Players opting out
by Great Maratha on Jul 08, 2007 07:05 PM

Left might have demanded that if Ganguly is dropped, Rahul and Sachin should also be dropped. That might have compelled Sharad Pawar to drop all the three. Similarly Mayavati might have influenced the selection of Kaif and Irfan

You are absolutely biased by selecting Agarkar. He is a waste for twenties. Munaf will be fit by the start of the tournament. Who is Praveen Kumar?

If a player opts out by his own wish it can be attributed to his personal reasons. Yes even he can be given rest for the series. But when a syndicate of players do it its incorrect. These 3 top players have discussed amongst themselves and decided not to play . Suppose Tomorrow 10 players may form a syndicate and refuse to play for a series. How correct they would be???

How does it matter to you? It appears that you want Ganguly. Is it not. The title of this article clearly says Rahul and Sachin have opted out. It means Ganguly is forced to drop off. The inside story is this. Left demanded that if Ganguly is dropped, Rahul and Sachin should also be dropped. That is the bottom line my dear.

It is a known fact that the selectors were going to pick the youngsters just to save thier self esteem they opted out of the selection voluntarily.

Likes of dravid and ganguly can never fit in 20 /20.
Tendulkar is an aged lion he might click i geuss he himself isnt confident so he manged to put his head down.
yuvaraj should be given the captaincy ill even agree dhoni.
But for heaven sake leave shewag out of this he might be in the playing eleven just because of his hanf eye co ordination.
any lets hope the youngsters shine.
but our domestic cricket dosent promise to produce good quality 20/20 team.

Lets give a chance to Sehwag..if he manages 30-40 quickly he can take the match away.

He has scored 30 odd runs consistently which is far less for ODIs so kicked off.

Captaincy shud be Kaif or Yuvraj. ( Kaif was u-19 captain with yuvraj as member)

Sehwag did not perform as bad as Ganguly in his worst day.
He had taken quality bowlers apart on his day.
His fielding is far better than Ganguly.
We should support him in his bad phase.

The three big guns, tendulkjar, dravid and ganguly opted out of the 20-20 world cup is because they are afraid of public reaction. They know when india lost the world cup 2007, they lost their endorsment, their image were shattered, they were criticized and they were on the verge of getting droped. These three big guns know, unless there is australia, india wont win the world, cup, so lets not play to avoid any agony and maintain their image and contract and status. And they should have understand themseleves, that these three big players, will never get a chance to play 2011 world cup, so these could have been last chance to play in another format world cup, but they are more worried about public reaction

Public, please recognize their intention, they are more worried about themselves. After all world cup is world cup.. it is big tournament.

20-20 is not like a regular WC(50 overs). You don't need somebody to build up an innings and indeed you won't have overs also to build the innings. 20-20 is for younsters and newcomers who can play without inhibitions. It is also for someone with quick reflexes and you can't expect it from players above 32 or 33.Ganguly's poor fielding and running between the wickets will be exposed in 20-20 and Dravid's orthodox batting style will not suit this format. Only Sachin is suitable for this format because of his batting style, fielding and bowling. If only he is selected and the other two were dropped there will be again lot of backlash. With the busy season ahead, with tougher battles to come, the trio wisely decided to skip the tournament. Anyhow 20-20 cannot be compared to regular WC. It is an ideal situation for the board to assess the youngsters and also to find out suitable captain for future.
So dno't criticise the trio for what have done with good intentions

Sachin and Saurav were not selected for the ODIs against Bagladesh. As for the test matches are concerned, we are yet to find players who can replace Sachin and Dravid. We need experienced players in test matches to guide the younsters.
