Irfan is trying too much inorder to get more ads running on tv. I think chappel spoiled him by asking him to do everything bowling, batting, fielding and may be pressing his legs after match.

Player should be able to differentiate between professional and other personal activities (doing commercial adv's).May be for irfan , he should take some advise from elders before he jump into any kind of initiatives. ANy way i felt he needs to do alot of home work before he back to wear blue jersey.

nthng wrong in a sportsperson doin ads etc. but he can't afford to loose concentration on his game. the life of a indian cricketer is gettin shorter day after day. their performance graph moves southwards from the first successful innings. sad it is though. that's what shoaib here meant, i guess
When I think of Mongia, I remember the infamous Chennai test in 1998. Tendulkar and Mongia had stitched together a partnership that was taking India to victory comfortably. All he needed to do was to be careful and take singles. Instead be took a cross-batted swipe at Akram and was caught. Tendulkar lost his cool and gifted his wicked to Saqlain. India lost by 16 runs. I dont ever remember feeing so despondent about any cricket match. From that day I lost my interest in cricket and Team India.
Mongia cost us the match. I am positive this was fixed by him and his cronies. If India had won this would have been Tendulkar's greatest innings. Even he has to share part of this blame here.

boss ..... whatever you said abt mongia mite be true, but u cant say anything about sachin. we all know he was struggling from cramps and could not carry on. the mistake he did was he believed that the lower order can finish the match. manjrekar told in an interview that he was crying his heart out in the dressing room and did not attend the presentation and collect his MoM award. even i cried the whole day, but whether india won r not, it was one of the greatest innings in the history of test cricket, closer to lara's 153* against Australia
I've read the top line news "Irfan Trying too much" He is not trying too much ... he is trying to get the form...Its not so easy to play the international match ... sometime players lose their form & confident... its bit natural among all persons... not only the sportsman...people who wrote the news better go and play cricket...u can feel the same heat like irfan... so plz stop publishing this kind of news and dont try to hurt the good players like irfan... if u want help plz engourage them.. they all are our team mates & our players...so plzzzzz dont hurt them in any way by publishing this kind of news....
I have followed the cricket at that time as well and do agree that one of the greats Mongia was behind the wickets.Dhoni is a just a kid of the block and has a lot to catch up to reach Mongia's level.Dhoni is a better batsman but as far as wicketkeeping is concerned I feel he needs a long time at nets to practice as he is average wicket keeper only nothing special.Dravid is equally good and can be a better influence then Dhoni. Dhoni is a better actor and I read a latest news from his hometown that as his car was stopped by the ppolice inspector for a check up and within 24 hrs that police chap was shunted out of that city.Miserable show ! on the part of Mr Dhoni the big shot. Anyhow I assure you if Dhoni continues with this kind of attitude problem then better we have dinesh Karthick instead Dhoni the hero of Jharkhand. Anyhow Mongia was great and will remain so for his talent behind the wickets and as a person off the field.
Yes, he was the best keeper for Indian pitches/spinners, but this guy had a poor attitude. He and Azhar were bad influence on the team. He and Prabhakar were guys with worst attitude....never team-players.

Sridhar ,I feel you have not followed the game in those days when the BCCI was totally run by our netas and bueracrats not by cricketers.Mongia was the best behind the wickets and India produced only one wicket keeper of same level Syed Kirmani. Present crop of Dhoni's have got a long way to go and they will never reach that level as the money in ads will be so much that present day Dhoni's will hardly last 2/3 years and we will have a new charlie behind the wickets. So our present wicket keeper can hit some good shots and get away with loose wicket keeping. But our India public is more keen to see Dhoni starting a motor bike on the screen than to have a player of talent like Gilcrist. We will never a Gilcrist.

I think you have we tend to only remember the positives and forget the negative points. He is undoubtedly the best keeper india ever had, but u seem to forget the attitude he carried. I still remember him smiling when India was losing a game and I also remember that slow batting he and prabhakar did without trying for a win. I believe in something called the spirit of a game, he may have had the skill but he lacked the spirit and the attitude to win. Not a player who gave 100%. Certalinly not fit to asses other players when he doesnt have a clue why he was dropped.
Please stop publishing such articles of Indian Cricketers like Mongia. Mongia is just one heck of a guy we had a live with for a decade. I hardly dream in today's world a guy like this existed. Not scoring runs, just walking in the middle when the whole crowd is expecting something from your bat, and you deliver immediately by effecting a run out of your partner. Mongia think how many times you have been involved in a run out and how many times your opponents were OUT. Rediff plz do not irritate readers by publishing these type of articles.
I read the title "irfan is trying too much"and went on to read the entire artcle.I was shocked to see that it was our former "great"Mongia blabering about bowling, batting and what not....Leave all the negative responses from the readers posted in the message board till now..one match which remains in my memory is that of Mongia refusing to sacrifice his wicket and therby effecting Azharuddin's runout in an ODI.He was given a one match suspension for this "match beating" efort. And he was clearly involved in match fixing. It is shocking that such people are even now approached by the media .And talking about him as a wicky-batsman he was no where near world class in his time when Healy,Moin khan,Boucher and later Gilchrist ruled the scene. Please dont project these personalities as celebrities.

All said and done Mongia has played for the country which is itself creditable. yes I too watched the match in which Mongia n Prabhakar played slowly defying all logic. but so did Gavaskar in his innings of 36 not out in the first world cup. and so did many others in some innings. So give the guy his due. He was a good wicket keeper and has served the country.

Someone's mistake can't make ur mistake right. Mongia was never a team-palyer. Hez got very poor attitude. Sachin told Indian Team Mangt and selectors that if Mongia was in playing XI, then we wud not play in that team. Just imagine a humble n non-controversial guy like Sachin had to say this. You can confirm this statement from Sachin anytime.

Hi Reddy where did you read or hear this hogwash about Sachin saying so.Either its your own making or borrowed from some jughead.Sachin has a record of never commenting on any team mate till date, and we have a record of same.

You forgot a great player (WK) from not so great team. Andy Flower, he was one of the best WK batsman

yes andy is far more great cricketer than Gilchrist is... To me Andy was the best there has been during his period
Mongia was involved in the Fixing, as we heard from the Local Businessmen in One of gulf countries that he went to collect his gift from one of the Gulf Countries.
