act by putting the IPs which indulge in such cheap timepass on "red alert" and block the IP itself!! Cos, there is one person(maybe 2) who is doing all this nonsense, obviously a mentally disturbed, extremely unemployed guy who calls himself Aishwarya Patil...do act before it is too late!!

Kanpur Pitch
by Viswanathan on Apr 16, 2008 06:31 PM  | Hide replies

It is, in my opinion, Dhoni's foolishness to reward the curator with Rs 10000/- Did Djhoni know that Kumble will not be playing and he wanted to win the match as he will lead the side and talked to the curator 4/5 days beforehand.
How ever I am not convinced by the match referee's report saying that it was a substandard pitch. When he was a player, and depending only on Murali for wickets and victory, has not SriLanka prepared pitches suiting Murali? Do SA and Australia prepare pitches suiting India or Pakistan to assist their spinners?
The scores in the first innings was not much of difference excepting the contribution made by sreesanth and Ishant. SA failed more by lack of application rather than anything else.

Doctored pitches
by Parag Hede on Apr 16, 2008 06:28 PM  | Hide replies

I fully agree with ICC referee Mahanama for his pitch report to the parent body. After the advent of "Neutral Umpires",i always felt that to keep the spirit of the game intact, there is a need for "Neutral Curators".ICC can select the best curators from top 5 test playing nations and can very well make a Elite Curators Group who will be assigned the task of making pitches worldwide.Like neutral umpires, they should not be allowed to attend their home pitches. However, for the onedayers the home groundsman can be allowed to take care of the local pitches where the result is more or less certain.

This is a foolish idea to give more power to ICC which always works for whites. If ICC is given power they will select pitch suitable only to Ausies/ SA/ England maybe with full green top. Cricket is not only with fast bowlers but a mixture with spin and the host always gets the advantage whether it is AUS/ NZ/ India or SA. Unfortunately the Srilankan and West Indian Umpires and referees are sometimes worse chamchas than whites themselves. See Buckner the great.

Home team advantage
by krishna kumar on Apr 16, 2008 06:26 PM

I for once is against the decision of match referee. What is the point of having a home and away series. Are Aussie are questioned to prepare bouncy wicket, or England to prepare a green wicket. Enough of crying home team get the advantage. Why was there no ho ha for the 2nd test match, even that got over in 3 days. Just because SA won%u2026 I am a strong believer home team has the right to prepare wicket that suite their game. Visiting team accept it and stop crying%u2026
