Nimbus !!!
by S K Rakhunathan on Feb 15, 2007 07:44 PM

Nimbus Lawyers are not smart when they entered the arragment with BCCI.They ought to have included a clause to meet such type of eventuality.Past experience have clearly shown that DD and I&B Minisrty don't play fair.

well done govt. !!
by Bisheshwar Mishra on Feb 15, 2007 07:19 PM

Cricket is passion in India, hence whether it is free or paid channel accessibility for evey one should be there. Most of the cable guys are not providing the Neo Sports as this is the new channel, hence govt.'s ordinance will help all of us. Govt. has acted in national interest, though we can argue further on whether the interference will send wrong signals to investor, the answer is yes, but they all will understand. Afterall we are the best investment bet. Forget others let win vizag and world cup. Mishra

Blame it on BCCI
by Senthil Kumar on Feb 15, 2007 07:17 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI only care for highest bidder.
They don't seem to care how much % of
indian population would be able to see
matches.

If BCCI wants all telecast rights let
the players play in the name of BCCI.
Why do they claim that they are playing
for India???

Call it BCCI Vs. Sri Lanka matches
don't call it India Vs. SriLanka

RE:Blame it on BCCI

You ignorant fools, the BCCI is going to get it share of the revenue irrespective of whether DD Sports airs the match or Cable TV channels air them (Neo, ESPN, etc.) The reason why government has ordered them to share feeds with DD is not because they want the coverage to reach the rural masses where only DD is usually available, but because it would bring in ads to DD. (read MONEY). Big time. Its using its governmental authority of extract revenue from private broadcasters for a sugar-coated "welfare of rural Indians" reason.

Instead of expanding cheaper cable TV services even in the rural segment, they're bringing in digital quality CAS and DTH systems, which even urban masses are unwilling to switch to, in a number of cases.

If the government would've cared about sharing matters of national interest, hockey would've been at least in the spotlight by now. But they won't share hockey rights like they do cricket, because hockey games wont pull in one-tenth as much revenue.

U r mistaken dear senthil. The team is not an Indian team, neither the players represent the nation. They are called Team India (a team FROM India and not OF India) - a very very thin line divides it. BCCI is not a govt. appointed body. Its a subsidiary of ICC (as claimed by the bosses of BCCI). This is how it happens.

Where is Neo Sports??
by Billa on Feb 15, 2007 07:16 PM

The neo sports channel was removed from CAS and DTH network right before the West Indies series staretd...if channels keep disappearing just before crucial events; govt is right in taking them to court...

What about the Supreme Court?
by BlurBlur on Feb 15, 2007 06:40 PM  | Hide replies

Seems like we have gone back to the dark days when a cruel ruler would have the judiciary in their back-pocket and would make rules that suit them.
As if the gov. wasnt bad enough in making a case of this, the SC went the extra mile to give the decision in favour of the gov. 2 questions...
a. Where does this leave all of us if we ever feel unfairly treated by the gov. and wish to appeal the courts for justice?

b. Does this send the right message to investors out there who feels India is the right destination to invest?

Irrelevant. It has become a fashion for our citizens to criticise our own country. In this case I shall give you an example that's worth. - An American said - why u people have elected & selected PV Narasimha rao. He looks so ugly. And the Indian replied - We dont need a Bill Clinton who looks handsome and flirts with every pretty lady around him. But we need a person with brain and not the looks and hence selected PV Narasimha rao.
Dear Raj... let us not degrade our own country. Thanks n regards

bcci is to be blamed
by Manwinder boparai on Feb 15, 2007 06:32 PM

Atlast we in small town where there is no neo-sports we will able to view the match live. But I think in all this episode bcci and doordarshan has to be blamed. This happens everytime there is home series. Doordarshan always wake up at last time and starts shouting. Bcci is also very well aware of it but they don't care about it.

The height of privatization
by baskaran k on Feb 15, 2007 06:27 PM

I think the governments will atleast now realize how full fledged privatization would affect the nation.....
See how the government is begging for live signal....
What a fate to the nation due to lack of proactive measures

we could now realize how India became a slave colony of British
