Those who followed the game at that time new how good a cricketer he was. He was like a rock. Sad to see some people writing ill informed things about him.

Dilip Sardesai is also the father of Rajdeep Sardesai the owner of CNN IBN.
A great player and a true sportsman scored runs when the test matches played were few and fare between...but never got the due recognition like many good crickters played for India

What kind of question is that? One word to describe him: "a legend" of his time when Cricket was still a gentlemen's game unlike it is today. He was one of my favourite cricket player. It was under his influence that Sunil Gavaskar became what he became. Dilip played no small role in dismantling the mighty Westindies in 1971 series AND in grooming the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.

So Whats Your Point? Are you saying nothing should have been reported? Or are think all sports should be reported with the same importance? if so I agree with you..otherwise..you are an idiot. Also Rediff did not make a big deal of it anyway..so what are you complaining about? It also tells us about you...you are one of those who knows nothing abt the history of the game but wants to vomit an opinion on everything thats on the web...Dilip Sardesai was indeed a decent player who served the country well.

No no .. I meant to say that he was a great cricketer and present day generation should think twice before putting in irresponsible posts.

Well .. you all are idiots. Read history of cricket. It is something like this - Sachin did play like a king and got the man of the series. But Yuvaraj helped big time in winning these 2 games.
Go back 36 years and India's first historic win. It was similar. Gavaskar played big time but it was Mr Sardesai who helped big time with Gavaskar to help India win those matches.

Dilip Sardesai has accomplished wnogh to stand on his own - just go ask any Westindies bolwer who bowled to him in the 1971 series!

hey PS ...chup kar ...bake jaa raha hai..if u have some personal problem with Rajdeep ..deal with that....dont use this board for that...This is abt Dilip's demise..
In the 1971 West Indies series Dilip Sardesai scored a swash buckling 212 that included a six breaking the commentator's box. Such a wonderful innings it was though the match ended in a draw. Actually Sardesai was a surprise choice in the team as he had done so badly in the eralier home series against Australia. He justifid his selection so well. Sorry to hear that he is no more.

The innings came at crucial stage when India was down at 75/5
after his innings of 212 India scored 387 in the first innings!

I bet Ajit Wadekar will never forget the gives of Sardesai.
