Ganguly should retire
by R. N. Bose on Jan 14, 2006 11:32 AM

A general cannot pretend to be a soldier. A tiger cannot pretend and pass off as a mouse. But that's what Ganguly thinks he can pull off. What has he got yet to prove? As a cricketer he has achieved it all-more than other Indian captains have achieved. I cannot fathom what he is hanging in there for, to prove what! Why a person of his (past) track record go around begging to all and sundry asking to play 'whatever the position, whatever the role assigned, whoever the captain'!

The odds are not in his favour. There is a new regime in control. Just look at his nuisance value, and the distraction to all concerned. Doesn't he have any sense of pride in himelf? When the powers that be do not want him around, when he has clearly been (and has to be) thrust on the team India management, why should he still hang around for crumbs? His role in team India is over. It is time he retired gracefully instead of being humiliated any further. For the life of me I cannot understand why he can't decide to move on in life!

GANGULY'S REFUSAL TO OPEN
by v.r.kalyana krishnan on Jan 14, 2006 11:01 AM

Indian team selection has become a mockery. It is time the team (16 members) as well as the playing XI are selected on merit and not on the dictat of Board officials / politicians etc. (in the interest of the country). It is clear Ganguly is in the team only based on history and not on his present form and will be a bad influence in the dressing room.

India has good bench strength now. Whoever is not performing and not cooperating with the team stratagies will obiviously sit out. It doesent matter how big he is... even tendulkar is not spared...

Ganguly is playing bad tricks in the team. He is again trying to play devide and rule. But now dalmiya is not there. Kick him out of the team for once and for all. There are other most talented players deserve his spot in the team.

Did Ganguly refuse to open
by BHARAT SATISH TALWAR on Jan 14, 2006 10:41 AM

If this is as we hae read. I think Ganguly should packed back to India. It is rediculour. He is further reflecting his bad character in before the public. In this way I think in adition to the defeat we would be facing at the hands of Pakistan the so called good image of India team with the pakistan will be completely lost and we would return to India as a laughig stock.
It is really sad.

irresponsible journalism
by arijit on Jan 14, 2006 10:12 AM

am shocked to find rediff indulge in such irresponsible journalism. 'did ganguly refuse to open ?' and 'chappel denies team rift' - these 2 reports are self-contradicting. may i ask where from did the writer of the former piece get 'confirmed news' that ganguly had refused to open (while most reports on newspapers & tv channels sugest exactly the opposite) ??? has rediff done away with the post of an editor ? how do such articles even get green signal for putting up on net ??? rediff team, stop giving wings to your imagination & please wake up ! if possible, please publish some authentic news.

Ganguly refused to open

for quite long ganguly has been a hot topic of issue. Thou he has been a most highly successful indian captain the arrogance shown by him of lately has only diminished his success. So if he really thinks good of the country and cricket as a whole its high time he steps down of his own and gives others a chance rather than make them sacrificial lambs for his selfish needs. His greatness now lies in his opting to play or to step down. The true ganguly will be seen by Indians as well as the whole sports world.
