The article was published on September 26 morning and Modi announced the award to Pathan bros in the evening. Anyways, still the writer seems to me a big IDIOT.

10 lakhs for a spectator, while farmers in Mahrashtra continue to commit suicide.
This is India.
In a pitiable display of mediocrity's intolerance towards excellence, media is trying to make a villain of a politician who is not joining the perverse game of splashing public money.

A cash price for RP Singh who really deserved it could be understood but for agarkar who just sat enjoying free cokes and eatables. Not even able to understand where does the question arises for agarkar deserving it?

But I am happy to report that fortunately for India and India's muslims, India doesnt have 100 Narendra Modis.

Not required
by Indoamerican on Sep 26, 2007 07:13 PM

It is not required to shower money when win and abuse when loose. What we need is consistency in our attitute. Just enjoy the Team Indian win of the trophy. In what way things going to change if one individual gets or doesnt gets the prize. Irfan has all blessings for his splendid performances. Please dont forget the way we behaved with various players family and property when we lost in the world cup. Also dont judge Modi or anybodies capabilities based on these kind of silly things.

in a state where farmer suicides are daily occurances despite being a strong state leader pretending to be union minister for agriculture,
such rewards are nothing less than pornographic callousness of politicians towards the ruled people.

This useless article once again proves that Modi is a different leader and have guts. I do appreciate the performance of our players, but it is absolutely not required to fall over one another to facilitate them.
Prasanna Zore, Aren%u2019t you feeling ashamed to write such an article?

Great article! Exposes the hypocrisy of these politicians. They claim they are for India. However, this exposes their bigotry.

I'm sure the Pathan Brothers don't need this reward, but it goes to show just how hollow this is. If only the players were Hindu. Then I'm sure Narendra Modi would have tried his best to show India what a nationalist (sarcastic) party they are.

Unpragmatic Journalism - Wrong issues
by Gaurav Parashar on Sep 26, 2007 06:49 PM

I think the article has only evoked the wrong issues. Lets get a few things straight:
(1) State govts are free to announce exgartia or reward for anyone they feel is deserving - hence I dont think the rewarding CMs have done anything wrong
(2) Yes, it is public money and wasted - but that applies to a lot of other mal-spedning as well on several more meaningless projects
(3) Gujarat CM also has the right to decide if he wants to give a reward and how he wants to do it. No one can force him to reward a player or anyone. If it were only 'obvious reasons' then TN CM can also be called communal by the same logic. Fact is, this event doesnt prove any of them is communal
(4) We are an assimilative country where all people have become part of one great nation - it will be better to debate this reward thing keeping religion aside
(5) Our stadia and sport facilties are in pathetic shape. It might be a better idea for the BCCI and state govts to put in part of this reward money to building new stadia and improving infrastructure.
(6) Having said that, several of our players (RP, Rohit, Joginder, etc.) come from poor backgrounds - some reward money will go a long way in improving their life and family. Maybe this reward shd have been on need merit basis
(7) Hockey- its a great sport but not as commercialized as cricket... it will get its due in coming years - just ask IHF to behave like BCCI and get private sponsorship
