Another for the records - this may be the oldest team to win a series.

I hope ICL comes into being. Then at least the BCCI and the advertisers will realise there are other cricketers waiting for a chance.

Why don't we think of the 2011 world cup and bring in youngsters?

At this rate, our over-aged team members will retire only in 2010 and leave inexperienced newcomers to face good teams like the Aussies.

Why are we dropping catches? Why are we not diving to stop the ball? (Even when they dive, the ball goes past them.) Why are our top order batsmen reluctant to run quick singles? Because of their age. A picture of Dravid diving to stop a ball would be a collectors item.

Even after crossing the 500wicket mark, Kumble cannot stop no-balling. I wonder if our statisticians have checked who has the maximum number of no-balls per innings?

Why do our bowlers, without exception, bowl on the leg-side when the field is on the off-side?

Just because we are going to win this series, these questions should not be shoved under the mat and not be analysed or corrected.

You have a valid point. But there are positives from this series.

Even though the current team with aged ones like Sachin, Kumble, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman has done quite well in this series in England, the away series towards end of this year against Aussies would be an acid test for the entire team, young and old.

However, this confidence-building series win and good form from guys like Zaheer, Jaffer, Karthick, and RP Singh give us some hope.

At least we are winning test matches overseas - won the series 1-0 in West Indies (after 1971), lost 1-2 in South Africa (played well in 2 of the 3 teats), won in Bangladesh (that was easy), and about to win series in England (after 1986). This is not a bad record at all.

Let's give credit where it's due no matter whether the player is 35/36, or 25/26, or 21/22.

Cheers

We have to factor in many things.First the weather.Forecast is that there maybe some showers. So let us assume one session will be lost on Sunday/Monday.Let us say that the lead will be 300 plus.England gets five sessions to bat this out.But England gets a 4th day pitch which is not too bad still. The bowling was good in the first innings, but England also was rash.So how does Dravid go.I think he shd bat one session plus and have a go at England in 4 plus sessions less rain.No risk against winning the series shd be the outlook.Winning this test or draw shd be the only results possible.England batting on follow on opens up the third possibility.

There are maximum of 180 overs possible in the next 2 days. Assume that last England pair consumes 8 overs in the 1st innings, plus 2 overs for changeover. Then India should bat for 45-50 overs and look to score around 190-200 runs leaving England to score around 500 runs in 4th innings in about 120 overs.

Ball has already started turning, pace bowlers will be fresh 4th day morning. There's no reason not to impose follow on.cpwXn

Nice job under pressure
by on Aug 12, 2007 07:43 AM

We all thinking the same thing. Indian team always performunder pressure. The pressure that has been put by BCCI and the Companies for which these cricketers advertise. One of my friend after Indian team's performance said that "koi badi baat nahin hai, danda aataa hai to kaam karna padata hai". I have no different opinion.

Wah bhai wah!!!!
Do scores of 34, 40, 79, 2 n.o & 37 prove that Ganguly has not contributed? Out of this twice he was wrongfully given out.
You are not fit for cricket discussions.

Will somebody in the stands volunteer to escort Umpire Ian Howell to the stumps? Poor fellow is totally blind and needs help to reach to the stumps and come back.

India Should Bat Again
by Hemal Patel on Aug 12, 2007 05:20 AM  | Hide replies

I think India should bat again, and score some runs. It will give our bowlers some rest and it will force england to play on 5th day pitch which will offer more assitance to bowlers. In case they bat again and give us 150 runs on 5th day wicket we can be unders some pressure.

If you are going to be scared to score 150 in the 4th innings. then we will never be able to win the match. No team will be feared while playing. If we play and waste time tomorrow then we are giving less time for England and our Indian bowlers which will not help us to get all Indian wickets. We should think of giving as much time as possible to England and bowl them out as soon as possible. Our Aim should be to bowl them out again in less than 300 runs.

I agree to your point that 150 runs should not be feared of however England will have very low moral if they have to score 550 to win, instead of getting us out under 150 on last day. If this match is a draw we still win the series but if we loose this match it will be 1-1 so its best to first secure the series and then go after a win

I am sure munaf even with 50% fit will be good option instead of sreesanth. Did you see his bowling. If he is going to bowl this way in one dayers as well then we will have to ask dravid and karthick to replace his bowling.

India should bat tomorrow again, score 250 runs in 50 overs and put England under pressue. I think If India makes England follow on there's a chance for a draw as our bowlers will be so tired of bowling more overs.
So make the 330 lead in first innings to 580 overall. Allow Enland to play 120 overs at least. As the ground offers spin n bounce India should be able to pull it off.

This is totally unfair. Ganguly has been quite unlucky in being given out. He has behaved and played like a true team member. Ditto for Sachin. These guys should be feted for their dedication and desire to see India win. Let us encourage them and stop being parochial. For once I have seen the team play like an INDIAN tem, happy for each ones success and the team's success.

I also think it is churlish and bad to blame Ganguly now. After his exile,he has become a more determined and dependable batsman. He has contributed well in this series consistently. He has also bowled well.He has a big share of bad decisions against him.In fact the vibes between Dravid and Ganguly on field are good.So why are we raising a debate?

i agree with u. The one and only waste candidate in this indian team, he has come to England to help England's cause and play a spoiling influence on Dravid due to jealousy of remaining the most successful captain of india,,,totally one misplacement in indian line up..
