Pl keep away from Cricket & concentrate on reading GB's books. When there are crores of people who like to see cricket why should they be treated as fools?

This is so pathetic...
by rohan fernandes on Jan 23, 2007 02:09 PM  | Hide replies

This is indeed very pathetic. A govt entity (BCCI) sells the telecast rights (exclusive) to a private Co.( Nimbus) for a huge amount. Then another Govt Entity (Prasar Bharati) intervenes and goes to aother Govt Entity (High Court) for getting telecast Rights.
It is but obvious that this is a syndicate within all the Government Entities to make money out of this.
All such private companies should unite and fight this battle...because this has happened with all... ESPN-STAR, Ten Sports, Zee Sports, Sony - SETMAX and now NEO.
If such is the case.... why buy the rights... let Prasar Bharathi spend some dough.
No doubt the matches are a matter of national Interest.... but that is the last thing on government's mind when it comes to money matters.

Please get your facts right--- BCCI is not a government body. HIGH Court is a constitutional body.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE FACT QUOTED. WE ARE NOT ARGUING WHETHER BCCI IS GOVT BODY OR NOT..BUT POINT MADE BY ROHAN FERNANDES IS JUSTIFIABLE. HOW CAN BCCI AWARD MATCH TO SOMEONE WHO IS ONLY WILLING TO TELECAT AT EXTRA COST. BCCI IS A PRIVATE BODY BUT IS FUNDED BY OUR MONEY OUR PEOPLE MONEY..AS A INDIAN CITIZEN I HAVE RIGHT TO SEE A MATCH TEAM INDIA PLAYS. BBCI ATLEAST HEREAFTER SHOULD CONSIDER THIS, WE CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS MATCHES JUST BEACUSE BBCI IS MAKING MONEY.

Prasar Bharti & BCCI are to be blamed...
by Abhijit Mhatre on Jan 23, 2007 02:01 PM  | Hide replies

Its really shame on part of Prasar Bharti to corner Nimbus in allowing telecast of cricket matches on DD.
They should have guts( & money of course!)to bid for the telecast rights of cricket matches.
Morever,BCCI should also so it to that they award the rights considering that these matches will be watched by millions of cricket fans.& who are Neo Sports???Many of us don't even have this channel on our TV sets??
Since world cup is fast approaching, the Govt. better make proper arrangements so that cricket fans across India are not deprived of watching some good cricket!

UPA govt's high handedness
by umang saraf on Jan 23, 2007 02:00 PM

i think this is the high handedness of the upa governement for making it mandatory for companies to share feed with DD. Nimbus is a business concern who had bid for the rights by paying such a high royalty and now being asked to share its feed with DD is just not a business sense. Look at the quality provided by DD and that of other operators, there is a vast difference in both of them.

this is simply not done on the Govt part which on one side is attracting foreign investments and on the other side does not provide them with level playing field.

Nimbus Turns Cumulus
by IndianNationalist on Jan 23, 2007 01:57 PM  | Hide replies

My cable operator refused to carry Neo because Nimbus was asking Rs65 per connection X 4 months. Which cablewalla can afford such high charges and that too pay advance from his own pocket. It seems nimbus was trying to collect all the money in this series only.

It serves Nimbus right. Hope they go bankrupt soon enough.

Govt Play Dirty
by Raman Chugh on Jan 23, 2007 01:52 PM

If the BCCI is a govt. body then they shouldnt be allowed NOT to give the live feed to DD. If Nimbus has paid such a hefty amt then its their right over the telecast exclusively & if DD wats the live feed they they better pay for it.

NIMBUS/Prasar Bharti Row
by satyen hora on Jan 23, 2007 01:51 PM

It is rediculous for Prasar Bharti to ask NIMBUS to provide it for a peice of the cake it could not pay for. If the pride of the country was so much of a concern then why did it not bid for the matches. Prasar Bharti always steps in whenever international cricket matches held in the country are telecast by private channels. The last time a similar situation arose with TEN Sports. Be a sport Prasar Bharti donot flex your muscles. The I&B minister's remarks sown on TV Channels are in bad taste and smack of 'Dadagiri'.

Better DD sits with a begging bowl!
by rakesh jinsi on Jan 23, 2007 01:51 PM

It is better DD sits on the road with a begging bowl. There is no rationale behind this demand and expectation. And this excuse that DD is the only channel watched by the poor who shud have access to cricket matches.Govt forgets that there are many more basic needs which common man needs and cannot afford.Does the Govt provide all such things free? All shud understand that the telecast rights is one of the main revenues of BCCI.If they don't have this then they will not be able to spend. If that happens soon Cricket will be like other sports in India. The country has to make a choice.Nothing comes free!
