Dinesh Kartik - 571, Sachin - 560, Sourav - 489, Rahul - 394, Dhoni - 313: these are the 5 highest test scorers of India in 2007. But where is Kartik in the team??

Gambhir (home Ground)
Dinesh Karthik
Rahul Dravid
Tendulkar
Laxman
Ganguly
Yuvraj
Pathan
Zaheer
Kumble
Harbhajan
Dhoni is not 100% fit, good also since Dinesh Karthick can open too. Third spinner place has to be shared by Yuvraj/Ganguly/Tendulkar.
By packing batting, we should bat only once in the match.

HA HA HA ... that was really funny ... Munaf - India's fastest Spinner !!!

But what about Praveen Kumar and/or Ishant Sharma? Why does an out of favour Munaf come back in again without having done anything special?

i like the team, and if pathan is not in the team then its a mistake, he should have been picked ahead of munaf.... and i agree no need to play two wicket keepers in the side...

Why no new spinners?
by Raam on Nov 21, 2007 11:53 AM  | Hide replies

It is sad that we had to go back to Murli Karthik for spin to play for India. Murli is past 30 and unpredictible. It is surprising that while India found so many pace bowlers in recent time no spinner worth mentioning could be identified. Piyush Chawla may be the only youngster who made a mark but for strange reason he is not considered after he recovered from injury. Harbhajan will be a waste against Pakistan as he does not have killing instinct in his bowling. India should find a quality spinnerto match Anil Kumble or replace him when he retires.

u r right. we need someone who can be used in future.I am also amazed that selectors didnt pick Piyush Chawla for Pakistan Series in ODI or Tests. I remembered him to bowled Kevin Peterson in ODI on England tour. Atleast he should get chance for last test against pakistan and Down Under tour.

I FEEL PITY WITH THE PLAYERS AS THEY WERE NOT REPRESENTED BY ANY SPECIFIC ORGNIZATION LIKE AUSTRIALIAN CRICKETER. INDIAN CRICKET PLAYERS ASSOCIATION SHOULD HAVE A AN ASSOCIATION WHICH SHOULD DICTATE TERMS TO BCCI THAN BCCI DICTATING TERMS TO PLAYERS. BCCI IS MAKING LOT OF MONEY FROM PLAYERS AND THEY WERE ILL TREATING THEM.

FOR EXAMPLE CAPTAIN OF EACH RANJI SIDE SHOULD BE THE MEMBER OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE ICPA. INDIAN CAPTAIN WHOEVER IT MAY BE AUTOMATICALLY BECOMES PRESIDENT OF IT. THEY SHOULD HAVE A GUIDELINES OF MERIT BASING ON PERFORMANCE OF EACH PLAYER FORM EACH TEAM. THEN FROM THEM A 30 MEMBER PROBABLES WILL BE SUBMITTED BY ICPA TO BCCI SELECTION PANEL FROM WHICH THEY SHOULD SELECT REQUIRED NUMBER OF PLAYERS FOR THE INDIAN TEAM. ICPA PLAYERS SHOULD HAVE FREEDOM TO PLAY ANY OF THE SIDE IN INDIA WITH THE CAPTAINS OF THE RESPECTIVE SIDES AGREES SO THAT REGIONAL BOARDS PLAYING WITH THEM CAN BE CONTROLLED. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO CONTROL POLITICS IN BCCI WHICH WERE AT THEIR WORST SHAPE NOW AFTER SHARAD PAWAR. WHO IS BLOODY NIRANJAN SHAW, RAJIV SHUKLA, RATNAKAR SHETTY, ETC TO BLAME A PLAYER OF SORT LIKE DILIP VENGSARKAR, VENKATAPATHY RAJU ETC. THEY DELIBERATELY CREATED A COLD WAR BETWEEN INDIAN CRICKETERS AND SELECTORS AND NOW THEY WERE PLAYING WITH THEM. VENGSARKAR SHOULD UNDERSTAND AND SHOULD SIT WITH KUMBLE TO SORT OUT THINGS. KUMBLE SACHIN,SAURAV, DRAVID, DHONI YUVRAJ BEING SENIOR PLAYERS SHOULD PLAY VITAL ROLE IN CONTROLING BCCI. THYE NEED NOT SUCCUMB TO BCCI

Do you know anything - To brush your knowledge? Rajesh chauhan was at peak when he was dropped beacuse his action came under scrutiny - level charges by DIRTY Australians. Our undly BCCI never stood up for him as Sri lankans rallied behind Murli. Result was unfamous end of a bright career. He formed a winning combination with Kumble and Raju. How many of Indians have hit a six of last ball ? It was bad we Indians never celebrate or remember his last ball six off Saqlain but remember last ball six by Miandad on Chetan Sharma. Sould BCCI have supported him...the records of Chauhan would have been something else. Never criticise anyone without knowing.

in fact, hes famous for last ball six, brilliant one handed diving catch to dismiss afridi of his own bowling in 1997 sharjah(wen england under adam hollioake won the tour), also famous for his not so recognised world famous delivery to dismiss arjuna ranatunga at mohali test in 1997(some one can recollect that delivery which spun from around the leg side of the big elephant and rattled the off stump...

