Ganguly's refusal to open
by S.Ramaswamy on Jan 14, 2006 07:16 AM

To what extent the news of Ganguli's refusal to open the innings is true is doubtful. If true,it is unbecoming of one who was the captain till not so long ago. On the other hand one should also be fair not to expose him to the risk when he is fighting for his place in the team and trying to re establish himself in the team
The game's very popularity and the BCCI's swollen coffers are the twin reasons for politicians forcing themselves on the game and then unseenly control selection, playing eleven and even the position in which their favorites would play
Mr Sharad Pawar, who could find time to do all these, despite denials to the contrary, could have utilised the opportunity of his meeting the President of Pakistan,to request him to issue instructions to the Pakistan team to allow Ganguli to score a century so that Ganguli is facilitated to cement his place in the team.In fact the BCCI's clout with the ICC could have been used to insruct the umpires not to give Ganguli out come what may. This will also help in the Left parties who rule Ganguli's state to continue to support the Central Govt and his followers not hitting the streets!

And I believe you are there?
by Dave on Jan 14, 2006 06:59 AM

How do you write this kind of nonsense and divide the Indian crickets enthusisats into 2 polarized groups? Were you there listening to their conversation? You should be ashamed about your report speculating negative stuff to sell your site.

WTH?
by Tim on Jan 14, 2006 06:41 AM

This article is the pits.

The title speculates about whethere Ganguly refused to open.

The body says that he did indeed. I bet that's a lie.

I know that Rediff is negative on Ganguly but please, get a grip. Calcutta newspapers are reporting that while Ganguly was not thrilled about opening, he agreed to do so anyway.

Journalism Standards
by Pavan Vaidyanathan on Jan 14, 2006 05:52 AM

Dear Rediff,

What sort of journalism standards are you following/condoning? May we see a copy, please?

How can you publish such an article without telling us anything about how you came about your information? Did your journalist (who is also unnamed) see/hear this happen [him/her]self? Did somebody who witness this happen tell your journalist? Or did somebody in your office, having nothing better to do, just dream this all up? At least, tell us his/her name. If your argument is that this is a UNI report and not a rediff report, that is not acceptable either because you are ultimately responsible for what you publish on your website. If UNI publishes trash, there is no reason for you to do the same.

Pavan

Mind boggling!!
by shayon on Jan 14, 2006 01:35 AM

i would really like to know where all this information is sourced from. i think its pretty much a figment of someones imagination. its quite silly to think that matters such as batting order are left to be discussed minutes before the toss. if it is true then it does not show only ganguly in poor light but also the team management who failed to firstly make up their minds till the last minute and secondly failed to convey to the respective players their batting positions.

Did Ganguly refuse to open?
by Ani on Jan 14, 2006 01:33 AM

I want to ask this reporter what proof he/she has that the reporter claims Ganguly was refusing to open and the conversation was about that.
Greg Chappell said they were discussing about cricketing issues and strategies. No one ever said that he was refusing to open and if the reporter has a source then it shud be mentioned in the article. Stop misleading the public who reads ur columns!
