Nishith Dalia
Indian cricket culture a disgrace !!!!!!
by Nishith Dalia on Jan 10, 2007 11:14 PM

Sachin/Shewag/Kaif/Kumble/laxman are to me the players that are simply dragging on and on for no reason. And the worst part is our cricket boards inability to find their replacement.

I have been observing our cricket culture for sometime now. It wonders me, why are changes so hard to bring out about in Indian cricket. Why can't the board get over the fact that its over for some of the current players and its time to move on. For example look at laxman, how many times has he been on the verge of being sacked when he hits a 60 or 100 and the management gets convinced not to sack him.

Players themselves are a big disgrace. They themselves should evaluate their performance and must step down. The team as a whole clearly lacks that spirit. It looks so disconnected to me.

Just look at our grass root level infrastructure. Its more than pathetic. Is there going to be a time when the whole country starts to discuss about the ranji trophy and the local players.

When is for god sake the petty politics going to end in our cricket culture. Look at sachin, the guy has made so much of money for himself why does he need to drag himself.

To me our cricket culture is going backwards rather than moving forwards. So people stop wasting so much of your productive time just to see the disgraceful performance put up by our team.

I have gone thru almost all teh analysis made by all of u. what i want to take your focus to a point that as far as Sachin Tendulkar is concerned, he is nowdays suffering from a minor problem & he needs our support to get rid of it. he is not able to put up consistent & big innings as he is known for. He is lacking in confidence. Consecutive injury problem has made him nervous about his batting style. But, still if we see teh SA tour he made 2 half centuries & 44,which cannot be discarded before making him the culprit of SA tour debacle. the main culprits are Greg Chappell, Rahul Dravid, Wasim Jaffer & our Selection Panel. Starting fromthe selection committee, there were some potential players available for SA tour like Robin Uthappa, Shikhar Dhawan etc as a opener. Sehwag was playing horribly & suffering from his form. so, he would have rested after ODI's & tried one of these. Secondly, there was no sense of sending Irfan Pathan back, if this was to be done, it would have been done before test match started. Thirdly, selection committee is reluctant to give chance to the young guns instead of out of form batsmen/bowler of our current team. About Greg Chappell & Rahul Dravid, we all know about what happened in the last tests, regarding selection of Virender Sehwag on other alternatives available. Selection of munaf patel was also wrong one. this shows that how these people are handling the work & responibility. this is really painful. as far as dravid's performance is concerned, it was bad, but we should not forget that every batsmen cannot play consistently, he sometimes suffers from bad form. But, Selection fo virendra sehwag was realy put question marks on the eligibility crieteria set up by the committee for selection. If he struggling with his batting, he would have asked to play domestic matches to regain his form & would have rested. I am a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar. His performance hasnt satisfied me. but still, if he is not performing well, that doesnt mean that his innings for cricket is over. He has dominated world cricket for almost 12 years, which is a more than an herculian task. Saching will be more worried about his form than us. I firmly believe that he will find his form soon & gift us this world cup before he retires. He was,is & will be a batting mystero.

We cannot allow anyone to rest on past glory. I agree that he WAS a great batsman, but since 2001, he is a pale shadow and a very average batsman(except for WC2003). We can even tolerate average batsman, the way we have tolerated Kaif & Laxman, but he is negative in his mindset and that changes the team's approach as well. So he shud be dropped from Tests, and played in ODI as a bowler abd part time batsman. If he does not clisk even in that role, he should be dropped.

leave sharjah semi finals and finals Versus australia.aPArt from that match tell me a match where sachin was responsible for a win. His blistering centuries against windies, newzealand,
zimbabwe, england are lollipos. Leave Indian soil, has he made successive triumphs against
australia, South africa and even sri lanka. He
cant play mc grath, pollock, vaas and few more old
players . These bowlers tell him the ball and get his wicket and how is he compared as a gr8 batsman.U sound like sunil gavaskar

india's miserable tour of s.a
by anand anand on Jan 10, 2007 10:56 PM

we once again showed how to lose from winning position. from 6 for 2 ganguly helped to 100 for 3 with his positive approach.then came the GENIUS and paul harris was treated like left arm shane warne by rahul and sachin.both played rooted to the crease.that is where we lost.but captain didnot mention this in his post match report.team selection and stratagey both very poor.it is time we start looking beyond tendulkar.when the team is in trouble he never fires.he may have more runs butnever scores when the team needs

Weak in the mind
by rony roy on Jan 10, 2007 10:48 PM

Just a few suggestions which might improve the game of cricket.
1. Rahul Dravid should understand how to lead a cricket team by speaking to so many cricketing greats we have in India. No harm in learning from our wonderful seniors who have played the game gracefully.
2. Virender Sehwag was sent to open in the last test and get quick runs even after 4 failures in the ODIs at the top position. Doesn't he himself understand that he is having technical difficulties. He is too weak in the mind, confused as hell. I guess he forgets to drink his milk nowadays. Please make each player prepare an evaluation chart after the end of a match so that he may understand where he has gone wrong.
3. Well lot has been written about Sachin. Just one more thing. Forget you are the once mighty Sachin and play as a member of this team who has to perform to keep the team winning. If you can think like that I guess no one can stop you from getting motivated.
4. saurav, you have done a good jo but sometimes you get out in a very cheap and irresponsible fashion which look very immature. Try to minimise that and we will get our beloved dada back.
5. Pathan, come back soon. You are needed.

