Useless tail enders...
by cosmopolitan desi on Nov 25, 2007 10:48 AM

So all you geniuses looking at how Misbah is exposing the tail today? WTF? If batsmen from number 7 cannot even defend and rotate a strike at test level and score atleast 10 runs each, what are we talking about beating Australia? Even McGrath stays around for an hour. Don't blame it on the eternal fall guys of Indian cricket(South Indian cricketers) for everything wrong with the team. The same Harbhajan and Zaheer scored many runs at this position in the post. If they bat stupid now, it's not Lakshman's fault.

Zahir also out. i think it should have been Laxman who drives the tail. taking a single off the first ball or last ball of the over is clearly not a clever thing to do. i do agree that his score has helped india and he played well. but the expectation from india and the team was more from him to play with the tail.

done for it... Patel too gone. it clearly is Laxman's fault. not sure why and what he was thinking exposing the tail. that too with the last ball single when Harbajan was on strike and first ball single when he was batting. Clearly not aclever thing to do.

You hit the nail on the head. He selfishly played for his 72. He made pooja to get India 90 odd for five. He request Dhoni to get out so that he can be the highest run getter. He is also responsible for Ganguly wicket.
What hopeless comment. If last three batsmen gotout without even putting an effort and this guy is critisiing the player who played well.

NOw all those frigging idiots who question Lakshman's place should shut up. How many times does he has to prove himself? If it is a South INdian player you guys are just waiting for him to fail once to drop him. If he is from North India, he is given chances for a year (sehwag,Agarkar and many more). He is a class batsman in Test Cricket and even in ODI (he is not a great fielder and doesn't bowl-thats the minus). You all have short memory. Just a month ago he perfromed in touch English conditions. Now you all want Yuvraj. There is a problem of plenty in test cricket. Yuvraj may be great but the team composition doesn't have place for him.

Its a shame if people don't have heart to bat from number 8 onwards. Its not Laksham fault when Bajji & Zaheer played sucidal strokes. They could have used their brains a bit more. Can't say same to Munaf. He is anyway brainless.

by rahul Dutt on Nov 24, 2007 08:52 AM  | Hide replies

Yuvraj should definitely figure in India's Test side but not at the expense of Laxman, but by dropping Saurav, who is basically scoring 30s and scores below 20 consistently! His fitness too is suspect.Gambhir should occupy the second opener's slot with Jaffer thereby providing the left-right combination that is much required at the top.And Pathan too should come in instead of Munaf.THAT'S the team combi for now!

Ganguly is not a complete Player
by bharath hegde on Nov 24, 2007 08:47 AM  | Hide replies

Ganguly is not a complete player. He can play only offside. Even when he is scoring, he is not fluent and looks very edgy. It is just that he labours to get a good score. Ever since bowlers got to know about his weakness, he is bounced all over off. Haven't seen a big score from Ganguly, which is not laboured in a recent few years. Time to say Ganguly Good-Bye!

Saurav is trying very hard from the time he made comeback and his effort is appreciated. He is more keen on performing but I too agree that he is not a great player in tests. May be time for Yuvi to enter his shoes. But the big question is Yuvi is not a very good test player either. Lets hope he grooms into one.

Drop Ganguly for Yuvraj and have Badrinath as reserve
by ganapathy srinivasan on Nov 24, 2007 08:10 AM  | Hide replies

Instead of questining VVS Laxman's ability every time selectors need to drop Ganguly in favour of Yuvraj. Definitely Laxman and Yuvraj are better players than ganguly in testes. Also you need to groom youngsters like badrinath by taking them in the team which will be very useful experience when sachin and dravid retires.
Remember how ganguly used to drop Kumble in favour of harbajan earlier. He would have never dreamt that one day kumble will decide his place in the team.
I think that is running in gangulys mind now which may have prompted him to praise kumble's captaincy yesterday thinking that would heal the earlier rubbings.

...always proves himself on dead pitches in India, where the ball barely reaches his hips. Who can forget his 200 vs the Aussies when he was batting like he was literally swatting flies of the ground.

The moment he steps on to a pitch where there is bounce and swing, he comes a cropper. So let's not raise up our glasses yet. He has just 100 (in a dead rubber, that too in the very last inning of the tour when India had nothing left to play for in the '99-'00 series in Aus) - barring that I don' remember any other classic knock from him. Hopefully he'll show us some of his mettle in Aus this time round on a more consistent basis.

YOu guys have short memories when it comes to South Indian players. YOu guys just want some glamorous name in your team. You will know when we tour India how much we need players like Dravid and Laxman.

Laxman made 148 in 2nd test (won by Ind) and 178 in 3rd test (drawn test) on the last Australian tour. He is much better than Yuvraj in technique and temperament required for Test matches.

Laxman is one player besides Dravid in the current team, who can be relied upon whenever India is in a spot of bother.

That tour you're talking about and the England tour that Laxman himself is referring to was devoid of class bowlers. England put up a second string pace attack that even Boycott's mom could probably play.

And as far as the last Aus tour goes, we all know what kind of pitches they had then - it was just to his liking again - not one ball went above his hips.

it doesnt matter if it is a second string and first string, stilll the batsman have to put the bat to ball and score runs.

Peole say its dead rubbers, slow pitches, but playing at different conditions is an art and this separates great from ordinary. Playin gon such slow pitches is very difficult than playing on true bouncy pitches. you have to adjust a lot and need to have more patience to play on so called dead rubbers and slow pitches.

It is really became a fashion for everybody to criticise our greats.

His Test and ODI averages are an accurate reflection of my statements - and he owes even those "not-so impressive for his class" numbers to "spurts of really high scores". Its better for a Test batsman to score many 100's and 50's and spread it out thin over many Tests than have a spike and then a string of low scores. Obviously, it explains why his place is always in question in the side. All his stats are available on espn's cricinfo site.

YoBro Please brush up your knowledge. Laxman's best average is again's Australia. And Australia was the best team in last decade. If you come up with scores like that even where Sachin, Shewag and Ganguly couldn't do then he must be a class player. And please don't support players who score against minnows. Check the stats in cricinfo if you want....
