Kanpur pitch comes under ICC scanner
by Nirpinder Singh on Apr 16, 2008 05:56 PM

Times have changed. The same thing happened in the past when India had yet to produce a good fast bowler (i.e. pre Kapil Dev). Those were the days when the various International Cricket Associations were poorly off for funds. Therefore unkempt pitches did not invite comment. In today's time when the BCCI has enough money to water the pitch with mineral water if it so chooses to leave the pitch uncared for invites comment. Mr. Dhoni made sure that the attention of the World was drawn towards the pitch by giving the curator a cash reward.

all the three pitches involved in the recent series should be under scanner.
one for producing a docile pitch and two underprepared pitches without any kind of standards, just like our politicians.

Good pitch definition
by Kaushik Basu on Apr 16, 2008 05:47 PM  | Hide replies

What is a poor pitch and what is a good pitch? Do you think Channai pitch was good where it was a batting paradise? Do you think Ahmedabad pitch was good where the ball was flying the first day? Why are we always blaming ourselves no one complains if the pitch is fiery, to them it is true pitch, then why complain if it is a real turner? I think it is seriously needed to redefine the concepts of cricket. This definition of pitches happens to be from pre historic era, where spin bowlers were only in support role and the batsman were not well equipped to handle them. The pitches were prepared to assist fast bowling and only under prepared wickets used to have vicious turns and because there was no concept of pitches being covered therefore as the days passed, the pitches started to disintegrate because the weather used to have a toll. The things have changed with India and Sri Lanka coming into fore in spin department and pitches are deliberately made to suite spin, hence the definition of sporting wickets needed to be changed. Also the pitches do not disintegrate that often now because it is well preserved by covers and all. I therefore do not have any complaints against Mahanama as he has done what the rule book says.

If you do not have complaints against Mahanama, how do you explain he didn't report the Ahmedabad pitch?
There certainly is a reason to have complaints against him.

That is what I explained, the current definition of pitches are such that a green top is not or rather can not be complained, whereas a square turner can.

We always cry about European Refrees biased agst sub continent nations. Here even a Sub Continent Referee is biased agst us. I think India should strive to increase its presence in Umpiring Panel and Panel Of Referees. Can BCCI take some effort to improve this area.
Moreover this pitch supported both spinners-Our Strength and Pacers-their Strength
