Indian Cricket is moving on . Which way we cannot say. But sure , Team selection must be taken seriously now. Captain, Coach and the selectors must be on the same line. Previously also Indian thinktank has done its job without any thinking. I will point out some flaws in this series: If you are thinking of taking Indian team to future, give new comers chance but don't make things which are going fine to stumble. Here are my points-
a) Ganguly could have been given more chance in opening slot in tests and one-dayers. Dravid in no way planning to become an opener, I guess. They must have given chance to Wasim Jaffer and Gautam Gambhir to open in atleast one match.
b) Indian bowling is looking like it has lost its edge. Time to look for new bowlers maybe likes of Nehra and Balaji still have a chance as Zaheer and Pathan look just another bowler in pitches which have nothing to offer to bowlers. Murali Karthik is a waste to bet on. Better we could have tried Chawla.Kumble is not a good fielder but is lot more better a bowler than this Karthik. c) Senior batsmen should also be dropped for a match or two for their irresponsible innings.
The article is fully loaded with truths.I am sure all the true follwers of the game in India will be at one with what ever have been written in the article. But one question which is haunting in every body's mind has not been touched. Most of the points indicated in the article pertains to the coaching. What the coach is doing there? Is he not supposed to suggest corrective and the remedial actions for these deficiencies and mistakes?Perhaps he is more busy in involving himself in non criketing activities like questioning Shoib's action, writing e mails etc.
Its the dumbest column i have seen in a long time, and it set me off laughing. India lose one test match, and we have Mr. Arvind Lavakare pointing fingers at almost each and everyone in the Indian Team.
Let me ask Mr.Arvind Lavakare some questions before he says Kumble is not a quality player overseas.
How many tests or series have the other spinners u have mentioned say Bishen Bedi or Prasanna won for india overseas? They also excelled in Indian conditions. Go check ur facts and then write something.
It really is very stupid on ur part to demean kumble.
And u say Sachin and Laxman are not worth now. U must be the dumbest fellow on this planet, or u dont know abcd about cricket. They both on any day, can walk into any team as a test member. Even australia would lay their red carpet for these two.
I would like to conclude saying, Arvind Lavakare doesnt have any cricket sense. atleast u provided me with some good laugther.
We have over 1 billion experts offering us advices for free and criticism for the sake of criticizing. How can we blame the team when it does badly and praise our fortunes when we win handsomely? For God Sake..INDIA JUST LOST THE SERIES DUE TO ONE BAD INNINGS. The best thing that I find is that we went down fighting and not giving up. All batsmen played their shots and got out rather than waiting to be knocked over. Hats off to the Paki's they played a better game, but Indians could have easily come on top if our bowling had that extra sting. Sure, Pathan seems to be more worried bout his batting than his swing, which is expected from him coz Greg being an Australian legend himself surely would love to bring more all-rounders or utility players to the game coz thats the way Australian's play their game and that is why they are so good at it. Im sure we will seem more all-rounders coming up in our team before the next world cup. I have a feeling that our bowling would look more promising if we have a specialist bowling coach for spin as well as for seam bowling. This will re-invent our bowling attack to have that punch which it is lacking right now.
To me, Tendulkar going down on his knees, was simply the follow through of his reflex of trying to keep the ball out of his stumps, that suddenly went lower than his expectations. I dont know how some people in the media and public took it as a symbolic representation of him, giving in to the pace of an attack, which he is very much capable of tearing apart any day (world cup 2003: he was very young, critics may argue). I request all such \"Highly Knowledgable\" Cricket experts to refrain from commenting in such a manner that would hurt the sentiments of those who still treat Sachin as symbol of Indian Cricket..!!
I beleave the reason behind all these debacles can be directed to a single person Greg Chappel. He with the help a spineless captain & a native chela(Kiran More)conspired & bring us here where we are now.
Before doing anything we were allowed them to remove our most successfull & astute captain so far who has scored 34 international 100's & 15000 international runs.Under his captaincy we won both test & one day series against in Pakistan. We beat Australia in a test match in Australia(with a bit of luck we could have won the series as well),we were runner up in world cup ,we won mini world cup.We beat Steve Waugh's all conquering Australia in India.Let Dravid-Chappell duo repeat 20% of this feat. Then compare Ganguly with Dravid.
I would have agreed with the writer, if he would have given some of positive point of team India. But i think rediff hired this person only to write negative things which is very tough to digest. Please dont give such childish explanation. Next time if you want to write please come with concrete points and logical explanation.
