by Fact on Aug 14, 2007 07:29 PM  | Hide replies

Look at fact
You will find, ind wins only when they chance.
1)      if opponent poor
2)      if opponent suffering injuries (This series)
3)       if opponent does not have key players
4)      If condition support( like first and second test rain help Ind to win this series)
5)      Etc etc

by Ifear paceman on Aug 14, 2007 07:01 PM

yes if we remove those insignificant series then
as captain saurav wins are 4 out of 21
and Rahul as captain 4 out of 15.

instead of enjoying tussle between bat and ball these guys want Saurav as captain. Many take different id's and post those hate Rahul messages which I dislike. God knows when they will start enjoying game. Since Saurav was dropped for his long bad form ,they have spoiled joy of cricket with this false prapoganda. They have spoiled their own joy as well as other cricket fans.

Overseas Win
by on Aug 14, 2007 06:58 PM  | Hide replies

To win overseas consistently, you need good fast / swing bowlers bowling at 140 km/hr and above. It is no coincidence that India's overseas record has improved with the emergence of good fast bowlers far from the days when Gavaskar and Solker use to open the bowling. It is no secret that bowlers win matches. To win overseas more regularly we need a team of fast bowlers bowling at consistent line and length with speed.

Yes. GAvaskar had bowled before India Had Ghavri and Great Kapildev. He used to bowl so as the bowl looses shine early. I remember Kirmani and many others bowling in mandatory overs in apprent drawn test matches.

Hey Mr. Fooking Doodle... Gavaskar has DEFINITELY opened the bowling for India... when we had the quartet of spinners (Chandrashekhar, Bedi, Prasanna, Venkat)... he used to open the bowling... defy you to prove me wrong...

Win Overseas
by on Aug 14, 2007 06:52 PM

To win overseas you need good fast bowlers. It is no coincidence that india's overseas record has improved with the emergence of good fast bowlers in India. We need to develop and nurture more fast bowlers / Swing bowlers to win overseas consistently. Bowlers bowling good line and length at speeds exceeding 140 km/ph are likely to get wickets overseas. It is no secret that bowlers win matches.

Great feeling..might have lost odd battle, but WAR is won!
by Nishant T on Aug 14, 2007 06:46 PM  | Hide replies

The England-India, 07 series will be always remembered and will stay amongst the debate of Cricket Pandits and Media Gurus, for its variety and contraversy from every wicket to wicket and Test to Test. It has kept everyone guessing and kept every Pandit's prediction wrong.
Well the last guess on many Indian's mind was Dravid would put Enland to bat again, and in all correctness he did not, first of all it made probably the Test on 4th day more thrilling, and gave India assurance of the series win. Every sport and Cricket mainly is game of gambling. Rahul did not want to gamble with his bowlers who had already worked hard in both bowling and batting. His main bowler had spent more time on the field than anyone and played like the top batsman at the age of 36-3/4. I do not think Captaincy of Dravid's level would overask his bowlers to toil further where pitch was batting Paradize for the most and likely to be turining on the last day. With these conditions, trying to win the Test, one could be, as they say in England "Penni wise but Pound foolish" or in USA, go after the big fish - series win, and why gamble this rare series win for just one more Test win??

Lack of Confidence
by Samia Baig on Aug 14, 2007 06:28 PM  | Hide replies

Dravid's 'safety first' approach betrays a lack of self-confidence in his team's abilities. He could have gone for the jugular and won 2-0. Similarly he could have won the series in WI 3-0 or at least 2-0 with more aggressive approach. I hope this approach would show him and Indians that they do not have to pinch themselves to believe that they have actually won matches abroad. But I do not expect the Indian DNA to change. Hope Indian's never win the first test of the series abroad... for the remaining ones would be rendered uninteresting by the stonewallers of the team

Samia, you know! in India, 99.99% are Cricket experts and others are playing. India made 664 in 1st inning and key bowker played almost 4.5 hours (Kumble!, England had pump almost 350 in first Inn. Then it is not justified that to follow-on England. Follow-on should not be tamptation and its Captain, who responsible and answarable, he had done! Lets, enjoy series win and pls don't say its fluke !

We could have won 3-0 in West Indies? Are you talking about some parallel universe thingie?

I am sick of you ppl spewing vitriol on Dravid. You are the same armchair critics he referred to. My submission is simple, if you were leading a team known to mess up in the 4th innings, your best bowler was carrying a thigh injury AND you had never won a series in England for "21" years .. wtf would you have done?

Next time India goes to England and is in a similar position, maybe that captain will enforce the follow on. Atleast, he won't be carrying a 21 year old burden!

Learn to appreciate the game for what it is. We are lucky to have the 4 galacticos - Tendulkar, Ganguly, Kumble and Dravid - playing so well as a team. After the Aus series, we may never get to see them together again.

Yes! Our team has the worst chokers in cricket. So had England got a lead of even 100 we would have lost the match and series 1-1 draw. What confidence one can have when in WI India could not even score 120 odd runs. Dravid took the right decision

Dravid is the best Indian captain ever!!!
by radio mirchi on Aug 14, 2007 06:17 PM  | Hide replies

1. Gangu won useless series like Bangla and Zimbabwe. But Dravid won vs England(no 2)and West Indies. Even in Pak series Dravid captained 2 out of 3 matches. So it is more like Dravid won this series.
2. Dravid has captained only 17 matches vs Gangu 28
3. Dravid won more matches than lost whereas Gangu have lost more than won
4. Dravid has lost less percent of matches vs Gangu
5. Dravid still has time to win more matches
SO DRAVID IS BETTER CAPTAIN THAN GANGULY.

Look at their batting records as well. Rahul bats well when someone else is the captain. Now Saurav is batting well because the pressure of captaincy is not there. Does it also not mean, that - all things remaining the same - Dravid is a better captain than Saurav, because Saurav as a batting under Rahul is a better proposition than Rahul batting under Saurav? Anyway ... I have just added some more meaninglessness to he debate by adding my own meaningless point.

Hey Sanjeev. To be frank I am also a gr8 fan of Ganguly and Sachin. But I am sick of people demeaning a gr8 person like Dravid. There is hundreds of messages from people describing Dravid as worst captain, etc and discussing only about 3rd test and blaming him without even bothering to acknowledging the gr8 series win after 21 years whereas all the statistics points to the fact that Dravid is the greatest captain ever

ganguly won matches as he had very great fighter, dravid, under him. just check dravid's batting average in india's overseas wins under ganguly's captaincy..it is over 90. And dravid's team has no such dependable player..

Sir, There is no denying that he has won the series after 21 years, but we could have won it 2-0. That's where people are not happy about it. And here people are comparing Ganguly with Dravid. To be frank. they are totally different Captains and can't be compared. Ganguly was more gutsy and risk taking captain. Whereas Dravid always wants to play safe. The Bowlers Ganguly had were not as Good as the current bunch of bowlers. Ganguly didn't had a lot to choose from. But Dravid is lucky to have a great seam attack.

So ganguly is much better captain. I hope even you will agree to it.

Well Ganguly had much young, hungry budding cricketers to play. Naturally everyone contributed to game. I dont think it was ganguly's win as captain but rather a team performance contributed by hungry cricketers who were on the verge of proving themselves.

I would shy away from comparing the two.. All I know I am happy for Dravid and our team. He is a wise leader who became captain only by his contribution and skills. As ppl in this comment post rightly said, majority of ppl demeaning are strong Ganguly fans OR some irate fans whose player has not been selected under dravid (like harbhajan, kaif etc). So leave those morons aside and lets celebrate!! Well done team india..well done Dravid!
