Sourav,VVS,Kumble,Zaheer should be in..
by Taufiq on Oct 31, 2006 09:30 PM

Hi All,

BCCI and selection committee should respect and give places in the Indian team for the senior players like Saurav,VVS,Kumble,Zaheer despite of the political issues. Coach (Chappel) should not be the decision maker. India team needs experienced players. It is very unfair that india could win if only Dravid plays well. Sachin should understand his responsibilities and play well in crucial matches against teams like Aus, WI. It is not good that scoring centuries in local challenger series and matches between the teams. If he is a true master batsman, he should play well against teams like Aus,WI,SA,NZ under pressure situations. He have'nt played well against Aussies after Azhar's captaincies. Moreover he is struggling with Aussies bowling especially against McGrath, Bret Lee , even for the new comer Mitchel Johnson. Sachin should either play well or leave his place to others like Gautam Gambir/Wassim Jaffer/Robin Uthappa.

The selection committe has done a big mistake in their Mini world cup team selection. They should be included Zaheer Khan, Kumble, VVS , Balaji and Saurav.
Last but not the least, india shud play with confident and national spirit.

Class in indian cricket
by raja bhai on Oct 31, 2006 12:33 AM

Mr. Shastri, I agree that India needs class, but let me make it clear as long as there is zonal system in selection process there is no way you can find the class in all the 11 or 16 selected players. However, selection is done on a biased manner I understand that Ganguly is not in good form to be selected than what about Virendar Sehwagh, Raina etc Raina can be a good fielder but he is still young needs more maturity let him me play the domestic cricket first get some experience and than get into the higher level. Laxmam may be lethargic but he is a better batsman. Why dual policy in selection be indian and select the best indians without any favours even if all the 16 players are from one state, don\\\'t forget we are representing our country.

India's overall unprofessional approach as root of all troubles, which have just begun to show up!
by Samar Datta on Oct 31, 2006 12:12 AM

This unprofessional approach started with the country's super-costly coach uttering unprofessional stuff to an existing captain during a game and apparently the-then captain taking the advice in an unprofessional manner! The current BCCI management seems to have further articulated the game of unprofessionalism. Mr. Shastri, please do a full-fledged post-mortem of the whole body and not merely its selected parts. Why were all Champions trophy venues chosen from westen and northern India, leaving out vast parts of the rest of the country? Why were poor quality pitches provided to take the game and the country into further disrepute? Why could'nt a single new stable player be created, rather we lost several coming up? What's net value created by this coach? Why couldn't Dravid assert himself before the coach, the selectors and in the field? If Kaifs, Rainas, Pathans etc. could be given enough room till they could produce one miracle one day, why the same couldn't be done to Kumble, Nehra, Balaji, Laxman and Ganguly? Why ca'nt Tendulkar, like Lara, come back at this juncture? Why isn't BCCI being taken over by professional cricketers? Who are making cricket nearly Western India game?

Reaction at the match against Australia is knee jerk. After there was no big surprise in India losing to the latter. Yes, lossing to West Indies was attrocious and it was indeed a combination of errors, including unintelligent captaincy. Perhaps if some concrete criticism had come at that time, India would have played with a vengeance and given a better fight.

Sehwag slipped for a split second from his eternal vigilence and paid the price for that. Otherwise he played positively and there should be no unwarranted criticism aganst him.

Suresh Raina was callous, so too was Dinesh Mongia. Tendulkar should honourably retire and give way to some up and coming young batsmen. He cannot get back to his peak and harder he tries quicker he perishes. While bowling was horrible there was no room for praise on fielding.

TEAM INDIA REQUIRES GANGULY BACK
by Ratan on Oct 30, 2006 11:15 PM

If Jaysauriya can come back, Mgrath can come back forget politics and bring Ganguly back for 2 reasons you are struggling for a opening pair the best India has produced was Sourav and Sachin.
See how these players like Yuvraj, Kaif Sehwag Harbhajan perform when he is back in the team he has the fire the passion to build a team our captain is too docile to be a leader but only a exceptional player Mr dependable for batting not for captaincy

Mr. Ravi Shastry is right when he says that there is no shame in accepting you were wrong and hence you have the guts to admit and correct the situation before the ship tends to sink.

But no matter which team you have , it's the Attitude that finally wins you the day. ATTITUDE.

Let's see what it means.

Glen Mcgrath would hate to bowl a loose ball, half volley, a no ball or a wide. He would strive EACH and EVERY ball to pitch it where he wants to and would strive harder the next ball. That's ATTITUDE.

Gilchrist would give his 100%, behind the stumps, in front of it each and every time. There is nothing like 'Iam better than average. IT has to be the best every time. That's again ATTITUDE.

No Aussie would throw his wicket away. He would hate to do that. You have to EARN his wicket.

Whether in running between the wickets or throwing oneself to stop or running behind the ball, there's no HALF HEARTED Attempt. That's again is ATTITUDE.

If you don't want to lose, if you hate to lose, you will do everything the right way, with passion and a lot more.

That's the difference between the two sides.

Esarul Haque
Sachins attitude
by Esarul Haque on Oct 30, 2006 09:40 PM

Now it is crystal clear that Sachin tendulkar looks very ordinary in crucial matches inspite of being one of the greatest batesmen of the game. The reason may be perhaps because of his commitment to the game in the recent time. He doesn't bat with resposiblity these days. He bats well only in his comeback maches. The reason is obvious.I belive if he wants to score; no bowler can get him out!Only he can get himself out or his days are over..He had been very successful in earlier stage of his career giving number of good performances under Azruddin's captainships. So now he needs to change his attitude towards the aproach to the game.Otherwise the selectors got to take some hard decision.

No Shame
by Kausik on Oct 30, 2006 09:23 PM

Yes Mr Sashtri. There is no Shame. As there was no shame when you were the part the tie test against the same opponent. "Dancing down the track with aggression but only to block the ball for no runs" against Mathues.
