Does BCCI truly make efforts to encourage MASS for Cricket
by adityesh rathore on Jan 23, 2007 02:30 PM

Its BCCI responsibilty that whatever event occurs is widely viewed by the MASS from where many of our Cricketers come. Before accepting the Package BCCI should take in view how many budding cricketers and fans would be viewing the event.Does the package offerd will cover Urban India only or Rural as well from where many good sportsperson has come up.Anyway the Broadcasting Govt. then into scene because its solely BCCI rights i suppose whom to give the rights as per their rules. So in their rulebook they should make a note for the MASS viewing as it has the largest viewership and this has made BCCI the richest Board. So they should not forget their duty to viewers.

we are not allowing the market forces to decide the price-ultimately the right price will be discoverd but one has to have patience-bcci can ask prasar bharati to better the highest bid and its upto them to show their patriotism

advice to private broadcasters
by Slim Shaddy on Jan 23, 2007 02:30 PM

The Best thing is that, for matches played in India, no private broadcaster should bid...because in the end DD WILL telecast the match ... by hook or crook....
Also, the BCCI will then become broke , then only will it understand the meaning of CONTRACT

What is BCCI doing ??
by Venkatraman Kannan on Jan 23, 2007 02:29 PM

We all can share our views and counter views in favour of Numbus or Prashar Bharti. In the first place the seller of the rights - the Great BCCI - needs to be accountable for this mess, instead BCCI is merely watching the fight between Numbus and Prashar Bharti

if BCCI is intersted in developing the sports...why cant they start their own channel exclusively for cricket..and give free to all the cricket loving people in india and abroad..they will get more revenue when compared to tenders..

When our money crazy BCCI always wants to earn more & more why it would take the risk of investing in cricket channel. No channels should bid for television rights then only BCCI will be forced to start a channel

BCCI should also be braught into the picture
by Sarsij Nayanam on Jan 23, 2007 02:28 PM

Why should Nimbus share the feed???? I really didn't understand this point. Afterall its Nimbus which has paid such a huge amount for the telecast rights.
This Govt is just promoting one thing......its popularity.
I can very well co-relate this case with the reservations in educational institutions. The motive of the govt in both the cases have been the same......give free lunches to some in order to gain popularity.

I think BCCI should get into the picture and show some authority over the issue. BCCI should be able to induce some pressure over govt that no one can take away the rights just like that.

Blaim the BCCI
by Ravi Hodlur on Jan 23, 2007 02:24 PM  | Hide replies

The major culpit for creating this problem is the BCCI. They are suppose to take care of the Indian viewers first, majority of money they earn is because of the home viewers. If BCCI thinks that it is autonomous body, then the Indian cricked team should be rename as "BCCI Team", just like we have European football clubs! in this case they will be free to do what ever they wish.

The prasar bharati has right to protect the general public interests. Ideally, It should have accepted "dirty feed" & kept quiet. Nimbus has totall right on the feed.

Nimbus turns Cumulus
by IndianNationalist on Jan 23, 2007 02:22 PM

My cable operator refused to carry Neo because Nimbus was asking Rs65 per connection X 4 months. Which cablewalla can afford such high charges and that too pay advance from his own pocket. Get rich quick policy of Nimbus will prove to be its undoing. Who asked them to bid astronomical amounts and at whos cost. It seems nimbus was trying to collect all the money in this series only.It serves Nimbus right. Hope they go bankrupt soon enough.

nimbus/ prasar bharti row
by neeraj agrawal on Jan 23, 2007 02:14 PM  | Hide replies

I am dismayed by the fact that more and more indians are looking at the finacial angle of any deal without understanding a simple fact that any deal which involves exclusion of cricket loving population to watch its national team perform in infructous.I am surprised to observe that more and more Indians are inclined towards defending commercial angle of any deal. This is a very sad state of affairs in India when people have enough logic to justify the black out the telecast any National game. long live India

What is SAD here is talk of public Interest.. Pornography may be of also of Public Interest so it must also be shown on National Television and that too without making payments to Porn Starts.. as they are serving Public Interest..

SAD also is public apathy over commercializaion and looking everything from one's OWN BUTTERED Eye..

I am glad to find that we are so excited about the aspect of commercial exploitation that the difference between international match played by Indian team and Pornogrraphy is not visible. Perhaps these are the fruits of liberalisation when we try to give justification to fulfill our commercial goals.

PRAVEEN BABU
BCCI and Govt. the culprits
by PRAVEEN BABU on Jan 23, 2007 02:13 PM

I think the system has to be even more transparent and when a broadcaster approaches for the bid they should be qualified for the same only if

1. they have an agreed up on viewership across the country.
2. they dont cost the viewer much more than what we pays for the cable TV operator regularly

etc and etc

they should anticipate the problem of lack of viewership at the time of bid itself and not now. this is ridiculous from Govt's part to ask for the telecast rights without even agreein gto the encryption funda which is quite feasible. Govt. is playing the big boss in an arrogant manner, if a private body is investing money on something the Govt. should think about it when the agreement comes in to place by thinking of the possible consequences.

i'm glad that i can see the match now. but isnt happy with the stupid, idiotic off the screen affirs which made this happen
