Is BCCI softening towards Azhar?
by Faisal Siddiqui on Oct 19, 2006 08:09 PM

I am of the opinion that our board is harsher that than others when it comes to dealing with erring players.
Both Azhar and Ajay Jadeja were given a harsh deal. While agreeing to their crimefaults, we also need to look at the treatment Shane Warne got or Hershelle Gibbs got from their board. They are guilty of the very same crimes...yet you can see them donning their country's colors on the field even after unabashedly admitting to taking cash for underperforming or throwing away matches or disclosing pitch information.

Hum aah bhi karte hain to ho jaate hain badnaam.
Woh Khoon bhi kardein to charcha nahin hota.

Azhar should be forgiven .After all he is a God fearing Mussalman, he could not have done anything wrong.
If in Azhar's place , it had been some player like Kapil or Gavaskar...well then.. the rules change.
How can we forgive a criminal act? The player brought disgrace to the team and the country.....all such things can be written and argued.

But in case of Azhar.... he should be forgiven indeed.

I feel azhar is one of the worlds greatest cricket player. After all he is a human being.
He suffered a lot by not allowing him to play all these yrs.Its high time we should allow him to coach the younger generation. He has wealth of information regarding cricket which he can pass on to the younger generation.
Thanks BCCI for including him in the Captians function list.

Is match-fixing very big sin ?
by Nainar on Oct 19, 2006 10:17 AM

Players who are representing their country ought to remember that they are playing for the pride of their nation.
If they take it for granted, then they dont deserve to represent their nation in international level.
It is still a debatable topic - whether or not to forgive Azhar.
Some say that Azhar has been punished enough already?
If it is true, then make a rule that "players will be banned from any form of the game, if found guilty of fixing the match".
for murder the punishment is hanging the accused
and
for theft the punishment is imprisonment
and
for match fixing make it as five year ban from the game and remove all of his records.
Let Azhar be the example for other sportsmen - how a sportsmen should not be.

Let ICC make this as rule (five year ban from the game and remove all of his records), in safe guarding the game's respect.

AZHAR

I think BCCI should not listen to ICC on Azhar issue. Everyone knows that ICC has always taken different stance against asian players. As far as Azhar is concerned he has had enough punishment and should be given the respect he deservs. After all he was India's most successful captpain before Ganguly. I hope that BCCI will take the right decision and will simply ignore comments made by ICC. ICC should introspect and see what action it/respective cricket boards have taken on players who found guilty in match fixing.

Azhar the artist

I have been a fan of Azhar from the outset of his career.
The finesse and the sheer amount of brilliance needed to pull off shots that he did with amazing regularity were something to be awed at. One commentator said that "Azhar takes cricket to the level of poetry". That does not meean that he didn't have his share of faults. He used to get out trying to play shots which were absolutly suicidal, thus he was constantly a source of anxiety for his fans.

Azhar's flicks are very popular with the audience at large but if someone takes the pain to go through his batting style during the early parts of his carrer then he'll see that Azhar was a master at playing straight drives and cuts as well. Later on he changed his stance which affected his off-side play to a certain extent.

As far as the match fixing scandal is concerned, Azhar's involvement is a matter of pure speculation. As far as I am concerned I will always remember Azhar as the batsman whose batting I enjoyed watching the most.

For thos Who Oppose BCCI Decision
by Raj Sekhar on Oct 18, 2006 10:14 PM

when reading the opinions about Azhar issue. I wanted tell the guyz who opposed bcci decision of inviting him. some guyz are furious as he corrupted the cricket system. Tell me guyz how faithful or sincere are each of us in performing our duties. look back into your lives and see how many have not bribed the traffic guy and paid the challan sincerely. MoreOver Azhar is not being proven guilty yet so his rights or things which he deserve cannot be taken away from him. BCCI is a bigger organization which can think on its own and intelligent enough to take its own decisions.
