Guys....

I think we are too harsh on the Indian crciket team...
Yes their performance is not up to the mark but when the world cup is coming up, we all have to support the team...

There is a common theme among the all the chain haters on this thread. They are simply, Sachin haters. While cricket fans watch cricket and analyze pure stats and also factor in the intangibles, the people on this list are like the folks that caused National shame by disrupting lost matches at stadiums.

I think your readers are hanging on to your criticisms of Sachin despite the facts below:-

2003 - Cricket World cup - Sachin was the reason we went to the finals. I am using only recent statistics rather than give validity to some ignorant statement of 'never having seen Sachin deliver for India'.

2003 - 2006 :- Look at the number of games he has played to Injuries and analyze his performance within. He has not been the worst batmen in any of those series, despite being either in injury pain or headed out with recuperation. He has not delivered to OUR EXPECTATION OF HIM, period.

Bad Decisions :- Whether you believe it or not, the clout of Indian money in the game today gets everybody, within the cricket establishment who is not an Indian, upset . Let's stop blaming Asad Rauf alone. I see multiple decisions go wrong against India, match refrees award harsher decisions et al. If I am an umpire, I have a beef with India and I would love to see them fail, who am I more likely to give bad decisions against ? SRT/ Dravid or Dinesh Karthik (nothing against the young guy) ?

All this is in support of cool rational thought rather than the jingoistic call to throw out the stars and start with a new fresh crop with Ganguly in lead( WC2007 is not in India).

You have been a responsible media voice in Cricket for many years. I see where you are coming from as well as the rationale behind the article, but do you honestly agree with most of the people on this thread ?

Retirement of Sachin
by Dipanjan Mitra on Jan 10, 2007 10:06 PM

High time Sachin should retire from the big stage. He has served the nation for a long time, but offlate his form is simply atrocious..Yes, he is one of the all time greats but he is losing his image due to such poor form.

let them play
by virender sharma on Jan 10, 2007 10:03 PM

now a days i hearing so much things here and there.. somebody is saying that sehwag should change the way of playing and sachin should not. i want to tell that it easy to say from outside. even for our former cricketer or called experts on TV NEWS channels. They always try to keep their view above the limitation of players. they are also human being. So leave this thing to the selectors and make them answerable for the performance and dont criticise the player as everyone try his best, noone want to loose.

Indian cricket team is balanced well but the wining combination and spirit is not their. even thou we have:

1) Best Coach they can get advice from Greg.
2) Best Sr Playing Legend (Tendulkar)(Batting)
3) Best Long Innings player THE WALL.
4) Best Bowling School (MRF)Graduated Bowlers
5) Best and wealthy Crciket board in the world.
6) One of the Highest playing wicket taker Kumble.
7) Best 2 Good wicket keepers who can Bat and keep after many years.

We have all the best but,On match day turn out to be Worst.

INDIAN CRICKET PLAYERS THINK BIG, In terms of endosements and End of yr payments.

Once In the team they dont THINK BIG in terms of Playing techniques and sticking to basics.

One more claw in the contract should be added, saying out of 10 matches the team should win min of 7 matches. (70%).

If not no match fee will go to board.Atleast the saved match fees can be used to build the young players.

As anyway this players get paid well through endosements.

TENDULKAR
by Bashyam Kalyanaraman on Jan 10, 2007 09:40 PM

Why does not somebody tell tendulkar that his playing days are over.As kapildev pointed out he has never won any match for india. What is surprising during the whole tour was that gavaskar and shastri never criticised tendulkar for his abject failure.partisan attitude carried to the extremes

Tendulkar
by Murty Akella on Jan 10, 2007 09:26 PM

I agree with the analysis on Sachin, the only way he can get out of woods is to bat like himself, enjoy the game, not to fear about failure, see how jayasurya and ponting are playing, it would be a big bonus, if he performs any where near to his class, try for some time like this, if he can not succeed, which I am sure he wouldn't, say quits, that would fit his class.

Indian Cricket Fans have to content themselves with however the team plays.
by Salim Sehzada on Jan 10, 2007 09:18 PM

Its not logical on our part to dscuss this at all and leave it on its own.. like Hockey. We do not know the background of the selection. It seems the team knows very well that they are not playing for the nation's pride. Cricket in india is being played as a profit making organization, rather as a sport. Wait.. after sometimes there will be a listing in the stock exchange !! No one in the team is answerable to us.. hence why discuss this ?
