Just about 3-4 months back it looked like we've found our opening pair for test but it's no where now. I always felt Dinesh Karthik is not a natural choice for an opener. All the three innings so far, he caught out in the slips. I think he's not the long term answer for opening. Due to this opening slot, he lost out his keeping to Dhoni, who tremendously improved in his glvoe work behind the stumps. I think this tour will be end of Dinesh Karthik's tenure, at least in this series as we have Gambhir and Sehwag cooling off their heels. I feel sorry for Dinesh Karthik. He showed a lot of guts but he's short of batting skills. I strongly believe there wont be one more chance for him to prove in this test match at least. Before the start of this test series, it was either Ganguly or Laxman, now it is Karthik.
tendulkar should have played the line of the ball.even if he was not picking kaneria,he could have carried on if he had played him of the pitch or with a straight bat.he also could have employed the sweep shot.all you have to do against the spinners on this pitch is to defend the balls pitched on a good length and wait for the balls which are a little short.you can work the short balls of the pitch playing on the backfoot, this being a slow pitch.using the feet against the spinners would also be a good idea.as then the bowlers would tend to bowl a little short.players playing of the backfoot and using their wrists well would perform well on this pitch.

I think part of it was over confidence and partly becasue he was too eager to get to his 100 as quick as possible...... he didn't pick that googly at all... other he played perfectly the way you said...sweeps, blocks...and hit short balls..

Easy to say while watching on TV, isn't it... Why don't you coach SRT on his batting styles and the way he should play? He might get a few more centuries thanks to you...
(That was sarcasm... in essence, what I meant was: Just shut up and watch the cricket!)

Sachin thrills because he's mortal. Enjoy him for what he is. Actually speaking his cricket is not copybook technique - far from it. Lara is more copybook technique than SRT. Compare the footwork of these batsmen and it comes out real clear. Sachin is an instinct player and it's incredible what he's achieved thru sheer talent. Those drives look majestic because of the minimal footwork. But those drives also get him out a lot again due to lack of footwork. Just enjoy the genius for what he's achieved inspite of his big flaws both in the mind and in technique. He could have hit a few more centuries or won a few more games for India. The best part about Sachin is the amount of respect and love he and his brand of cricket has genereted for Indians and Indian cricket by admiring public worldwide!

"..being a slow pitch.using the feet against the spinners would also be a good idea.as then the bowlers would tend to bowl a little short.players playing of the backfoot and using their wrists well would perform well on this pitch.."
Why would you use wrists for a short (or created short) ball? Shouldn't you use your timing and either pull or cut?
Biswa - the point is - if you do not know what you are dishing, do not let the world know how stupid and BS you are. Stop your bullshit bingo now.
RE:tendulkar the great
by biswa pal on Dec 01, 2007 01:59 AM
achuta, you fool,i am not talking about long hops.you can pull spinners if they are long hops.playing of the backfoot you can play a forceful shot using the wrists which would be less risky.also, see todays highlights and you would find out how many balls have been pulled of the spinners.wristy players like laxman, saeed anwar, jaffer have been successful at the eden gardens.

hi biswa, i never know that india has great cricketers like you who can teach sachin how to bat or what he shud have done!!!!!!!!! sachin is the only player whose wicket is so priceless even for the best bowlers in the world to proclaim and you please reserve your expertise to train several useless players who are in the team. Eating sandwich and writing thru this column is easier for useless fellows who cant contribute anything worthwhile in life and you are also one of those idiots. In india there are several stupids like you - so you dont worry about company.
The difference between PAk and India is astronomical at this time. Inida can easily score 700 runs against this PAK team. The demolition should be complete within four days even if Yonus and Yosuf click.
India's real opponent is AUS. India is definitely the favorite going into AUS. AUS has the weakest team in last five years while India has never been better. India in its current form is capable of whitewashing AUS.

would U care to explain why India lost to Aussies in INDIA by 2-4(would have been 2-5 if not for rain). That team was more or less same as what they are going to get when they go to australia in a month.

'India in its current form is capable of whitewashing AUS'.comment is laughable.

you certainly will have the last laugh.because you will wake up and find that you were dreaming.
our bench strength, unlike pakistan is really looks good...pak dont even have a repalcement for someone like Akmal...i think he is having worse series than what Parthiv had down under. You cannot reply on one fast bowler so much that you want to get him in the team even if he is 70% fit.
In contrast... We have 3 to 4 batting replacements who have already shown lot of promise in the limited opporunities they have got. Uthhappa, Gambhir, Sharma...not to mention Yuvraj singh.
Same in fast bowling department. Even if we dont have our first 2-3 choice fast bowlers (zaheer, sreesanth, RP)...our confidence will not be dented..we have someone like Munaf, pathan, agarkar who could step in..
perhaps same cannot be said about our spin department...take kumble and bhaji out..and suddenly we may look hapless... Yes we have Powar and Chawala, but although they may look promising they are yet to prove in the big stage. But then again how can these guys prove unless they get enough chances...and this is where i think we have missed a trick. We have not done enough to groom quality spinners....
RE:....
by Aurijit Sarkar on Dec 01, 2007 03:11 AM
definitely would be interesting to watch sachin bowl his leg spinners on a wearing 3rd - 5th day eden gardens pitch. i don't know why, but i love watching sachin bowl his leg breaks on spinning tracks more than i like his batting! :)
U read it right..jaffer got no talent. Paki bowlers bowled loose balls to this guy..he made most out of it..i think i wud bring in shewag and gambhir instead of karthik and jaffer...Jaffer is good only for Ranji...
RE:Jaffer no Talent

For your kind information Sir...Jaffer has scored centuries against all the teams against whom he has played a Test!

by Vasantgopal on Dec 01, 2007 01:00 AM
And Dinesh K has been most successful this year, just the last 3 innings have been bad. But he is a long term prospect for tests.

Also just so as everyone knows...this i suspect has gone unnoticed...Jaffer is the 3rd highest scorer this year.

He has ammased 718 already...he is behind Jacques Kallis (1125) and Kevin Pietersen (881) so far.

jaffer has performed very well.still got something to prove on fast wickets.i hope he does well for india's sake.
On January 28, 2003, Mumbai needed 127 to beat Himachal Pradesh in a Ranji Trophy match when Wasim Jaffer received news that his mother Zulekha had died. Jaffer was shattered and unsure of whether to play on the final day. Chandrakant Pandit, then coach of the Mumbai team who had suffered a similar fate, spoke to Jaffer of his experience to which Jaffer replied, "I'll do it for my team". He scored 47 off 51 balls as Mumbai won without losing a wicket. Only then did Jaffer leave to attend his mother's funeral.
