you want to groom youngsters? but where are they in your team? so we will have 2 test captains? one in india and another in abroad?
Rajesh Chauhan has been a honest, controversy-free no-hype cricketer who paired well with another honest, controversy-free person like Kumble. Pakistn play pace better than spin...Chauhan is correct in his assessment that BCCI's Team India consider playing with 3 spinners. Since he says & thinks clearly without ghumav-phirav, he may not be erudite enough for some used to ESPN-savvy commentators.
Note how Kaneria is very much in the mix.
Chauhan, Kumble, Raju & Maninder formed the spin quartet that bamboozled visiting sides - Eng, SL etc.
Chauhan was also a clean striker of the ball. He hit 3 sixes in a match in that series which incidentally India won by an innings & 15 runs. :-)
Then, Ajit Wadekar was Captain & Kambli scored 1000 runs in 5-6 tests in 1993 timeframe. Let us not forget Navjot Sidhu who tamed England's lone spinner Ian Salisbury in pre-series 1-day matches leading England to go in with only pacers in the Test series.
Thus, Wadekar and company had strategy in place for visiting teams..just like Australia plays mind games. In early 1980s, we used to read that Australians played with 13 players on the field..even their umpires chipped in. In the 1992 tour, Kapil Dev & others used to be given out by the World champions' umpires merely if the ball went to the keeper.
Point being made - along with honesty, we had skills (always available) -importantly, strategies in place - albeit briefly..

LETS PLAY ALL FIVE SPINNERS, NO PACE NEEDED. KUMBLE HARBHAJAN MURALI KARTIK PIYUSH CHAWLA RAJESH PAWAR NOW SINCE ANIL KUMBLE IS THE CAPTAIN, NO PACERS REQUIRED IN THE TEAM. WE CAN FINISH THE TEST MATCH IN 3 DAYS.

and i liked the pin drop silence in the stadium after that six. gr8 effort in crunch situation esp in neighbouring country.
