Sorry Rediff!

First of all I request rediff to publish only the interviews from inspirational persons. Mongia was neither a guy who has made a great impact on Indian cricket nor he was an outstanding wicket keeper. We all as supporters of cricket watched him a lot who is very capable of shattering our expectations 98 out of 100 times. Though we understand that cricket as a game is a collective effort of the 11 folks in the team, as an individual, meaning senior cricketer it is fair to contribute atleast 20% and Mongia as a senior player never contributed to that level. Known for his good politicking and betting skills, now he has raised his views about the selection committee to explain why a player is or being dropped makes me to feel that he has discovered yet another way to create chaos off the field. In India, people do not consider the cricketers as another sports person, but as gods or even patriots (Reference article and discussion board: Love Tendulkar for what he was from Rediff). That%u2019s true to an extent. In that case, the players who cap for Great India, if not performing well they have to feel that they are letting down India not their own position in the team, huge prize money, Man of the Match awards, Commercials and BCCI. From interviews like these and other comments it is becoming obvious that such players do not feel for the goodness of the team. Instead of making their performances speak for themselves, feeling bad and expecting a justification from the selection committee even after a long period, like five years or so since quitting cricket shows the real attitude of missing something else (??????) other than cricket. If at all any one feels that they are not simply playing cricket but also representing their country, immediately they will come forward and report the selection committee that there is some unfortunate slump in their form and in order to work out that they need to play domestic cricket for a while and shall vouch to return to Team India on merit and justify their presence. Ok this sounds pragmatically impossible and probably too much to expect from anybody. On the other hand when any player gets selected to cap India do the players ask why they are selected in the team? No, it is their good, consistent performances at the domestic level speak for their selection. Just like that, when any player underpeform in a series of matches, there is no need for any justification to be given to the players, whoever it is and whatsoever their earlier performances are from the selection committee. If one feels that there is still a lot of cricket in them, prove at the domestic level and make the selectors to keep open the gates for you instead of expecting a justification or ridiculous comments about their omission. After a long time in Indian Cricket we the supporters feel that the selection committee and the board are heading in right direction to take the Indian Cricket to the next level by taking some innovative and of course, bold decisions to send even the likes of Ganguly, Sehwag, Kaif, Irfan etc. who were underperforming. So, this uninspirational guy by giving such a supposedly inspirational interview tries to stir up rumbling about the selection committee decisions. So never publish this kind of stupid interviews which infact, might push the selection committee to not perform its duty to the fullest. Rediff is doing a great job and should be known for publishing great articles, of course, not of this kind!

i am absolutely agree with you, Rediff is just comparing within india, i guess. Just go beyond and compare with Adam Gilchrist, sangakkara, etc, then you would realise that mongia was not even 50% of them in batting as well as keeping.

it is easy to sit on the sidelines and criticise a player.....tomorrow someone can come and make a professional allegation against you..shall we all believe it? Have some sympathy on a player who has given all his life of cricket...yet hasnt got the due recognition...!!

This player took bribes to play bad, who knows how many times he did that. he shouldn't be allowed to be involved in cricket anyway. he only scored one hundred anyway, that was in india.

You are one among the selfish and dull headed cricketer without any enthusiasm in batting.. when u were thr in india there were keepers like stewart, healy, parore etc who were so helpful in batting for the team ..u r not a trusted batsman liekt he above who is fit to score 50's or centuries in one day games coming down the order.. pls dont even try to tell the name of dhoni who is a complete batsman wicketkeeper unlike u ..U,deep dasgupta, ajay ratra, msk prasad, parthiv patel..no body impressed so many as dhoni has done..One simple question is.. HAVE U EVER POPPED UP IN THE TOP 20 BATSMAN LIST IN UR CAREER ? DHONI IS NO 4 IN IT FOR PAST 1 YR..

not a team player
by Shekar Pendem on Feb 02, 2007 08:00 PM

He was never a team player, rather spoils the game by his selfish batting. Just scoring some runs that are not useful for India's victory is waste.

hey everyone do u people remember that once prabhakar and mongia was dropped from the team as they both never tried to fought for an indian victory against newzealand, prabhakar played for his hundred and mongia just surrendered not even fought, was just taking singles.well that insident is enough to raise our eyebrows regarding matchfixing issues.

well they have done it in so many matches like that. So guys dont put pressure on your memory, thats my suggestion. I dont know how is he allowed to write coloumns on our current truly hardworking players like Pathan, Dhoni etc. when they have lost their right to even cal them selves as cricketers after they have got caught in match fixing.

it was not against newzealand, but the match was against west indies, Wills World Series, 1994/95, in kanpur, that was the worst batting display i have seen yet, just playing to losse the game. shame on prabhakar and mongia for that match. but at the same time u can't forget his innings (51) in sharjah against sl, his 152 (test) against aus in delhi..

it is still a paining one in my heart , how heartlessly the tail enders destroyed the match, admiiting that Tendulkar was not healthy it is one of his great mistakes in his career to rely on our tail enders, he himself shoul dhave stayed till the end

no one relies on tail enders and gets out. If the time comes, any every will loose their wicket. It is so pathetic that the tail enders could not score those runs. As cricket is a team game, every one should play for win..
