Saw a few of his innings in the archives telecast of Star Sports recently. Looked extremely good against Illingworth and Underwood in the England series of 1971.
Your contributions to Indian cricket will be remembered. RIP
while mourning the untimely demise of dilip sardesai, i was touched and satisfied to see the unanimity in the comments by all viewers regarding his great human qualities. i join them 100%. may God bless his soul!!
Dilip Sardesai played like a gentleman whent cricket was still a gentleman's game. He played like a sportsman when it was a game. He retired before it no longer remained a game but a spectacle. Mr. Sardesai we raise a cap to you

I pray that his soul rests in peace. He had a good innings.
Dilip Sardesai played at a time when cricket had not lost its virginity, I mean succumbed to commercialisation. The players were just happy to play for India and that reward was good enough. Despite heavy odds including meagre rewards, they stuck with their tasks and managed victories as a team effort. All players contributed and there were no prima donnas. The selectors did their jobs without fear or favour, at least better than now. Their selections were received well and nobody tried to rake up motives that sullied the game and led to demoralisation and cynicism.
Now some of our stars have become bigger than the game and seem to select themselves. The selectors do not have the guts to take hard decisions and that shows in the outlook of the team. Sardesai was also disappointed at this turn.
Sardesai did India proud with his solid efforts and may have found it difficult to adjust to rank commercialtion that exists today, especially in the Indian cricket scene.
Players like Dilip Sardesai who was honest and unbiased never make it to BCCI or the selection committee. This is mainly responsible for India's cricket debacle.
I was an ardent admirer of his batting and 'Never Say Die' attitude of Dilip Sardesai. Needless to say that with these traits, he was the back-bone of the Indian team's middle-order. None can forget the stellar role played by him in our series victory in West Indies and his great contributions with "RUNS WHEN MOST NEEDED BY THE TEAM". Because of the mercurial burst into the scene of Sunil Gavaskar in that tour, Dilip's exploits did not get the recognition due to them. I was really fortunate to follow his batting treats closely. I pray the Almighty to "REST THE GREAT SOUL IN ABSOLUTE PEACE".

I do agree with the sentiment. Even I had great admiration for his role in the WI tour of 1971.
Only one thing to reply. This "soul resting in peace" is unindian. We pray that let the departed soul get the sadgati.
