Ganguly brought attitude in the team. For the first time India looked like a team with fire in the belly of the players. I know some of the team India players personally having worked with them on many advertising films. They always said how they looked upto him and how he was ever supportive and had a presence in the dressing room. Nobody could ever leave the hotel without his permission and nobody dared skip a practise session unless there was a health ground. He was a man and not a sissy who is afraid to impose a simple follow on.
There is no doubt about the fact that Ganguly is the best Captain that India has ever seen. the way he led from the front taking all critism and backing the right players was never seen in Indian cricket before. He never favoured players from his state or his religion or his caste. he was a true reformist of the Indian cricket

After the last & recent passed World-cup-failure, under the leadership of Dravid(who is not at all elligible to be the Indian-captain), we are not to discuss about the Indian Team's betterment.
The poisonous polytical-strength is still keeping Dravid in the Team(even after Greg, even after the failure of World-cup-games, without Saurav). The Great Sachin is playing with Saurav, better than he was in World-Cup(withoit Saurav) under Dravid & Greg. We would better forget Dravid, alongwith the bustard Greg(why used the mean-purchased-traitor-racist-Dravid as the weapon) to kill the Indian Teram's winning stamina & spirit(to remove the possible obstructions, against Australlia, from India). Dhoni, Yubraj Singh, Gambhir, Kumble, Shewag, Lakhsmann, etc. all would be trained(keeping rest to Dravid, for the few, say for four-minimum years), fot the Indian-team-captain(playing with Saurav & Sachin). iT IS THE CRIMINALL-POLYTICAL-dRAVID & gREG, TRIED TO KILL the all Indian-master-talents & spirits, to make the Indian-Team, winning in the World-Cup. Indian Team is doing better , at the departure of Greg. But main problem is Dravid(which is more problem than Greg, to make Indian Teram destroyed). Indian Management would know, now, that it is criminal-Dravid's acriminal-ambition to kill the rivall-Indian-Talents, to see himself, Dravid as the Indian Team Captain, irrespective of the continuous, consistent repetitive defeats in the International-Matches. I ain't no Bengali either. I am a thoroughbred 'Pune'ite, who like millions otherS - am an ardent fan of Maharashtrians - be it Sunil Gavaskar or Sachin Tendulkar. But Saurav Ganguly.. I must say - his greatness lies beyond the domain of even Sachin. He has been a master batsman, a leader par excellence and a symbol of guts and gumption. I, in spite of being from Maharashtra - but being a true cricketing enthusiast, have no doubts that in the true sense of being a 'Captain' - (keep the win - loss - statistics aside) find Saurav Ganguly as one of the the BEST captains that not only India.. but the cricketing World has ever produced.
I aint no Bengali but lemme point out a few things ...
Going by the logic of the author, Waugh and Vaughan have had better teams than Ganguly so they were expected to win.
When Ganguly took charge,, the team was down with Match Fixing allegations and a 3-0 defeat to Australia. He was the one who encouraged people like Sehwag, Harbhajan, Yuvraj, Kaif and Pathan. So, GANGULY HAD BUILT THE TEAM - HE DIDNT HAVE IT ON A PLATTER!
He was the one Who won the Champions Trophy for India, which No other Captain did!

The facts written in the column are true in every account, can you point out any particular distortion in facts.there is no use in supporting anything with a blank attitude,we respect your bengali sentiments as you people are emotionally a very charged lot but is it viable to blindly support anything which has a BONG connection. Wake up mr. majumdar, sourav had got a huge support from dravid, laxman, harbajan, kumble,yuvraj and tendulkar during his tenure but when it was his turn to return the favour to Dravid he proved to be a complete failure.The world cup debacle is a fine example of how he indulged in groupism and things likewise.I totally support rediff for publishing such a fruitful article. Hats off to the rediff team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In your very first line you say "it is the bengalis who actually deal in regionalism Mr. majumdar". How can you make such a statement about a race, dear Amit? You may accuse me, or some other Chatterjee, Bose, Sen or Roy; but how can you generalize it to "bengali"s!!! I am tired of this sick attitude. I have nothing against Punjabis, Marathis, Gujratis; but I seriously detest people like you, who categorize. You are the one who need to wake up, dear Amit!
And if you dont find this article bised, I dont blame you. Simple statistics say Ganguly is the best captain India ever had, and the indian team knows what is missing in it now.
I can point out all the discrepencies in the article. Tell me if you want me to do so, I will try to find time from my schedule, as this is a long job :)

when even shivsena detaches from BJP to support Pratibha Patil, just because she is Marathi, when Jai Maharashtra is a popular slogan in hindi movies, when tamils refuse to learn hindi even in 60 years, it is bengalees who are repeatedly told about regionalism. and Mr. Pansari, i don't know which state you come from, but let me know - i will show what type of regionalism your state does.

Pl read what malakpet has written.Ganguli as a captain set the terms on equal foot with Austrellian and Englishman.He has replied with guts to Steeve and Hussain.Think when he took over from azhar with match fixing scandal hanging on him,think who made harbhajan see eye toe with opponents.He after Sunil Gavaskar never got bogged befor white skin players.
i think sourab is lucky to have virendar and yuvraj when they both failed india lost because of them saurab won many mantches and u know sehwag is out of indian team and yuvraj is alo not at the peak so india failing to achieve good results.And in test arena both dravid and VVS played fabulous knocks.I think when azhar and kapil played they were not technically well quipped when compared to current team.In the sense we can in the current team VVS can be good cvaptain give him only 20 matches as captain he can produce greAT RESULTS.