Thanks
Rony

SACK TENDULKAR
by on Jan 10, 2007 10:42 PM  | Hide replies

Its high time tendulkar voluntary retires from the game.He has nuthing more to give to the Indian cricket team,he is not playing for india but himself.I dont think he considers team india's or the countries interest.....

Look at the aussies the performing stars have themselves retired from the game to infuse new talent,i think they place the countries interest more imp than self interest and thats y they are winners.

sachin is playing only for his interest.can he justify his inclusion in the team,i hope someone will ask him that????he is more concerned abt his self interest.

sachin i hope u think for the good of the team and the country and retire...retire with grace and set an example and more so by playing so badly you are damaging your own record whi his of more importance to you than team interest.

u know wat is the reality better than all of us and i hope u dont deceive the country anymore...i think u feel that the whole country is blind to wat is happening.

well for the selectors give him one more series and if he fails be brave enough to sack him,but i feel no one in the bcci or selection committe has the balls do it,i think they prefer to be dumb and blind towards sachin.

results are counted and not reaons and sachin has failed.

guys ..!!!
aren't v getting too carried away with it ...aren't v misinterpreting sachin tendulkar's silence as his cowardiness ... c'mon guys .. he's d same man who has dun us proud on days wen v have felt like quitting our country .. he has dun us proud those days when everythin's just happening opposite to our thinking .. he's has made our evenings by his splendid performances ..he is too experienced to be told anything .. i think v shud leave it on him .. am sure he is definitely goin to have sum plans to entertain us in d world cup..
i think d problem with the indian cricket fans is that they want sachin to acheive everything that we as individuals have not been able to acheive ...guys he is just another human being .. so wat if he has batted splendidly in only a way he culd in his early years ..that was only his brilliance ....we 've got to realize the age factor ... i assure u ,as a ST fan dat he will be able tu bounce back and give us d pleasure of watchin a new , experienced sachin tendulkar which might not be as graceful & aggresive as he was earlier but with renewed vigour and totally new facet of his batting ....

Guys asking for sachin's blood have to realise that he is still the second highest run scorer in the team for this tour! There were atleast 6 proven batsmen in the team. Indian team will always embrace performers. Any performer can prove and take the place of Sachin. But where are they? We have seen 15 years of Sachin's era. We have seen many come and go. If there are truly good young players who could match sachin, then how come sachin and ganguly still ends up as the top scores??? Please stop unnecessary sachin bashing

"article. If you ask me, I would say, get rid of 'Dead Wood'and get rid of Greg Chappell. Here is what I said on 28 Nov 2006.And it holds good even today!!

Indian Cricket Here is what one should do.

1.Sack Greg Chappel as Coach immediately.
2.Appoint KAPIL DEV as coach. He may be reluctant but he would agree if the BCCI makes a sincere request by way of an appeal.
3.Get back GANGULY as Captain.Well,I am no friend of Ganguly and I had sought his scalp when he was not performing.Times have changed and under the present conditions/circumstances when the morale of the Indian Cricket team has been badly mauled & bruised;thanks to Greg Chappel the Trojan Horse, Ganguly would arrest & reverse the tide.Greg Chappel has done an excellent job in unsettling the Indian Team, which not long ago was a winning combination and a formidable force to recon, only second to the Australians;but now reduced to a third rate, nay,an eighth rate team.
4.It is time to rest Sachin Tendulkar & Virender Sehwagh and infuse new blood.
5.Get kumble to play till the world cup.
6.Retain Rahul Dravid-he is a good, cool cricketer; but no good as a Captain. GANGULY may be cocky but it is his aggression on the field that is now needed.Having said that, Ganguly also needs to perform and perform well. He has to lead from the front, like RICKY PONTING."

this is the weirdest weirdest set of replies i have ever seen...

ganguly was given 3 years before he was kicked out ... one good series and he should captain again!!!...

Kapil dev as coach, i remember the man crying in mastermind india about some weird stuff....on what basis was the ball handed to Kapil and not someone like Robin Singh ( say) who had a proven record of being an excellen coach with the U-19's

India was a formidable force not too long ago. They won 18 ODI's on a trot. They set a new record in doing so.

Shewag is playing reckless, i agree that he should be shown the door just to get him back to his silken touch... Drop tendulkar

1996 Highest scorer, 1999 Hampered by a bereavement, 2003, Man of the series and highest scorer . He performs every WC....dropping him is mad

Lets believe in our team, if we dont, who will
