Irfan is a genious
by Chandrasekar Jayaraj on Feb 01, 2007 12:31 PM

Irfan is a wonderful percious gift given to Indian Cricket... He has contributed a lot and in some ways he may lost his concentration and this happens to all the ppl in the worl. No one are perfect always.. Sending back Irfan frm the Sount African tour is really not a good decision ... Rahul is such a good guy in all the senses shud stop this occurring in future.. A small encouraging can bring him backk He is such a Best allrounder for Indian Team ... We do no need to worry about the middle order if he is there .. He is capable to bat at any place in the team irrespective of the pitch .... He made wonders with ball and is still to make .. Only thing is he has watch all his previous success to bring him back .. we dont want to miss such a Hero ...

Dropping was justified

Mongia was never ever a good batsman. Today's Wicket Keepers perform well with bat also. Take the examples of Australian/Srilankan Wicket keepers. Please dont treat Indian Cricket Team as a Company which provides Permanent Job for everybody who joins. Winning is important; do not try to work out sentiments!

I am sorry you have mentioned about Australian and srilankan wicket keepers ! what about our long haired Jharkhand hero,he is a good stoke make but as far as keeping is concerned I feel Dravid is much much better than our charlie. Dhoni is a bubble which will burst during this world cup with runs flowing from his left and right as our friend cannot do wicket keeping for nuts even.

Hansie Croneje was bold enough to admit it......... but the same kind of emotion can not be expected from people like you, Prabhakar, Azhar and Jadeja. Your best mate Manoj Prabhakar made Kapil Paji cry in the BBC interview.
Means.......How can one insult the only World Cup winning Indian Captain......... People like u should never come in the memory of the whole cricket loving community.
And please Mr. Mongia, in India "PROOF" isnt everything bcoz almost all celebrity criminals are still free.

Hansie Cronje was a gentleman, who admitted the mistake, for that he was severely punished although he lead the team to very good victories.

Yes, Hansie Cronje, my one-time favourite was a great player, great captain. He built the SA team into a formidable side, with Jonty Rhodes and others. It was extremely unfortunate that he got involved in this match-fixing stuff: but I respect him for showing the courage to admit what he had done, knowing that it would land him into disgrace and hate.

I really feel sad about his death.

The Great Irfan Pathan
by Jamal Mohamed on Feb 01, 2007 11:41 AM  | Hide replies

I was too sad when he was returning from South african tour. It is not good to send him back to home. They must keep him till end of the tour but without play. I do not know why the selectors done the bad thing. It is very bad example. He has contrivbuted a lot for indian cricket like Mr. Mohamed Kaif when they palyed with Pakintan 4 years back.I am really too sad to hear his return. From now on i hope the indian cricket team selectors must review (any one) full back ground and past performance and encourage them to play well. Let mt tell Whnat is the role of Mr. Chappel. It is his duty to improve the playing method depends upon the situation. I am sure indian cricket team is wasting money to keep chappel. I also urge Mr. Rahul to not to repeat such decision (sending in the middle of tour) in the future. I know Mr. Rahul is one of the best cricker player in India and he knows irfan phatan's past contributions. May hope Mr. Pathan will be back in good form and play weel in coming World Cup. If irfan pathan absence in world cup means indian cricket is going to be played a nasty game.

Well, Jamal, what is the point in keeping him in the team if he doesnt get to play? Isnt it better that he plays ranji to get match fitness? Pathan had gone from a bowler who could bat a bit to a batsman who could bowl a bit. He bowled well earlier, but his recent form was wretched. It was a good idea to send him to play ranji. Even there, he struggled to get wickets, which shows how bad he has become. Maybe we were expecting too much out of him, comparing him with Akram. Maybe more like Abdul Razzaq. Lets see how things go... Sehwag got sent back at the end of the tour, so I guess the selectors are resonably consistent. I have a feeling Kaif may have a hard time getting back. Basically, if Pathan is fit, India will play 5 bowlers and then the 5 batsmen pick themselves. The only iffy spot is the opener (Sehwag? Uttappa?).

Hi Maximus,
I think Pathan should have not been on the trip to South Africa. He was anyways low on morale aginst the West Indies. a bowler is rated good if he performs well for a minimum of 50 Test matches, 10-15-20 matches is no measuring tool. Pathan should have not been tagged as an all rounder. Even in yesterday's match, Pathan was struggling at 120-125kmph!!!! Pathan should play more first class matches and come back should be made to be a tough process. Only that way we will see a stronger and a more defiant Irfan Pathan.

What has happened to Indian Cricket fans.....
by arindam majumdar on Feb 01, 2007 11:24 AM

I have read the messages in this section and its realy sad that people have forgot the contributions of the past players.I think rediff should monitor the messages before posting them on the site and all these people who don't even know the C of cricket should not be allowed to post crap messages.
In the end i would like to sum up that Nayan Mongia was a great cricketer and his contribution will always be valued in Indian cricket.

Shocking Decision
by arpit hathi on Feb 01, 2007 11:15 AM  | Hide replies

I Think it was a Shocking Decision when we heard that Nayan Mongia was not in the Playing Eleven in the third Test Against Australia.I think its the False System of the Selection Pannel which has ruined the Career of Crickters like Nayan Mongia, vinod Kambli,Pravin Amre,Reetinder Singh Sodhi,Laxmi Ratan Shukla and many others.

I was shocked only with Pravin Amre and the rest were all craps. Mogia was a good keeper though

mongia was always a right hand of azharuddin. azhar was a fool actually. i suspect mongia was the real culprit. he was a match fixer. i can not forget a match in which prabhakar and he was playing. they need about 6 to 7 run per over. but they even not tried to smash the ball. they did not got out either so any other batsman can come and play big shots. it was the time mr. mongia no confusion was left in my mind that you are a fixer. shame on you.

Nayan Mongia - The country will always remember you.
by somnath bagchi on Feb 01, 2007 10:56 AM  | Hide replies

Your contribution to Indian Cricket will always be fondly remembered by the cricket lovers all over the world.Never get bothered by the decision of the highly political selectors and a bunch of self seekers cricket administrators in India. They have always misused their authority and abused their power. We know from our heart that they had to find an excuse to drop you from the Indian team to find a person of their choice by any means. You played for the country and loved the game. The game cricket is indebted to you and the game lovers as well. They have added your name in the long list of sufferers in Indian Cricket who had met severe injustice in the hands of those who have never played cricket in their lives but became cricket administrators. Please build up a new generation of players with your skills and experience who will take on this system.Wish you all the best.

Mongia was a good wicket keeper but not a good batsman. His batting performance was very poor when he was dropped. At that time India needed a wicket keeper batsman. There was a need of experiemnt at that time. Bye dropping him from the team, selectors gave a chance to others and whose output is Mahendra Sing Dhoni and karthik. So the dicision of dropping was justified

I do not agree with you. Karthik and Dhoni came much later it was a below average player Deep dasgupta and a poor wk in parthiv patel who got a chance to play. Compared to them Mogia was miles ahead as a WK and a reasonably good bat. The selectors made a mess of Parthiv Patel by drafting him too early without honing his WK skills, he is a good bat. Luckily for India we got Dhoni hope he carries on for many more years but he has to improve his keeping a lot.

You are wrong it was Saba Karim who initially got the chance but was injured while keeping. Then it was DD. Finally it things zeroed on one of the India's great player Rahul Dravid.
