Sri Lanka's Excellent Fielding and Catching made all the difference, today!
by Juzer H on Feb 12, 2007 05:41 AM

As mentioned by Mahela Jayawardene, the runs saved and catches taken by Sri Lankan fielders turned the match in their favour.
Team India desperately need good fielders in the circle and the outfield.
Any comments!

Kudos to Sri Lanka
by Vikas Sahu on Feb 12, 2007 05:36 AM

Best wishes for Sri Lanka on winning. No problem keep winning and make the job more and more diffcult for India before world cup starts. Its very obvious Indian playesr wants to cash in more and more on sponsorships before going to WC and get more money. My prediction England in the finals becoz they have played recently against the best and won. India will be back by quarter finals. Even if INdia wins now doesn't matter its the same old story.

The Rediff Sports Idiotorial team is at it again
by Pat Gross on Feb 12, 2007 04:05 AM

That's not a spelling mistake. You read it correct the first time. I am not sure if I can reserve the word 'editorial' for a position that seemingly does not exist among rediff sports journo ranks. This is the umpteenth time these so-called journaists failed to provide the details of the team batting second in their report after India lost the match.

Worst Team
by danny on Feb 12, 2007 03:53 AM  | Hide replies

This team is even worst than Bangladesh..And i can guarantee that we are gonna loose to Bangladesh in world cup..The problem is , players currently in team are more interested in money coming from different adds, instead of concentrating on cricket..Each player should be paid only INR 100.00 per match and no adds..
That will solve the problem..

Less known player like me can be included in the team. I do not charge even a single paise. It can still make no difference in the performance of the team. .... afterall no body will have any expectations out of me. Am I right?!!!!!

Would India reach Semis in WC?
by Kaushik Basu on Feb 12, 2007 03:02 AM

I seriously doubt that they would. First of all they would have to qualify for the super 8 if any upset match happens and they are defeated by Bangladesh who are in their group, then there is ample amount of chances that they might not be able to make to Super 8 for then they have to defeat SL and that too with a big margin. Further even of they make to Super 8 their they would have fight out against all the other big teams to make to last 4. I seriously doubt in their current form or at this confidence level they would be able to defeat anybody be it Australia, South Africa, England, New Zealand, West Indeas or Pakistan.

India has to seriously improve a lot metally before they take on the big guns. It still appears that the players are not there 100% mentally.

We have a winning eleven
by Mohan Kalyanasundaram on Feb 12, 2007 02:40 AM  | Hide replies

Our captain alongwith selectors and BCCI are trying to get some new cricket rules introduced at the ICC urgently. BCCI is working hard with other cricket playing nations to get this rule passed before the world-cup.

The new rule is, %u201CAny player will be allowed to play more than once in the same inning.%u201D What does this mean?

Viru Sehwag will play twice in an inning to satisfy the appetite of our board, selectors, and Rahul Dravid.
Irfan Pathan will play thrice in an inning, which means he will deliver 30 on target overs to the satisfaction of everyone listed above
Sachin Tendulkar will get to play 4 times in an inning since he is a genius and Sunil Gavaskar has blessed him to play for a few more millenniums. The more and more you get to bat, the more and more you score!
With Rahul Dravid pitching in as captain, we have one single place left in the playing eleven. That will be decided between Dhoni and Karthic since we need a wicket keeper.

Rahul Dravid (1)
Sehwag (2 times = 2 players)
Irfan Pathan (3 times = 3 players)
Tendulkar (4 times = 4 players)[he is a prodigy, he deserves more chances]
Dhoni or Karthic (1)

Total = 11 (Eleven), Anil Kumble (12th man)

Irfan will bowl 30 overs (After all he has performed in the past)
Tendulkar 10 overs
Sehwag 10 overs

Note: Sometimes, Rahul may decide to keep wickets. In that case he will bring in Anil Kumble instead of Dhonie/Karthic as another strike bowler. Since there is 3 more to be named for world-cup squad, Rahul, selectors, and BCCI want to try out the new rule more by letting Rahul, Sehwag, and Irfan play one more time.

Dravid and the Faliure are the filp sides of a coin
by Dan Lewis on Feb 12, 2007 02:15 AM

It is becoming a tradition of the Indian team to choke under the condition when they were expected to excel. I dont think neither Greg nor his puppets could ever bring that 'killing instinct' in the team. Although when they were given the responsibilities it was anticipated that they would make Indian team better. It never happened. They degraded the morale of the team parts by parts. They put one excuse for their failure and brought another one to support the previous one. The unfortunate dependability on the 'WHITE SKIN' coupled with the treacherous behavior of some desis forced India to remain oppressed in the colonial era for more than 200 years. The trend has not been grounded yet. We forget that we have ex players like Amarnath, Kapil, Gavaskar or Angshuman who could manifest better coaching tactics than the current one. By depending on them you can nationalize your team (as they are all Indians) and you can save foreign reserve. Folks, time is running out fast.

Im a Srilankan and if my country lose the game we would never post such bad comments. Only Indians has the brain to curse the team when they loose and praise when they win. Its just a game. encourage ur players even wen they loose - like rest of the world do. change ur attitude and hope for the best.
India has also given heart cheering matches.

okay he is srilankan and he is telling this to us;but is completely right about some of the pathetic losers who are always criticizing the indian team . Seriously if you cannot support the team and you have so many problems against the team , DO NOT WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS TIME on the game and leave the comments on people who do truely care about indian team.. Please support the team ahead of the world cup or for God's sake leave the team alone.

i agree with you. the main problem is we are too sentimental and have very short memory. we forget our past victories very soon and then start cursing for present losses but losing and winning are the part of game. how can someone remain at the top for once and ever. even australia loses with record runs in the fourth inning to west indies. they dont start cursing to thier players. every team has their good and bad times but we dont want bad time at all and then we claim we are the best mind in the world. we must change our attitude and try to understand that game is jut game it doesnt add much to your daily lives. there are a lot of otherthing to ponder upon but when crickets happens we no longer exist in this world. i remember when our team was winning in pakistan on one occasion celebrating our victory over pakistan and in the same day three of our heros had given their lives for india's freedom. no boty rememberd them. not even so called pseudo deshbhakta of bajrangdal and VHP goons.

Only india can lose a match it had won. the indian team is not picked on talent - those who have connections make it.

The team of 11 is a shame to the country of a billion. Look at the Aussie team and learn you idiots

Indian team is picked on talents only. But politics in Team Management make worse sometimes and you loose couple of good players out of 11.

Look at the Austalia, they are beaten in final by 8th ranked team today.

This worldcup is not meant for Australia, It will be SA or SL who will win.

I really think the players playing are talented enough only I think is lack of proper planning and motivation in the team. Which other team do you see so uncertain going into the WC even players don't know apart from maybe 5-6 who would make it to final 15. By this time usually 9-11 memebers of the teams should be automatic choise.
