regarding SACHIN
by Shriram on Jan 11, 2007 09:46 AM

guys,
i do accept you guys have the right to express your opinion but for a batsman who taught us what cricket means, for a batsman who took the word cricket to each and every household, i don't think it's not fair for us to injure him so badly with words when he is already fighting with his injuries.

Talking about the mindset, it is a well known fact that india has has problems especially in the filnal day of a test in the past 1 or 2 years, both SRT and Rahul wanted not to lose wickets in the crucial post lunch session, maybe they became a bit of over-cautious but then they are just humanbeings, a bunch of emotions like us,so please if not support them atleast don't pinch them with the words.

As far as sachin is concerned, he is like a PHOENIX - he will burn himself to ashes and again comeback flying from the ashes....and history does repeat itself...so is he.....

''Most Successful'' Indian side??? R u kiddin...
by Shiva Krishna on Jan 11, 2007 08:07 AM

A msg by some Sharad Tyagi claimed this was the best Indian side to have visited SA. I guess his conclusion is based on the first test victory. The real fact is that this was the worst SA side we were playing against. U look at their performances and there was nothing special in any one of them. The batsmen were struggling and the bowlers toiled hard many times. But yet we managed to lose. What does it say. A batsmen of Sachin's caliber plays like a lame duck against some ordinary spinner, what do u expect.
The bottomline is it was more of an Indian defeat than SA victory. This was the most ordinary south african side and we had the best chance to win a series in SA but our batting performances were more ordinary to say the least.
Good work by Sreesanth, Zaheer, Ganguly and Kaarthik. Others were all a let down - Sachin, Dravid, Sehwag in particular and that's 3 most important batsmen of our line up. How can anyone rate this as the "Most Successful".

Hey SACHIN

Please retire before you loose all your respect.
LEARN from the greats of Lara who is 37, does not whine about his body and he is still a match winner.

WHEN have you last won a match for your country??

Guys like you lack cricketing sense. A few months back you wanted Sourav's blood and now it's sachin's turn. In last 15 years so many batsmen have come and gone but even after that Sourav and Sachin are highest scorers in the just concluded series (Yes Sachin is the 2nd highest scorer of SA series!!!). I really pity your short sightedness.

Tendulkar is finished
by Jeevan on Jan 11, 2007 07:03 AM

Tendulkar is finished, in cricketing teams.
Not because of injuries etc, but because he did not give only priority to cricket. Remember his advertisements, hotel business, sxotic cars etc.
Look at Shane Warne and Ponting they are the commited cricketers, hence are successful.
Anyway, Indian cricket sucks.

Naga k
sack seniors
by Naga k on Jan 11, 2007 06:34 AM

A good article. Finally these articles are of no use unless we change the selection committee. this committee should be political free, i know most of the sachin tendulkar fans may disagree with me. Remember the words of sachin "do not expect the old game from me" then why should he be in the team? how many times sehwag failed? If we could have given chances to juniors then they might have proved themselves. What is the use of these seniors? Most of the INDIANS are bunking colleges, schools and offices for watching cricket match. More number of people are having sleepless nights. Some of them are showing their angriness on their home, office etc., all because of this underperform SENIORS. We cant say that the fault is on coach. What coach will do to this SENIORS. Can we say that coach is success in making dinesh karthik as a succesfull player? No, that is dinesh karthik responsibility and also fearness that if he could not play well then he will not be selected for the next match. But for our seniors there is no responsibility. They felt that this is their GOVERNMENT JOB. The best example for the seniors is GANGULY. He has the fear that if couldn't play well he will not be selected for other matches. As far as dravid is concerned he is a good player but not A CAPTAIN to lead indian team.

ATLEAST THIS TIME OUR HIGHER OFFICIALS RECRUIT TALENTED CRICKETERS.

A 'Chappal' for Greg!
by on Jan 11, 2007 05:18 AM

I am a believer in the conspiracy theorey that Greg Chappell is an implant by the Australian cricket to take the Indian team to its current slump. Given the potential of the Indian cricket team (on paper) we are the only real threat for the Australians' inquest at the World Cup and so the theory goes...
The first remedy to give India any hopes in April is to kick Chappell out. We need to have someone like Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath, etc who will be genuinely interested in the performance of the team and not the politics or the glamour behind being India's coach.
The problem is at the top... with the coach, the selectors and the Captain. Get some fresh blood and we have a chance at a serious crack at the World Cup. As they say, the bottle neck is always at the top of the bottle!

Find out the problem in the team
by Manoj on Jan 11, 2007 04:39 AM

Its a common human behaviour to praise someone in their good times and then cruelly bash them in their bad times. Rather than concentrating on individuals, (identifying that individuals makes up a team) initially there should be a sincere effort from team management and BCCI to realise what went wrong and how to rectify it. There can be reasons for players not performing. Identify those and try to rectify them first. I don't believe current team line-up is so bad. With the right approach management can instill a fresh breath into the team. I also strongly believe the team should be given coaching in latest methods and trainings should be made mandatory for the team members and also banning them from appearing too much in ads etc. The magic is keep practicing.

Debasis Basu
Greg Chappel and Dravid
by Debasis Basu on Jan 11, 2007 12:56 AM

I dont want this to be a Sourav vs Dravid article but would like to voice some opinion about leadership. You either have leadership qualities or you don't. And Rahul is a case in point. Please remember that in management studies one thing that is constantly stressed in leadership programs is that High performing individuals are not high performing leaders and Rahul Dravid aptly proves that.

I am a little surprised by the fact that given the number of Sourav baiters on the Net and media I have seen few acknowledge their shotr sightedness and apologize and give the bloke a standing ovation.

I do agree with some note in the chain that the first thing we should do is to sack Greg immediately, have someone like Gavasker/Shastri take the reins and reinstate Sourav as Captain to steer the Indian team to 2007.
