what is the problem if u can't see the live telecast??? does the quality of your life decrease? do you lose financially? do you lose your peace of mind? if you have such a big problem, why don't you take the cable connection to watch the match and pay fro your pocket? neo sport bid for the rights to telecast...amongst other players too...they won...contract is awarded to them...doodarshan, instead of resorting to arm-twisting, back door tactics and below the belt tactics, they should have negotiated with neo as business.
also, the govt was so quick to issue this ordinance when so many other issues are more important...inflation, price rise of basic vegetables, water, sanitation, starvation deaths, murders etc...double standards...

why cant all these things be sorted out before the series
by balaji gururajan on Feb 15, 2007 04:17 PM  | Hide replies

I am forced to think as a cricket fan that all these legal battles are preplanned. I guess Nimbus playes this dirty game knowing that it will take some time for the court to give any ruling and the whole series would be finished. and that is exactly what has happened. Now its very clear that we viewers are the loser and we have absolutely no power and do nothing to the whims and fancies of broadcasters. Why cant BCCI give the rights to DD sports if they really care about the people of India? I guess the best answer would be to withdraw the rights given to nimbus and give it to DD sports. but these officials do these things only for money, though the BCCI is the richest board in the whole world.

Next time any legal battle happens some one should move the court to stay the whole series till the disputes are settled. Any lawyers listening?

Please tell why DD can't bid for rights for telecast? Some body buys the rights and DD wants to share free of cost? Please do one thing, you work let some else take the salary on behalf of you......

Bull shit! This is the age of professionalism. By the way, the rights of telecast of live matches are given only after open bidding & it goes to the techno-commercial qualified bid. If you don't know Mr. Balaji then before giving comments in public please go and make your fundas clear.

Doordarshan should telecast without advertisements
by on Feb 15, 2007 04:13 PM  | Hide replies

Matches in India should be telecast by Doordarshan without advertisement or else Doordarshan should win while bidding and telecast with adv.

I am not agreed with you.
Doordarshan is an national channel and it have to show all the programme for every state of india. Many of programmes are not profitable even lossy like "Indian dance festival","indian cultural programes",and other programmes. While private broadcoster will show only cricket why not "kabaddi",why not asian games.Doordarshan can not buy so expensive right.
So private channel must be bound to share thier live feed to Doordarshan at the time of bid.
And every body knows private channels will still buy even with this condition.....

Hey then whats wrong with taking a feed along with advertisements. Why does DD have to insert its own advertisements ? How cool ! Nimbus pays millions for telecast rights. DD makes millions and free feed to go with it!

good game...politics everywhere
by sanoj kumar on Feb 15, 2007 04:07 PM  | Hide replies

now the gov makes mandatory for private broadcasters to share their live feed with them. now the reverse will DD share its live feed with the private broadcasters in the same way? DD is a mess and makes a mess of everything. Pls correct DD = IB ministry BCCI. If they wanted everyone in India to watch cricket DD should have bought the rights and telecast rather than blakmailing the poor private broadcasters. They had spent crores and DD gets everything without paying. Its great and happy to know that lot more people now can watch cricket with cables. but DD cannot use this reason forever to win live feeds saying its the sole broadcaster in India covering throughout...its stupid things happening with no regard to the policies and agreements signed..but the public has the last laugh....

Absolutely, if the IB ministry is so concerned about the AM JANATHA viewing the cricket, they should have intervened when BCCI floated tender. I&B ministry jolly well knows when Nimbus bagged the deal in front of public glare and arm-twisting it now with the demand for free feed. Let I&M ministry also nationalize the vast recordings that DD owns - be it old music concerts by famous singers (MS, Joshi at all) and other treasures. Sad part of the entire episode is the BCCI which in the first place sold the tele-cast rights to Nimbus is acting as a mere spectators and laughing all the way to the bank.

absolutely with you the Govt.allowed cable Tv and the the CAS and the dish. BCCI sells the rights and a private broadcaster purchaser buys it- how can the Govt.then ineterfere and say BBCI had no right to sell. If they had no right then why did they sell and let BCCI refund all the money taken from private broadcasters and make it a rule that only DD will telecast matches and end all bidding.

I completely agree. This is nothing but bullying and blackmailing. Neo Sports legally acquired the deal by paying from its own pocket. DD, inspite of its pathetic infrastructure and technology, is getting a free ride. And we call India a free country.. Wow!

Pathetic
by Anupam on Feb 15, 2007 04:06 PM

Yet another pathetic decision in the name of patriotism ! How is Nimbus going to recover the $612 million it has invested to earn telecast rights ?? Why can DD not take a feed along with advertisements from Nimbus ? If I&B ministry really cares only about the masses then why can it not take a feed along with advertisements ! UPA is taking the coutry back to the days of government control and license raj.