I abs. agree with you. Rajesh Chauhan's career took a nosedive when BCCI did nothing to support him. Even his own state must have done very little for him. today the likes of murli, shoaib, malinga plays freely (and they must) but poor rajesh got no solace. Sheer bad luck.

Agree with you. However a small correction here. Rajesh Chauhan DIDN'T hit a Last ball six, he did hit a last OVER six, and then took a single of next ball to give strike to Robin singh.Robin singh hit the winning runs. Still Chauhan's six was NO lesser than Miandad's last ball sis.

Mr. Ranjay Tripathi, I know what I am talking about here. He played for 21 tests without much success and I think it is a long time for anyone. Many other players (who had greater talent than Rajesh Chauhan) did not get to play even few tests (Rajinder Goel, Shivalkar, VV Kumar, Naushir Mehta). So you cannot complain that he was not given enough chances. The way he is advising Harbhajan, if he had done even 20% of that in his playing days then his record in the 21 tests would have been much better. Yes he did hit a six of last over, but that itself does not make him great. FYI, check his Ranji record as well, it was nothing to speak about. I have seen him and Harbhajan from close quarters and can tell you that Harbhajan is a much better bowler than Rajesh Chauhan was, ever in his career. So him advising Harbhajan on the art of spin bowling appears like a joke. Perhaps if someone like EAS Prasanna or Bedi advise Harbhajan then we can understand.

ICL should be promoted
by Subhasish Roy on Nov 21, 2007 11:43 AM  | Hide replies

Rightly said, we indeed have many talented players in this hugely populated country. If ICL is hunting those talents and giving them the opportunity to play in a larger platform alongside some of the greatest players in world cricket then why is BCCI and ICC is opposing them? All cricket lovers across the country wants some good and competitive cricket for their entertainment. The talented players, who has taken cricket as their career wants some exposure. I think, we citizens of India should now put our voices together for the benifit of Indian cricket.

True, no one knows why BCCI dont want ICL to progress.
BCCI is headed by crooks..Dirty politicians, mafia and wealthy politicians, who are making merry at expense of cricket. They dont want anybody to challenge their monopoly. They dont want to share team India nmae..we call team India, because presently through a sustem, we are selecting one Team from India...but all this is a private affair..nothing to do with Govt. In fact it is just team BCCI.

Accurate Comments about Harbhajan
by anuj kumar gahlaut on Nov 21, 2007 11:42 AM

Mr Chuahan has commently accurately on Harbhajan. lately bhajji is not doing or unable to performa in a manner he was once capabler of. at prestnt he is a very flat bowler with no variations. in my opinion, Murli kathik must be prefferred over bhajji for the second spinner slot for his variations. 2 spinners are enough on indian wickets.

What is the point?
by CricFan01 on Nov 21, 2007 11:40 AM  | Hide replies

What does Rajesh Chauhan mean when he says that Kumble being captain will bowl majority of overs? Does he imply that Kumble is selfish? Rajesh Chauhan is advising Harbhajan on how to bowl, what did he do in the 21 tests and 35 ODIs? His record speaks for itself that he was a mediocre bowler himself.
Tests 21
Innings 34
Wickets 47
Best 4/48
Average 39.51

ODIs 35
Innings 34
Wickets 29
Best 3/29
Average 41.93
Economy 4.46

Compare this with Harbhajan's record
Tests 57
Innings 106
Wickets 238
Best 8/84
Best Match 15/217
Average 29.86

ODI
Matches 161
Innings 156
Wickets 181
Best 5/31
Average 33.46
Economy 4.18

In every respect Harbhajan is much better than Rajesh Chauhan even after playing 57 tests and 161 ODIs and this guy is telling him how to bowl. What a joke.

India is a democratic country where everybody has right to criticise anybody. To criticise anybody u do not need to have any talent urself, u just need a mouth or pen or keyboard. When people who scored much less runs or never played any competitive cricket can criticise players who have scored more than 10000 runs like, Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly then Chauhan also has right to criticise Harbhajan.
