I think new captain sud have controlled aggressiveness and sud be able to understand the condition quite well and sud be able to take quick dicisions, for that he sud have experience. and I think at present time Ganguly wud be the best choice for the selectors, and Yuvraj as Vice-Captain. By this time Yuvraj can be prepared for future captain.

no, ganguly cant be a captain, he is older now and will be sceptical about his batting, which will impact his captaincy. I think, either Laxman or Tendulkar should mantle the captaincy..

yes ur right Jeevan,VVS is the best choice for ODI captain..BCCI have to bring back Laxman for oneday & test.
It is bad move to make Dhoni One day captain, If selector made him captain he can not play more than one year, after one year he will go out of Indian team and this is going to be a big loss for indian cricket, so please selector don't make him captain, this is sure if he the captain for australia series india is going to loss this series by 7-0. Everybody know he is lappori batsman.
At the moment one men who is certainly looking as one day captain, the name of that man is Yuvraj Singh he has best attitude which is required for captain, so selectors please go with Yuvraj Singh.

I agree with you Naveen. Dhoni should not be burdened with captaincy. Let him play his natural game. He is an asset to our team in the long run. If he is made captain, he would end up losing the captaincy as well as a place from the eleven.Gangully is the best choice for one day as well as test versions of the game at least for two to three years. WC is far away and we will have ample time to ponder over the issue in between. Hope widom prevails upon our selectors.

I know ganguly is good captain but at the moment I think he is struggling with bat although he is making fities but wastign losts of balls, everybody know India is going to loss this series, and if this happens in ganguly;s captaincy he will loss his place as a bats too from indian team, so don't make a old player to bali ka bakara.

Mr. Naveen Are you an Indian?? I do not know why a lot of us beleive that we cannot win Australia. Have a strong Heart. And Facts do not always matter. We did win the 1983 World Cup. We were in 2003 Finals against all Odds. Cant you speak something positive for your own team ?

My Heart love India and Indian, but please I don't talk with heart I always talk with mind, every indian know that India can't defeat australia at least in one day cricket. We can defeat australia one or two matches but we can't win hole series against them. Its a truth and we had to accept this.

Is it not the mark of leadership? That 10 people are ready to "serve" him?

They all tens are not most intellegent person on india.
On field tactics comprise only 20% of Indian captaincy.Beyond on-field strategies, Indian captain has to: -fight the BCCI -Deal with murky politics and opaque selection process -Hold together players from virtually 8 countries (rather regions) -fight white umpires -fight the ICC and the match referees -deal with the media -deal with brokers and bookies (indirectly the underworld) -be resilient against public reactions who literally ask for the head after every dot ball
That's mostly true about any good captain that emerged out of the subcontinent-he has to be a streetfighter and a survivor. Take Ranatunga...Take Imran...That way, till Dhoni comes to speed there is only one who has the above qualities - Sourav Chandidas Ganguly..

Well said Indian cricket is far beyond the cricket field!!! Every one knows that there is too much of politics ,regioinalism and Gangu was able to surmount all these problem for bringing pride to the nation for the timr he was Captain of India, despite all the problems absolutely correctly mentioned by you. Indians are highly & strongly regional in thinking and have strong biases. However my Pakistani freind who is a very ardent follower of the game ,openly accepts that Gangu has been a great leader & Captain who has mentored many talented players like Sehwag, Yuvi, Zaheer, Bhajji, Kaif & Pathan. He says that Gangu was captain who built team based on merit and supported these players to the hilt. In the process ,he has angered earlier lobbies in BCCI .That is why he was booted out when he was just coming out of bad patch. Well,I feel that we should try to build team based on national consideration and merit. For ,this young fellow should be selected as Captain. However ,when Sachin agreed to become Vice Captain,it appeared he was being groomed for Captaincy ( with due respect to Sachin as player),This is not a progressive step exactly .

well said dip dutt,
DADA is the only option, if BCCI is serious about cricket....BCCI is working like Mumbai Cricket Association arm and not as a national body.....hence, I think Tendulkar will me made the captain......
The article is balanced and properly written.Laxman is a fine guy and with a forthcoming tour to australia he is the best bet.Who says his Test spot is in jeopardy?Against Austalia in Australia he is the best and that is what is coming up!So Laxman for Tests is the right way to go for a year or two.He is also a fine leader. One one day,20-20 formats best is to stick with Dhoni.I feel Yuvraj will be better but his tantrums and attitude to work make him unsuitable. So it is Dhoni if his batting does not go away as threatened.
RE:Re:Captain for the future......
by dip dutt on Sep 18, 2007 08:44 AM
Guys -stop romanticizing and wipe off the rust from your memories..Laxman averaged 17 against Australia in 2004-2005 home series. Shane Warne repeatedly foxed him with his flippers.
I felt the article did highlight some very good points. The analysis was very much accurate. Laxman is definetly the man they call as "ajatashatru" maybe the only man in the entire team...but how gud will he come when it is to hold his place in the squad is to be seen. Not questioning his ability as a batsman, but as a fielder, being the youngest senior he has the worst fielding woes in the team and also suffers from inconsistency and low confidence from the BCCI and selectors who are undecided to keep him unless its either a foriegn tour or against AUS/SA. Some hard questions need to be answered by Pawar and his men, Vengi included...
The reason Yuvraj is not in the test team is because Laxman takes his place. Like Agarkar, he too has been given his chances. It's time we looked forward and ensured that Yuvraj gets a chance to play tsts regularly.
The test team should be captained by Dada and ODIs by Dhoni-at least till the end of the Australian tour of 2009.

have you even seen yuvraj play test cricket. he is terrible. He cannot last for more than one session in test cricket. Laxman has not taken his place. He has started playing for India when yuvraj was still in high school.
