Its OK, we have 352 on scorecard, we are definitely far ahead of Pakis. May be we can win by 2/0 or even 3/0 in this series. But we should not forget this is not the Paki Team which we were supposed to face. They have lost their balling which was the backbone of Paki attack. The batting, except a few splendid performances, is also not much effective.

We at India have very good batting line, improving day by day. May be the balling also will be OK on our grounds.

What about Aussie tour? Except for Dravid & Laxman (Sachin for few occassions) other batsmen were not very comfortable on Aussie grounds earlier. Same is the case of balling. and fielding ?...... everybody knows.

Any plans with BCCI to have some ballers of international and consistent abilities? Zaheer, Pathan, Murli, Bhajji, everyone is there, no doubt but what about consistency ?

I agree with you. The weak Paki team is likely to instil a false sense of confidence in our team and players alike. I think on Australian wickets even Anil Kumble may not be as effective. Out there we would have been better served by a genuine spinner of ball but with Kumble as captain (most probably) that is not likely. India has never before toured Australia with three pacers with over 140 KMPH speed. It would be interesting to see how the Aussies perform against them on their bouncy wickets. I am optimistic as far as they are concened. I am sure our batting will come good. Many are questioning the technique of Ganguly. I suspect it is for non-cricketing reasons. Against genuine pace attack grit is as important as technique and perhaps more important. Just remember Ganguly's come back inning against Styn and the over all imapct of his return in South Africa. In my opinion Ganguly will be an asset in the Australian series.

come on guys,,dont be rude to our players, even when their performance is gr8..in the first test when we were all out below 250 in first innings,,no one said pak is weak team.if soo india should hav made 400 runs.accepted inzy is not their in their line up.u see for the past few yrs its almost the same batting line up but with inzy.now inzy is out ur seeing a lul.its inzy's gr8ness.younus,yousuf r their before n now too.if they batt really well and in gr8 form coud u say this is weak pak team??if shoaib is fit like in kotla, and on this bouncy wicket, hadnt india struggled??accepted asif is not there but tanvir is also taking wickets.in past aslo shoaib n sami r there ,even now too..soo whts the big deal ur sayingg...??australia is no1 guyss, all other teams fighting for the second place.we hav to giv credit to aussies.had he lost to pak in first test would u guys said soo??certainly not.its this illusion that ,inzy is out and u can ssee shoaib malik is not test player, so u must be saying weak team ,i dont totally agree.
australia is different ball game.bouncy tracks n all.sachin, dravid, laxman r gr8 players there and to some extent ganguly.now dhoni is there too and if we can fit yuvi in the team whoz a gr8 player on bouncy wkts, and get sehwag back ,,post a 400 total batting first, australia ,as we all know succumb to pressure.remember guyss only india showed whats pressure is all about ,to aussies...soo for mee""WELL DONE TEAM INDIA,U'R IN GR8 FORM BUT CARRY THIS TO AUSTRALI

see I also feel very happy when India wins. My point is that we should not get carried away with these victories. The basic coz is that the baloon of our pride turns bigger and bigger with these victories and then when we lose a match it bursts and bursts so bad on the players. That was the basic idea of mine, writing the message.

Dravid plays calm innings as he always does. His supports from one end definetely encourage jaffer to sail safely and moreever he laid foundation. Because of contribution now india on drive seat. I wish india could score atleast 150 before tea session & take 4 wkt by the end of day.

Dravid is a superb player. There is no question of any one criticising him. I would even call him one of the greatest Indian batsman ever. But all that is for the longer version of the game. He is a correct player and his style is not meant for slam bang games like ODI or T20 which are more like cricket carnival. Players want to get into these versions only for monetary reasons but they should remember they would be doing disservice to the nation by harbouring such ambitions. Now even Kumble is talking about coming ODI and T20. If Kumble and Dravid actually succeed in doing so, team India will come back to where it has often been, clmbing down from the present status of world champs.

Yes dear, that is the way a player should reply the critics. No Faltoo Bakwas on TV, no interviews, no hue&cry, nothing. Just splendid performance in Ranji, followed by good performance in Test.

Sure for, he has a lot of potential and can do much good than this. May be we should expect from 2nd innings and 3rd Test.

Ricky Ponting
Dinesh Karthik
by Ricky Ponting on Dec 01, 2007 06:41 AM

Karthik is not a natural opener. It doesnt come to him. I agree, he has guts to play any attack but guts only is not enough. I think, If Karthik cant fit in the middle order it's better to drop him rather than wasting his and another opener's talent. He's fair enough to open the innings but not the best in the business. I prefer Sehwag and Jaffer combination.

Jaffer at his Best.
by jamsheed abumohammed on Dec 01, 2007 06:08 AM  | Hide replies

We all know that Wasim Jaffer, a brilliant batsman of Mumbai, is run making machine in domestic cricket. He has made his mark in Test Cricket too. He was at his best at Eden Garden yesterday where he amassed a brilliant and majestic 192. All excusite shots he played showed the brilliance of Jaffer. Giving company for him was Dravid and Sachin. But it was Jaffer all the way in Eden Gardens where he virtually single handedly massacred the Pakis bowlers all over the park. His knock with 32 boundaries speak volume of the greatness of this brilliant batsman of Mumbai. India has finally found a finest opener which was longing for a long time. He proved all his critics wrong through his ealier knock at Delhi inthe First Test where he made 36 and 56 in a low scoring match. Whenever Jaffer clicked India won the match. Jaffer will continue to torment the Pakis today with a double hundred and more to create history. India will go all out to put a mammoth score so that they can avoid batting fourth and wrap up the series with 2-0 win. This is on card. India finally found some batsmen of world calibre like Wasim Jaffer to come as the best team inthe world after Australia. Its only a matter of time before India goes ahead with ratings. India should persist with Wasim Jaffer but the problem is other opener who is going through a lean patch. Murali Karthik will come out with a brilliant knock in the second innings or third test, to prove his critics wrong. India should persist with him.

Jaffer at his best.
by jamsheed abumohammed on Dec 01, 2007 05:58 AM

We all know Wasim Jaffer is a run making machine in domestic cricket, where he scored tons and tons of runs. In test cricket he showed the same brilliance at Ferozshah Kotla where he scored 36 and 56 in low scoring game. He is at his best at Eden Gardens where he single handedly massacred the Pakis along with Sachin and Dravid. More to come today after play resumes. India should persist with him in Test Cricket in the years to come as he is a solid opener. The other opener is really going through a lean patch and hope Murali Karthik will come out of the lean patch in the second innings if there is any. As the Pakis depleted pace and spin attack lack venom, it is all likely that India may post a bigger total so that they need not bat again. With Jaffer still batting with a majestic 192 and Sarav Ganguli joining the party, it is throwing of the towel situation for Pakistan at Eden Garden unless they come out with something special today. The Pakis are at fault in many departments especially in fielding with below par performance. The moral and body language of the Pakis all speak of the state of affairs of the team. They are just going through the motion and it will be no wonder if India wraps up the series with a 2-0 win at Eden Garden. This Garden, which is considered as the Lord of India, is proving lucky in as many outings as India went there winning all the time. Lets hope Jaffer will continue to torment the Pakis with a brilliant double hundred and create hbistory there.
