Money to Cricketers
by amit sethi on Oct 27, 2007 02:17 PM  | Hide replies

Hockey and Cricket cannot be compared.
How many people actually watch hockey. Therefore, the state did not earn anything out of a hockey match.
In case of Cricket, thousand of crores change hands from the advertisers to the tv channels. Which envolves Crores of rupees earned by the state exchequer in terms of service tax.
if the state is willing to share some amount of this money with the person who are responsible for creating this wealth, i don't think anybody should object to it.
HOckey and other sports boys may have to wait until they grab the attention of the nation (and hence the advertisers)
It's a simple economics

Sheer Absurdity
by J T on Oct 27, 2007 12:31 PM  | Hide replies

Too much of money being spent in the form of Cash/Kind for no big deal or achievement. The common public is going to be rewarded nothing except loose money (by watching cricket). I doubt whether any guys shone in hockey or any other sports would have gained at least 1/10th of the above.

Cricket is the only game in India, in which our players performed a bit well compared to any other sport. So they deserve this, but the prize money is too much... hmmm

You can spend your time by watching hockey if you feel that watching cricket is waste of money and time.

i think dhoni these days is moving a bit too fast, first let him prove his worth at the international level.ofcourse he is the skipper but he should realise in wat situations he was handed the mantle to lead the team.an accademy kind of thing suites the likes of dravids and tendulkars atleast for the time being.anyways we r with u dhoni........

Why look at everything with scepticism or negativity? Who says only Dravid or Tendulkar should start cricket academy? Why don't you understand that Dhoni, hailing from a backward state, a non-metro, non-cosmopolitan atmosphere is trying to use whatever charisma he has, to start a cricket academy in Jharkhand, not for his own fame or occupation, but for the benefit of budding and prospective talents from such a small, rural, tribal place?

If we cannot appreciate the good intentions and actions of people, let us atleast refrain from being critical or sarcastic!

exactly our big wigs have earned money thru games and lot more money advertisements. but none of them encouraged sports in india, instead they started restaurants, dhabas, malls, etc. So you should support Dhoni for his move.

Whos benefit?
by OMB on Oct 27, 2007 11:25 AM

The gifting of 5 lakh rupees and toyota car is laudable but but you sense that it is done by CM just for political mileage. Actually this award has benefitted CM and no one else. Dhoni is a rich man and doesnt need cash prize or car. Felicitation alone with a title would be real prize.

Lets see what happens after the Australia tour
by CricFan01 on Oct 27, 2007 10:40 AM  | Hide replies

If Dhoni is made test captain then he will surely have difficult time in Australia.
The Australians are known to target the opposition the captain to dent the confidence of the team and dont expect it to be very different this time. Dont think Dhoni will survive in test team for long. Time will tell
